Mouse dung once part of an ancient abortion suppository
The famous Greek doctor Hippocrates, or texts attributed to him, recorded a lot of abortifacients — and, interestingly, his books also reveal that the Greeks had figured out the connection between copper and contraception that we still use today in copper IUDs. But one recipe stands out: It calls for mouse dung, honey, Egyptian salt, wild colocynth, and resin to be made into a suppository and put into the uterus.
Septic abortion strikes again: the possibility for infection just skyrockets.
~ JR Thorpe describing one of “nine terrible ancient methods of abortion,” as reported by Bustle via The Huffington Post, June 18
I heard crocodile dung was used as a contraceptive. Easy to see how it wouldn’t exactly enhance the mood.

The HuffPo link goes into detail about crocodile dung, among other things.

Isn’t this part of the proabortion argument for abortion?
“Abortion has been around since the dawn of time!!”
Indeed. Murder has been around since the first one. Cain and Abel.

Ick. Brings to mind a footnote from the recent Texas case that upheld a law requiring abortion facilities to meet the same standards as ambulatory care centers: “Plaintiffs offered expert testimony that the ASC requirement’s construction standards were ‘largely aimed at maintaining a sterile operating environment,’ which is not necessary for surgical abortion because ‘it entails insertion of instruments into the uterus through the vagina, which is naturally colonized by bacteria.’…”

“Abortion has been around since the dawn of time”. Well after a while anyway. Just like using fire to cook food, wearing clothes to protect against the elements and developing tools to improve life.
Murder’s been around for almost as long as eating and breathing.

When I was in High School, one kid thought that “Mouse Dung” was the leader of China. :P
