Left fumes that Obama picked Warren for inaugural invocation
Liberals are angry President-elect Barack Obama has chosen conservative evangelical pastor Rick Warren to give the invocation at his inauguration. Here’s a sample from HuffPo:
![]()
Progressive groups are decrying the choice of Rick Warren… as “disappointing” – but it is far more than that. It is an act of spiritual violence against lesbian and gay American citizens and a profound betrayal of the philosophy of inclusion and unity espoused by President-elect Obama.
Big is that Warren supported CA’s Proposition 8, specifying marriage to be between one man and one woman.
As a pro-lifer I’m glad Warren is giving the invocation. I don’t care what ulterior motives Obama has for inviting Warren, such as trying to appear more of a center than left guy. I’m actually surprised Obama picked Warren. Recall the terrible response Obama gave Warren for The Abortion Question of the campaign. Guess he’s not holding a grudge….
I’ve seen Warren take a stronger and stronger stand on abortion. Obama needs people like him in his ear. Warren says things nice, but he says them well and straight up. Read this from BeliefNet.org December 12. Warren rejects the liberal “make abortion rare” mantra.

Oh my, Amie Newman at RH Reality Check didn’t like that comparison:
Now we unveil the story of a religious leader who is adamantly against prevention; in favor of reducing abortion by stripping women of their rights; a leader who compares embryos in utero and mothers who make the best, most loving choices they can when faced with an unintended pregnancy or medical condition, to a murderous movement of anti-Semites who brutally slaughtered Jewish women, men and children.
A mother’s “most loving choice” is to kill her baby? Here’s more for Amie not to like:

Though I am very unsure that Obama is pliable on this issue, I think it will be good to have someone like Warren talking to him.
I’m not sure it will make any difference. Warren is one of those “fence setters”.
Obama is a smart man. I’m sure there is a good reason he chose Warren.Maybe he figures Warren might benefit from listening to him! :)
What?? Obama isn’t doing what his peeps want??!! Some of his peeps are unhappy?? The honeymoon must be over.
The gays are blowing a gasket on this one. so much for their tolerance.
Haha, oh please. Plenty of liberals, including this one, and plenty of gays – including 3 of my coworkers, aren’t even REMOTELY as upset about this as you wish we were.
Thanks for your commentary on this, Jill. I was somewhat put off by this at first, but once again, you looked at this from the proper angle, and I am able to see this as good. Gonna continue to have a positive outlook and be hopeful of a good presidency from Obama.
This is good that Warren has his ear… Especially that last paragraph. Good for Rick Warren.
It will be interesting if Obama carries out his extreme abortion plan.
Did Bush torture 40 milllion people? Were these torturees guiltless or completely innocent as unborn babies are?
I’m not saying torture is OK but the comparison is a joke.
I would have been suspicious if he would have chosen someone like Louis Farrakahn or “reverend” Wright.
Carla, I don’t think the honeymoon is over. :)
Directly from this post: “Barack Obama has chosen conservative evangelical pastor Rick Warren to give the invocation at his inauguration.”
I didn’t see anything about him asking for advice or appointing him to any position. If that happens, THEN the honeymoon would be over. For now.. I mean, the dude is SPEAKING. I don’t care about that one bit, personally. :)
I’m sorry, but I just don’t trust this guy – who would leave a baby to die in a soiled utility room – who then wants to use a man who made him look pretty valueless on national TV. He’s saying with this move that he, Obama, is getting the last laugh. History will only record that a man of God supported a man who has promised to make his country the most pro abortion one in the world, and when he does, he’ll get his revenge for his earlier exposure by the minister. Obama is making him look definitely co-opted. Probably an Alinsky trained trap.
Josephine,
Ok. Maybe the honeymoon isn’t over but then it hasn’t really started yet has it?? :)
The honeymoon started the day he started making appointments. For me, anyway. :)
Yes Obama and the rest of the pro-aborts can change and repent from their killing and beg for God’s mercy or they will be celebrating their with their fearless leader (Satan) in hell.
Change we can believe in.

