I voted for #1 because it’s such an incredibly accurate assessment of our political situation now. Republican war on women my butt.
JDC – public policy vs the actions of one guy.
Regardless – I believe the final gender gap tally in 2012 was 18 points for the Dems – GOP will need to figure out how to get that into single digits by the next meaningful elections.
Hi JDC,
I liked the play on words.
Speaking of the “war on women” Anthony “one man porn show” Weiner’a opponent in the mayoral race, Elliott”client no.9″ Spitzer was, according to the NY madam who’s services he sought, notorious for beating the prostitutes. So much so they feared his brutality. Since these ladies service some real sickos Spitzer must be quite an exception. Apparently pummeling women is fine so long as you pay and they’re only prostitutes.
As for #3, I would think Clinton would be jealous of the fact he had to do his flashing the old fashioned way,
Hi Mary,
Actually, Spitzer is running for Comptroller, quite a step down from governor. I suppose the position of dogcatcher wasn’t up this go-round.
Weiner is running for mayor. It’s beginning to look like he won’t be winning like Berry did in D.C. Perhaps there are some left in N.Y. with a sense of shame.
Ex-GOP, you may be right, but maybe there should be a party that doesn’t live and breathe by pandering. If voting women want to follow the Democrats off a cliff at the rate of other minorities, so be it.
Must we lie to them and act against their – and everyone else’s – self-interests just because they’re deluded? Real leadership leads.
Thanks Hans,
I stand corrected. Since both men are on the primary ballot, I wrongly assumed Spitzer was also running for mayor.
Hey give these guys credit, despite their ups and downs, they hang in there.
Ah, both parties pander to different groups of people. The Dems just seem to be picking groups that are growing to pander to, while the GOP is picking shrinking groups to pander to.
Again, the next few years will be very, very interesting for the GOP.
It just so happens that Anthony Weiner enjoys a “100%” rating from an abortion legalization group but is rated “0%” by an abortion criminalization group. Hmmm . . . ? Significant?
At any rate, sexting partner Sydney Leathers has said Weiner sometimes telephoned her “several times a day” and described him as “like a clingy girlfriend.”
The Internet has created a bizarre netherworld, at once anonymous and intimate. Could this world function as a mechanism to DECREASE abortion? Can we encourage people to SUBSTITUTE internet relationships for the sort of in person relationships that lead to a woman frowning at a positive pregnancy test?
While we’d all prefer for folks to rise above lust, sometimes you have to settle for less than ideal. Internet relationships and romances don’t end up with a pile of tiny dismembered human body parts.
Mary I didnt know that about Spitzer thats terrible. However I am not surprised. Sex workers are often beaten, brutalized and killed. Transsexual prostitutes, especially those of color, are really brutalized ?I just hate the way the media glamorises prostitution, never talking about the violence these women ( and men) face. No matter what you think of prostitution, they dont deserve to be treated this way.
Hi phillymiss,
I saw this on a TV program. The madam, Kristin Davis, discussed how she began and grew her business. She was surprised to see then state AG Spitzer show up at her door requesting her services. Not like anyone would ever recognize the guy.
In an interview with Joy Behar, which you can google, she says Spitzer was blacklisted from her agency because of his aggressiveness, apparently he was into choking. On the TV interview she referred to his violence, which terrified many of the prostitutes.
Prostitute or saintly spinster, no human being deserves to be physically or sexually abused. I remember Big Joe telling me that as a cop, he wanted to kill every pimp he saw. He saw them as the ultimate predators. Absolutely nothing glamorous or “victimless” about prostitution.
Happy birthday Barack Obama! :-)
Mary,
It’s actually ironic that Spitzer is running for comptroller – which is actually pronounced “controller”, given his brutal use of prostitutes.
Hi Hans,
Great point.
BTW during the interview, Joy Behar brought up the “sexist” behavior of Republican Rick Lazio when he confronted Hillary in that senatorial debate. Gasp! Well, women sure ahowed him on election day!
However Ms.Behag seemed to see nothing sexist or have any issue with Democrat Spitzer, who gets his sick thrills from brutalilzing and throttling women, running for public office.
Must be that Republican War on Women.
I’d like to see a cartoon about phony scandals. How about a phony impeachment for Prezzie Barry? That would be a good laugh.

