Pro-life vid of day: Woman allegedly removed from gym for baby bump
by Hans Johnson
Melissa Mantor, 31, claims on HLN’s Nancy Grace that she was asked to change her clothes or leave from the Planet Fitness in Charleston, S.C., where she was working out. Her offense? Her pregnant midriff was exposed.
This particular facility, however, has a policy that prohibits “jeans, boots, men’s string tank tops, or revealing clothing… [and] also prohibits bare midriffs.”
So was she really kicked out because of her baby bump? Your thoughts.

Well I don’t know. I went to a gym while I was pregnant and it had the same policy. So I just wore my husband’s shirts and/or a pregnancy tank and made sure it covered. I think the midriff policy is probably a safety/health thing.
Then again, the gym employee probably could have been nicer. Like hey we have this policy for people’s health and safety, next time you come, could you try to wear longer shirts?
So I don’t know. Personally I think that gym employee was rude cause at a certain point there’s just not much that’s gonna cover that bump, especially when you’re working out and moving.

Okay yeah I was watching the video and she was only 18 weeks. It’s really not that hard to cover that small of a bump. It’s not like she was 30 weeks. I mean come on. If that’s your gym’s policy, wear a shirt that will comply. that’s a really tiny tank top – you don’t *have* to wear a tiny tank top to work out. A normal T-shirt or even a longer tank top would have solved the issue.

I’ve never been to a gym where there was a dress code lol. The gym here is all sport bras and short shorts for the ladies, and just shorts for the dudes half the time.
It doesn’t sound like she was picked on for being pregnant, it sounds like she didn’t follow the dress code.

Maybe its a southern sensibilities thing, DLPL? I thought a gym dress code is/was weird, but she is in SC and I’ve seen it in two gyms in VA. I don’t know. lol

Idk, I’ve only ever been in gyms in Miami and a college city in Oregon, neither of them known for their conservative dressing. Lol.

Lol well that’s true. Ironically idk that there was a dress code at the conservative Christian college my partner went to… But I wouldn’t want to wear only a sportsbra cause it would look awful. I will confess to short shorts though

Doesn’t sound like she was “discriminated against”. Sounds like she didn’t follow the dress code.Did she think she didn’t have to follow the rules- just because she was pregnant , maybe ?
Society seems to be full of people these days that think “Oh, those rules don’t apply to ME!”
*Just from my own personal observation of people*

If it was a unisex gym, then yes, I would have to agree with the owners. Her pants were WAY too low cut. All she needed was a shirt to cover up the low hip line.

I dont think it was because of pregnancy. She didnt follow the dress code.