Actually it’s not that big of an issue. Obama is leaving Iraq. Obama is pro-LGBT, Obama is pro-fair taxation. We win. Conservatives get screwed and all you’ll get for it is a kiss on the cheek from Mr. Warren.
I was very surprised to hear this at first, but having time to think about it, I’m thinking this is just a political ploy by Obama.
It wont change his pro death views in the slightest. Looking at his appointments so far and he has even included the former lawyer of Michael Shavio.
So even though some gays and atheists might be upset by this, there is no question in my mind he plans to persue a very radical far left agenda when he takes office next month.

Actually the whole world is probably going to pay a big price for an adminstration with very far left policies.
You think the economy is bad now….. just wait until a year from now.
YLT “Conservatives get screwed”
Good to see the tolerant left in action.
Josephine: “The honeymoon started the day he started making appointments. For me, anyway. ”
Did you see his labor relations appointment? He has plans to strengthen labor unions. Certainly you are aware of the effect that the strength of unions has had on our car industry right? The average worker makes between 40-70 dollars an hour to screw parts onto vehicles. Does this not seem terribly crooked to you?
Ive been on both sides of a union. I was a member of the Teamsters union for over a year, and I was a supervisor on the opposite end of the Teamsters union for over a year as well.
Believe me when I say that, at the very minimum, this union in particular is horribly corrupt. They are part of the reason Americans are becoming lazier. Why work hard when the Union specifically tells you not to? Why come to work when the Union specifically protects your job over repeated absences?
The stronger the union, the more hardworking Americans are punished for their hard work.
Amen Oliver.
the UAW had a big part in busting the big 3.

Its going to take a lot of what you term “intolerance” to undo the damage that bush has done to the economy. Lets see – a major fund just went under to the tune of $50 Billion. For the amount of activity in the stock market bush never increased the oversight capacity of the stock market regulators. On his watch we have had Enron collapse, bear sterns go under and now this. And all you worry about is fetuses and gay marriage.
Jasper: Do you know how much of a cars cost is labor cost? Do you know how much an autoworker makes? $28 per hour.

Shep: Haha, oh please. Plenty of liberals, including this one, and plenty of gays – including 3 of my coworkers, aren’t even REMOTELY as upset about this as you wish we were.
Exactly. I was surprised at the choice, but no biggie.
For better or worse, to this point the UAW has been pricing its members out of the market.
I’ve read that the “Big 3” pay around $75 per hour in wages and benefits, while Toyota, for example pays about $42 in its American manufacturing plants.
No way to get around the disparity, and when we come to foreign plants then for the most part there’s just no way Americans can compete.
Doug, don’t buy the talking points. No autoworker is getting $75 per hour in wages and benefits. In fact, one study showed Toyota in USA actually paying more than UAW workers were getting.
In a prepared statement for his December 4, 2008, appearance before the Senate Banking Committee, UAW President Ron Gettelfinger said:
Contrary to an often-repeated myth, UAW members at GM, Ford and Chrysler are not paid $73 an hour. The truth is, wages for UAW members range from about $14 per hour for newly hired workers to $28 per hour for assemblers. The $73 an hour figure is outdated and inaccurate. It includes not only the costs of health care, pensions and other compensation for current workers, but also includes the costs of pensions and health care for all of the retired workers, spread out over the active workforce. Obviously, active workers do not receive any of this compensation, so it is simply not accurate to describe it as part of their “earnings.”
Oliver, 2:43am
Remember Jimmy Hoffa? I was in Detroit the week he was turned into hubcaps. He’s probably spent the past 33 years on the side of someone’s trailer.
Now why do you suppose old Jimmy got kidnapped and offed? Because he sang too loudly in church?
No, it was because of power, corruption, and involvement with the mob. Why ever would the mob be involved with something as noble and pure as the unions?
For those who don’t remember, Jimmy Hoffa was a powerful teamster boss.
Did Bush torture 40 milllion people? Were these torturees guiltless or completely innocent as unborn babies are?