If he went around choking people he should be arrested. But its okay if they were just wh*res, right? I don’t know why his wife didn’t divorce him long ago. I like Jenny Sanford, she kicked that jerk husband of hers TO THE CURB!
Well there are prostitutes who aren’t victims of violence and enjoy doing it. But for every one like that, there are ten that are beaten, trafficked, and abused. I recently dated a guy that admitted he used one of those Asian-staffed “massage” parlors that offer an ah-hem, happy ending. Some of those women are trafficked. He didn’t call me after that first date, and I’m glad, because he was a CREEP!
Hi MST,
I share your disgust. Apparently brutalizing and throttling people is fine so long as you pay for it.
Jenny Sanford did the right thing, and her husband, while making a complete jackass of himself, at least didn’t throttle people. At least not that we know of anyway.
I have to wonder where the National Organization ”For” Women is and why we aren’t hearing any outrage from them. Apparently being a Democrat helps Spitzer like it did Clinton.
Good for you for unloading that dirtball. You definitely deserve better.
“If he went around choking people he should be arrested. But its okay if they were just wh*res, right? ”
Main reason why I think we should decriminalize prostitution on the side of the “providers” and just prosecute the johns/pimps/madams/traffickers. The sex workers have no real options if they are raped, beaten, robbed, etc. They are just as likely to get arrested as the perpetrators of the violence are, and the police definitely don’t take crimes against women and men in the sex industry seriously. We’re not fixing anything by making these people not likely to go to the police for fear of prosecution or harassment or not being taken seriously. And vice cops (not all of them, but a good portion) can be really corrupt. And I don’t know about NYC but the average age of a prostitute here in Miami is 14, last I read (and from what I saw when I was homeless I’m pretty sure that’s a pretty good estimate of the reality). So these men (and the rare woman) are getting away with having sex with children of both genders, as long as those kids are prostitutes. It’s just really disgusting.
Jack, if what you said about the average age of a Miami prostitute being 14 is true, then this is an outrage. But even if prostitution is legalized, there are still men and women who want very young girls and boys. In the Netherlands there are a group of pimps called “lover boys” who befriend young women, and then force them into prostitution. Some of these girls are as young as 12. In some Muslim countries, pedophiles are executed. I think that’s a bit too much, but this pond scum should be punished to the fullest extent of the law.

Yep. Here in Philly two cops asked an exotic dancer if she wanted a ride home, then they took turns raping her. Anybody else would have gone to jail, but they were just placed on probation. Creeps.

Oh, I’m not talking about legalizing prostitution for the scum-suckers side of it. Anyone who buys sex (from someone of any age, but certainly those who buy underage girls and boys should be punished harsher), or runs an establishment or pimps out anyone should be held criminally liable. I just think people shouldn’t be punished criminally for selling sex. The prostitutes themselves shouldn’t be held criminally liable, I think this makes sex worker harder to counteract and easy to exploit and abuse vulnerable people. I basically spent my teens around the drug user/prostitute/homeless population and was involved in a lot of it, and I’ve not seen that punishing people criminally for these types of crimes does any good. It just makes them easier to harm and exploit. just like I think punishing addicts and minor drug runners doesn’t do any good, punish the suppliers.
And considering how much heroin and coke I’ve sold to vice cops, among other rather nasty things I’ve witnessed from them, I am of the opinion that a lot of cops choose vice because they HAVE those vices.
wow Jack you have had an interesting life. You should write a memoir (seriously)
Lol I would have to leave the state before writing it. And I would have much rather had a boring middle class existence, to be honest.
Jack, it is really admirable the way that you try to put as much good into the world as you can, considering all the stories you have to tell. I hope you find full healing in your life.
Thanks MaryRose I try hard, I haven’t been doing well at it lately but it’s been a bad couple months.
Well Jack, if you ever change your mind, I know a literary agent who might be interested. Seriously. Memoirs are hard to write because they have to read like fiction, but I’m sure you could do it!
Heck, I’d read it, Jack! You could get the last word on every chapter and no commenter could interrupt your narrative. Not meaning anyone in particular (LOL!).
