Lunch Break: Brandy & Maks’ DWTS Elimination
To give us a break from the daily grind…
Did you see last night’s DWTS elimination of Brandy and Maks and, if so, what do you think? I knew it was coming and boy did it R-E-E-K of favoritism! (No offense to Bristol Palin, but everyone in that room knew who was the superior performer, as evidenced by the outcries and boos.)
Looks like poor Bristol has yet another emotional hurdle to overcome in the national spotlight. (Will there be anarchy if she wins the Mirrorball trophy next Tuesday, beating Jennifer Grey and Kyle Massey who, once again, are also clearly the superior performers?)

Joan,
This is a warning. Stick to the rules of commenting.
I actually really enjoyed watching Bristol this season, she danced with class and dedication. But she’s dodged the bullet way too often. Heck, in my opinion, Brandy should’ve won the whole competition, she was SO beautiful and fluid. Most reality shows have some bit of favoritism in them, but this has really taken the cake. Politics have definitely played a part in her success, I don’t think anyone can really say otherwise- people vote for her because she’s a “Palin”. Statistically, people who lean Republican are a much bigger portion of the audience than people who lean Democrat, and that’s been the big factor of her wins the past few weeks. Not to take anything away from her accomplishment, she’s worked really hard, but you have to wonder if she’d danced stiff and lifeless (like Kate last season) if she’d likely still be up there anyway. It’s disappointing.
(I’ve now admitted that I watch trashy reality TV on a public forum…I will never escape this! XD)
“This is a warning. Stick to the rules of commenting.”
Oh? What rule of commenting did I violate? I looked, but I didn’t see “making fun of Bristol Palin’s awful dancing” under the “do not’s”.
Try “no inflammatory comments.” Your comment mocked a disabled 2-year-old, Joan. It’s very telling. Why not Piper, Willow or Track? Hmm?
On topic, I think anytime you open up a show to public voting, people can use that to promote their faves, regardless of their talent. American Idol is a perfect example. Many of the people who won that show were clearly not the most talented, nor have they sold the most records.
And yes, Brandy should have advanced. She was by far one of the best in the lineup. I think Bristol can kiss it goodbye next week out of sheer backlash. :D
Carla, it’s obvious that you’re not removing my posts because of any specific issues with their content, but simply because you don’t want me here. For once in your life, stop being so passive-aggressive. You want me gone, so go ahead, ban me, and explain that you’re doing so not because I broke the “rules” that nobody else here is held to, but that you hate me on a personal level and want me gone from the one place in your life where you have anything approaching power.
Hi there Joan. I removed your last post. Because it was inflammatory like the first (which was pretty darn hideous). Dislike Bristol Palin all you want, but you crossed the line when you brought up Trig.
We don’t even know you Joan. The fact that you’re still here is amazing to me, frankly, but we don’t ban anyone because we disagree with their positions, as evidenced by the myriad of respectful pro-choice commenters here. It’s Jill who makes the final call on banning, btw, not the moderators. So, all that crap about Carla? Pretty much just that – crap. Have a swell day. :)
HILARIOUS!! LOL Joanie.
Don’t hate me because I’m beautiful, Joan.
Oh, and I’m pretty sure that if your comment had remained up for all to see, most people would have thought it heartless and cruel. You have buckets of posts still here on this site, joan. Many are crossing the line into inflammatory. But to heartlessly bring up a disabled child? You need to take a good, long look at yourself.
DWTS is half ability, half popularity contest, and if Bristol beat Brandy because of a stronger popularity element, fine with me. The show creators designed the show so that it’s not all about who’s the best dancer.
The judges have said Bristol has great footwork/extension but she doesn’t have much else. She doesn’t put emotion into her body the way Brandy did when dancing and Dancing isn’t just about the footwork.
I missed voting for Brandy because I wasn’t at home, but I was quite annoyed.
Jennifer has my vote all the way. She’s the only one left who’s the “total package” in my opinion.
In the beginning of the competition I give most of my votes to those who I think have the ability, but I might toss a couple of votes for an “underdog”. As the the competion continues I vote based on who I think is the best. I listen to the judges and watch the dances and make a decision based on both factors.
Unless someone does something ON THE SHOW that I really don’t like, I base my votes solely on their ability and the judges comments. (Sometimes I disagree but it’s rare I disagree with the judges–particularly Len…although Bruno has gotten a little more objective as time has gone by and I don’t think Len is nearly as harsh as he once was. Carrie Ann has pretty much stayed the same).
So, a thread about a moronic television program featuring vacuous celebrities (I can say that can’t I, they don’t post here as far as I know) draws more comments than a thread about veterans’ day.
Cranium,
I found the Veterans’ Day post. I posted a reply there. I’m actually very grateful to all our troops. Several of my family are in the military and I commend them and am grateful to them for their commitment to the USA.
One of my nephews is going to be sent to Afganastan and a cousin of mine almost died in Iraq (I’m grateful he made it out alive).
God bless our troops!
As great as Jennifer Grey is, my vote goes to Kyle Massey. Though Jennifer edges him a bit with the technical element, Kyle rocks the personality/entertainment element. But I will be happy if either of them wins the Mirrorball.
I am proud of how well Bristol has done with zero experience and how she has improved over time. However, she clearly belongs in the last spot. We shall see how the vote goes.
I also think Mark and Bristol make a cute couple. :)
ok I admit it..I watch..I love dancing!
personally do not think people with a dancing background should be on the show with those with no dancing experience. While I agree they are the best, both Brandy and Jennifer have experience. So, if you are looking at growth since the show began and coming from nothing, I think Bristol and Kyle have shown the most improvement and I for sure think Kyle should win…it is amazing how he has come from not being a dancer at all to what he is doing now.
Here’s a People article with Bristol stating why she should be in the finals. Also note the Wisconsin resident that shot his TV after seeing Bristol make the finals – the SWAT team had to make a visit to his home!

Bristol is definitely the most improved and I am glad Brandy is gone. I dont watch DWTS regularly but Brandy always seemed to have an attitude. I think Jennifer Gray is full of false modesty and that annoys me. Kyle is my favorite and Bristol is second. They both seem to have more fun and a better spirit of (fun) competition than Brandy and Jennifer.
I have to say I too prefer supporting the contestants WITHOUT dancing background who show great improvement. For me that’s Kyle and Bristol hands down. Yes Brandy was by far the better dancer as is Jennifer, but they both have a significant dancing background compared to Kyle and Bristol. And all of them have exceptional performance background excluding Bristol. I think people like and vote for her because they can see themselves in her. No she’s not the best performer but she has come a long way and I think she’s doing a wonderful job knowing how people are criticizing her.
Also I have to say that Brandy’s attitude, especially those first weeks sealed the deal for me. I couldn’t bring myself to vote for her no matter how good she danced.
