Lunch Break: Dick Clark, TV American Legend, 1929-2012
by LauraLoo
Beloved American Bandstand legend Dick Clark passed away yesterday at the age of 82.
Here’s one of my favorite AB segments – loved dancing to that song when I was a teen! What are some of your fondest memories of Dick and AB?
Dick Clark was also such an outstanding entrepreneur/capitalist, broadening his scope even further to introducing the genesis of New Year’s Rockin’ Eve in Times Square.

This New Year’s Eve won’t be the same without Dick Clark!

I miss him already.
Now that Dick Clark has died, we can’t ring in the New Year. Well-played, Mayans. Well-played.
I saw om TV about a set of autistic twins, now in their 50’s, who were also savants. They were obsessed with Dick Clark, becoming very upset when he had a stroke some years ago. Dick Clark agreed to meet with the twins personally to assure them he was doing well, putting their minds at ease, an also giving them the chance to finally meet their idol. He also said the cameras would not be permitted, that the meeting was private.
What a testament to this man’s character.
He was definitely a giant in show business. The closest I got to him was seeing The $10,000 Pyrramid c. 1974. The guests were Ann Meara and Bill Cullen. The resolution on the studio monitors was mind-blowing, almost the HDTV of today.
I’ll never forget seeing David Brinkley in the hallway. He looked WEIRD. It was that heavy make-up that makes anyone look strange off-camera. :)
R.I.P. Dick Clark.
