… a risky assumption to begin with.

• Secular Pro-Life has discovered some interesting nuggets in Planned Parenthood’s latest annual report. For instance, PP hails the box office flop Obvious Child as a “major victory.” They also boast of an increased college campus presence, bringing them to over 200 chapters. However, there are more than 4 times as many pro-life college campus groups. SPL’s personal favorite is the fact that PP credits their own organization with preventing an extra 1,000 unplanned pregnancies even though they show a decrease in dispensing contraceptives.

Gruber published a paper during the Clinton administration observing that legalizing abortion saved the government $14 billion in assistance to economically disadvantaged mothers, including African-Americans, and lowered crime. Following the devastating Democrat rout last week, commentators on both sides of the political spectrum have proclaimed the “war on women” battle cry dead.

While abortion enthusiasts may now be forced to retire that exact terminology, and while they may also be forced to temper their hysterical push for free contraceptives (also because the new Republican “let’s offer them over-the-counter” counter-offensive terrifies Planned Parenthood), rest assured they will repackage the message.

In fact, they already have.

• American Life League’s Judie Brown contrasts the indifference toward the slaughter of 3,000 humans daily by abortion in America to the outcry over the euthanasia of an Ebola patient’s dog in Spain. Brown is a dog lover, but even she was shocked at the huge response to save the life of one animal:
  

  Here is the first sentence of a news report that came to my attention recently: “With more than 3,400 people dead in west Africa and 7,500 infected in the latest Ebola outbreak, 300,000 people sign a petition demanding action… to save an infected dog.” This was twice as many people as those who signed a petition demanding a cure be found for the deadly virus….

  As it turns out, the dog was “put down” Wednesday by Madrid’s regional government. But the fact of the matter is that the plight of this one pet generated more interest and involvement than a single preborn child threatened and then killed by the act of abortion.

  There is something dramatically wrong with this picture.

• Life Issues says the deep, dark secret of the health industry is the “hastening of death” through euthanasia thanks to a lucrative market for organ harvesting:
  

  The difficulty of making a pinpoint diagnosis in such complex neurological matters — and the lucrative financial incentives to harvest organs — will ultimately propel this issue into the forefront of public consciousness and discourse.

  Not surprisingly, the current procurement market for human tissues and organs in the United States is booming, driven by insufficient supply and heavy demand. According to The Milliman Report (see page 4), if all 11 tissues and organs could be harvested from a single patient declared brain-dead, however unlikely, the going rate for procurement would exceed half a million dollars. If all costs related to those 11 transplants are counted — preparation, physicians’ services, post-op care and the like — the money involved exceeds $5.5 million.

  Life Issues is asking for help from health professionals in drawing attention to this.