Isn’t abortion more deadly and violent than waterboarding?

GM’s annual report says its labor costs average $73.26 per hour, while the …
These annual reports are addited by CPA.s
YLT is spreading more falsehoods. Infact, an audited annual report has much more disclosre the the Corrupt PEBO from the chicago way could ever imagine.
Net after takes may be 28 dollars. And after union dues.

Annual reports are audited Hal. The numbers are a little more accurate than reports would be if drawn up by lawyers. Yesterday hearings in Illinois were by the state auditor and the corrupt financial transactions of Blagovich. Your kind of guy.
Again the liberals will pull numbers out of the air and argue tham as being truthful.
Hal :”The truth is, wages for UAW members range from about $14 per hour for newly hired workers to $28 per hour for assemblers.”
For newly hired workers Hal. If the union is anything like other unions, they probably have UNCAPPED MANDATORY raises every year, regardless of wages. This wage you quoted also does not include the ridiculous benefits they are receiving. Besides, starting at 28 dollars an hour for assemblers? Does that seem reasonable to you?
Have you worked with a strong union before Hal?
They are destroying the American work ethic, bottom line. Ive seen it first hand.
You think the economy is bad now….. just wait until a year from now.
Joanne, I tend to agree, though it would have been the same had McCain won. “Interesting times” as they say.
Hal, good points, but the real costs for the Big 3 really are huge.
How much are current UAW auto industry wages?
In 2006 a typical UAW-represented assembler at GM earned $27.81 per hour of straight-time labor. A typical UAW-represented skilled-trades worker at GM earned $32.32 per hour of straight-time labor. Between 2003 and 2006, the wages of a typical UAW assembler have grown at about the same rate as wages in the private sector as a whole – roughly 9 percent. Part of that growth is due to cost-of-living adjustments that have helped prevent inflation from eroding the purchasing power of workers’ wages.
You add in health care and pension, plus whatever else – matching Social Security, right(?), unemployment, worker’s compensation…. and we are talking about all or almost all of the $75 (this is 2008 now) or $73 or let’s even say $65 – and there’s no way they can be competive.
There’s also that deal where they get like 95% of their pay even when laid off. Obviously, that’s going to make the cost-per-hour-actually-worked go up even more.
I don’t mean to nitpick the numbers, really – here’s what I think is going to happen:
They get bailed out, and the underlying problems aren’t going to have gone away, plus it’s an even tougher environment now. They still won’t be able to compete, and the river of red ink will continue to flow. Without real concessions from the union, fuhgeddabouddit.
I know it would ripple though the economy were they to go bankrupt, but hey, they’re really already pretty well bankrupt. I don’t have a good solution here – and there isn’t one that doesn’t involve economic pain.
One thing, though, it does seem crazy that Wall Street gets hundreds of billions in handouts and the automakers can’t even get a loan…
(Jimmy Hoffa) He’s probably spent the past 33 years on the side of someone’s trailer.

:: laughing :: Ha! Love it, Mary.
I thought he was taking it easy under an on-ramp of the New Jersey Turnpike….
Here’s what I’ve got going on today:
Wisconsin, Doug?
Yup.
Lovin every minute of it!! We were supposed to get 4-8 inches. I bet we only got 2. :(
Carla,
we’re expecting 8-12 inches in the Boston area..
Snow is fun.
Jasper,
I am jealous. I have 4 children to occupy over Christmas break and snow is always a sanity saver for me. :)
Doug, that looks great. I wish we could get some snow here. The kids really want it to. It’s going to be in the 70’s today, so I don’t think we’ll be seeing any just yet. But we do have lots of rain. :)
Sorry, Bethany. We are a balmy 21 degrees right now. :)
Today was supposed to be the Christmas parties, slipper party (for niece in Catholic preschool) and official last day of school (and early dismissal) for my nieces and nephew, but snow and ice canceled school.
Last time I checked my Sky Atomic Clock, it was 25 degrees outside. BRRRRR! And I am sure the windchill makes it even colder.
Doug, 10:11am
My brother was a police officer at the time and was convinced Jimmy became part of a new expressway going through town. Recently they dug up some farm in Michigan looking for Hoffa, bulldozers, etc., and only found a horse corpse.
Yes, that is definitely Wisconsin. Global warming strikes again! I’m never letting you live that down Doug. HaHaHaHaHaHaHaHaHa
Global warming:

