Pro-choice author: Pro-lifers “chain pregnant women to beds”
… [I]f you are pregnant and you are even suspected of possibly not wanting your baby you can be arrested and chained up to your hospital bed until you have the baby.
Tennessee has just enacted legislation like that. Texas has got it. A number of them have it. And it’s all right-to-life stuff.
~ Feminist author Margaret Atwood (pictured) explaining why her 1985 novel, The Handmaid’s Tale, has gained popularity, via Newsbusters, November 15

Why is it that the Left will believe any sort of hyperbole against the Right, but think that Islamists promising to institute Sharia law and stone gays to death are just expressing their feelings but don’t really MEAN it?
All they have left is lies.
Speak of the devil. As a Canadian, I find it pretty depressing that The Handmaid’s Tale is considered the pinnacle of Canadian literature. If you want to have some fun though, try asking Ms. Atwood what she thinks of the moon landing.
“As a Canadian, I find it pretty depressing that The Handmaid’s Tale is considered the pinnacle of Canadian literature.”
Yeah, I know what you mean. I read like five pages into the thing and gave up due to boredom. Keep in mind, I knew what it was about going in, but the writing itself was much worse than I expected.
Dear Margaret Atwood,
Please link to ALL of the instances of women being chained to hospital beds. Photos, videos, eyewitness accounts!! We don’t have a moment to waste!!
Let’s get to the bottom of this!! HURRYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY!!
Pro-bort feminists haven’t published a convincing, readable novel since 1985?
Absolutely, Carla. If women are being chained to hospital beds we stupid Americans have a right to know about it.
I wonder what Margaret thinks should be done with parents who express wanting to kill their newborns or toddlers.
Ahhhh….it just wouldn’t feel like Monday without some feminist histrionics.
Is the really the best the feminazis and feministas have to offer?
.
A 30 year old retread?!?!
.
Hillary Clinton, Nanzi Pelozei and Lizzy, ‘Sheenotawunovus’ Warren or Debbie Wazzupman weren’t available?
.
I guess the necromancers were unable to conjure up the ghoulish ghosts of Molly Ivinas, Bella Abzug or Annie ‘wrinkles’ Richards.
.
Where is Naomi Wolf when her presence would be a welcome alternative. At least her pleasant demeanor and girlish figure would be appreciated.
.
At least she is not humorless female homosexual basking in the never existing rays of her own intelligence.
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAAAA
Ok, that’s all I have for this one. Her marbles have clearly exited her mind.
Consider yourself lucky, JDC. We all had to read the whole thing in Grade 12.
This is what they think. This is the picture they conjure up in their (twisted) minds. Women being ‘forced’ to be pregnant –
CHAINED to beds and “forced” to go through pregnancy.
It’s FORTY WEEKS (give or take) out of your life !
Oh, yes -pregnancy is the ULTIMATE torture !
What a terrible, terrible thing ! To have to give of yourself to another human being -for a whole 40 weeks of your life –
the horror!
*Ok….I’m done now…do they sound ridiculous enough ? ;) *
Margaret, why don’t you check on some real facts, such as the gendercide that is rampant in parts of Asia, and growing in frequency in the US and Canada? Maybe some of you authors can use your time for actual real injustices against females. Or how about real live Canadian and American teen girls whose families threaten to or actually do throw them out on the street because the birth control they were encouraged to use isn’t 100% effective in preventing “unwanted” pregnancy? Or do you only care about fictional characters (such as the ones you just made up in the above quote!)??? ???
Pamela, it’s not even “forty weeks… out of your life.”
Women are still living life while pregnant. It’s amazing, I know.
9ek, women like Atwood would rather make up scenarios than deal with the reality.
Don’t forget about El Salvador, where apparently, the government thinks legalizing abortion is the solution to not enforcing the law against statutory rape, letting rapists walk free, and turning pregnant teen girls (the boys suffer no consequence, apparently) out of their homes for getting pregnant.
Abortion solves EVERYTHING. Of course.
“Consider yourself lucky, JDC. We all had to read the whole thing in Grade 12.”
Ouch. One good thing I can say about my education is that none of the books we ever had to read were too bad.
Chaining pregnant women to hospital beds? For 7 or 8 months? Well, I sure hope they have a lot of beds! Also, who takes care of these women while they’re chained?
“… [I]f you are pregnant and you are even suspected of possibly not wanting your baby you can be arrested and chained up to your hospital bed until you have the baby. ”
Because chopping your baby up into lots of pieces and disposing it is so much more humane and freeing!!!
Let’s get this right – instead of “being chained up for the duration of your pregnancy”, and perhaps seeing your child, you’re chained to your child whom you chose to kill. You can deny it all you want, but that’s the reality.
lol chained to beds? lol uh hu. JDC I’m like you.Well I love to read. My favorite is true crime. I’m a speed reader. However if a book is boring I can’t go on..thanks for the heads up. Autobiography books are good as well.
Good grief my grandmother died in 1985. eek. An old book.
She is relying on the stupidity of those reading her stuff.
Gosh. That sounds so familiar……….
Shame. I really admire Margaret Atwood as a professional inspiration. It’s sad that she has to reduce herself to such hyperbolic nonsense.
I’ll just put his here, because hilarity:
