Abortion 101: New online abortion course offered by UCSF
Each week’s lectures will incorporate the stories of women who seek abortion in order to better portray abortion significance and rationale.
Other topics will include a brief history of abortion, the clinical aspects of medication and procedural abortions in and after the first trimester, an overview of patient-centered abortion-care, the basics of abortion counseling, the professional obligations of health care practitioners to ensure that women have access to safe abortion care, and the maze of restrictions that make safe abortion care inaccessible to many women.
In addition to video lectures, there will be weekly quizzes, peer assessments, and optional additional content and reading for learners who want to explore the topic further.

By “patient-centered abortion care,” they mean centered on one patient at the expense of the other.
Abortion supporters are desperately trying to “normalize” abortion and to remove any “stigma.”
They imagine that talking about how common abortion is will somehow make it socially acceptable.
But abortion is dark, and only survives in the darkness. Even in places like Russia and China — where abortion is far more common than in our culture — the practice thrives because of a culture of silence coupled with the “free” service of socialized medicine.
This effort to offer a public course that actually TALKS about abortion will backfire on the abortion supporters. Too much light will shine upon it.
The links indicate that 3000 participants have signed up. We can be sure that these are already ardent abortion advocates and ardent pro-lifers. I don’t think this will move the culture at all in favor of more abortions.
The first sentence in the course outline is, “Abortion is a common experience for women around the world.”
Rape is a common experience for women around the world too.
Since we all know the U.S.A is the richest and smartest country, let’s lead the way and work to legalize and make money off of rape too. Let’s start out by repeating over and over that rape should be safe, legal and rare. And then drop the words safe and rare when 1/3 of American woman are sexual slaves.
“WEEK 6: Early Pregnancy Loss and Course Conclusions”
Among the bullet points: “Relationship between early pregnancy loss care and abortion care”
No. Just, no. I get that it’s the same surgical procedure (I had to have a D&C after a miscarriage myself), but that’s just a bit of a slap in the face.
It doesn’t look like you can earn actual college credit for this, though. Just a fancy certificate of completion. So at least there is that.
Hi Kate, how many days after your miscarriage did you have a D and C?
Ah, the maze of restrictions.
That’s good for a chuckle. My mom passed away this summer, and one of my duties as executrix was to deal with outstanding bills. My favorite (heavy sarcasm here): canceling her cable service. Ha. Now THAT”S a maze of restrictions. Five months later and I’m still walking thru the maze.
There OUGHT to be a few hoops to jump through if your heart’s set on killing your own child. My God.
Praxedes, it was 2 weeks after an ultrasound showing my little one had passed, but the doctor had other concerns that led him to believe waiting any longer to miscarry naturally was not a good idea.
Thanks, Kate. Until my own, I didn’t realize that the physical process of a miscarriage could take weeks.
Sorry to hear about your mom, Courtnay.
I’m very sorry for your losses Courtnay, Kate and Praxedes.
I would love to take this class.
The only question is how long would I last until I was expelled.
Whenever my bro’s and I encounter a compelling question we oftentimes will try to qualify it with betting vernacular. In this case, I would set the over/under at 1 week. While I would do my best to temper my views exercising extreme self-control so as to prolong my time in the class, I’m fairly certain my passions would betray me and I’d be out of there sooner than I’d like.
And one thing I’d be sure to share with my classmates, which I’m sure isn’t part of their planned curriculum, is a graphic video of an abortion. That would be my “optional additional content…for learners who want to explore the topic further.”
Then I would wait with eager anticipation for my peer assessment, which would be a real hoot.
Sorry for all of your loses Courtnay Kate n Prax…I lost my husband in 2013.
All my losses were very early, so I never had to have a D & C.
“The first sentence in the course outline is, “Abortion is a common experience for women around the world.” Rape is a common experience for women around the world too.” – so is breathing. And eating. And the desire to not be dictated to by others.
“Let’s start out by repeating over and over that rape should be safe, legal and rare” – why on earth would you want to do that? Seems like odd thinking.
Courtnay–my dad just passed away a little over 2 weeks ago and my mom said trying to take his name off the cable bills was RIDICULOUS. They need an actual copy of the death certificate and all this stuff but when she went to cash in the life insurance and also contact SSA they only needed her to fax a copy. But for Comcast she had to jump through 90 hoops (just short of showing up at their office with my father’s dead body) just to take his name off the bill.
Your comment just made me nod vigorously. Stopping cable service? Super hard. Killing your unborn baby? Super easy.
I’m also sorry for your losses heather Pamela and Sydney M.
Condolences to you all for your losses…
Thanks for your kind words JDC.
Sorry to everyone who has experienced the loss of loved ones here.
I agree with Kate that a D&C is the same surgical procedure for miscarriage and abortion but anyone who doesn’t understand the difference between miscarriage care and abortion “care” obviously needs a little nudge to wake them up from the deep slumber they are in.
Ed H…”whenever my bros???” Look out everyone, Ed and his bros are gonna disrupt class and give you the real truth about abortion. Then he is gonna be really bada#% and fill out the course survey!!!