Mary, you’re quite welcome. I figure that you know down deep that nothing is even remotely disproved.
Uh, maybe the radical homosex-fascists don’t realize it, but Obama is what what they call an “anti-gay bigot”, meaning, he is opposed to gay “marriage”. He always has been. If they are going to object to Warren since he’s against gay marriage, they should also object to Obama.
Doug 8:42PM
You know I love you dearly and can’t resist giving you some guff. Down deeply and every place else I think global warming is a crock. Sooner or later you will admit I’m right…again.
By the way, keep the snow blower charged up. More snow is coming our way and temperatures are dipping again this weekend.Brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!!!!
Have you seen any more vacationing polar bears? I think its getting too cold here even for them.
Have a great holiday season Doug.
Mary
Doug- no way to compete- this may largely be due to the company having to provide health insurance. I have a feeling they would love it if we had a national health insurance plan…
PiP :”Doug- no way to compete- this may largely be due to the company having to provide health insurance. I have a feeling they would love it if we had a national health insurance plan…”
Who do you think will pay for the national health insurance plan? Thats right, those same companies. Only this time they will be paying for everyone in the nation, employed somewhere or not. As it is, these companies are only collectively paying for insurance for those who are employed.
Besides, lots of companies provide health insurance and do fine. Im sure Toyota and Honda have some sort of health plan.
If they are going to object to Warren since he’s against gay marriage, they should also object to Obama.

Couldnt agree more. I dont know if anyone else saw Rick on Dateline tonight, but I was getting so angry at Ann Curry.
She really went after Rick on the prop 8 issue and how mad gays were. I agree, they are mad…. but conservatives are mad also…. but they arent out protesting and disrupting church services.
Why does Obama get a pass?
On another note, I was disappointed when she asked him how he could support Obama when they are at opposite ends on the abortion issue.
Rick said something about “I dont agree with my wife all the time” which I thought was quite lame.

The difference between Obama and Warren is that Obama didn’t work against Prop. 8. In fact he is in favor of gay marriage being a state by state issue. Eventually just as in the case of Loving V. Virginia which outlawed so-called “Miscegenation” laws , DOMA will come crashing down.

Mary, global warming isn’t saying that it never gets cold anywhere anymore. So yes, there will be cold weather, still, for at least a while longer, in some places at some times. Global warming is proceeding, however.
Doug- no way to compete- this may largely be due to the company having to provide health insurance. I have a feeling they would love it if we had a national health insurance plan…
PIP, even with certain advantages in efficiency due to technology, etc., just the wages alone in the US make it tough if not impossible to compete.
Doug, 1:32PM
Sure, whatever. By the way, did you hear another snowstorm is headed our way? Be thankful we’re not experiencing global cooling, which by the way some scientists think we are.
Doug,
Maybe global warming is real and Mother Nature just has a great sense of humor.
Well, I sure think Mo’ Nature got a great big funny bone….
I do not believe there is ANY hope for O to be swayed on this issue one iota!
Why? Because neither was Manasseh or Ahaz – these are men who were intent on killing children and in those days it was thru sacrifice.
I think that Warren likes the limelight and wants to be the next Billy Graham – I don’t know O’s reasons for having him around except that he’s articulate and enjoyable.
Otherwise – I do not have any hope that O will change his mind on this subject! Hence I trust in God only to get us thru these years w/this abomination! Oh ya – sorry I went black and white on you – I do have opinions … OOPS!
