EMILY’s List “gala reception”
This afternoon, I attended the pro-abortion PAC EMILY’s List so called “gala reception”, with special guests Hillary Clinton, Michelle Obama, and Nancy Pelosi.
I purchased my ticket online weeks ago yet had concerns of being turned away at the door or having my video equipment and computer confiscated.
Neither happened. I picked up my ticket with no interrogations and aced security.
But, surprises were still in store….
I entered the ballroom with maybe 1,000 others to find this would be the first “gala reception” I’d ever attended with no chairs, tables, or food. Just a big empty room with a stage and a soda table in the corner.
Then, lo and behold, all of the speakers became allergic to the topic of abortion, I mean “choice.” I’d had a vision that if I made it through security with my electronic equipment intact, I might catch one of them on tape giving a sicko pro-abort speech like Barack did at last year’s Planned Parenthood PAC event.
But I don’t think Hillary or Nancy even gave “choice” its own sentence. Only Michelle did, maybe two, but nothing stirring, just a yadda yadda about the importance of government non-intrusion.
Perhaps that is the more interesting story here: avoidance of the topic. Why? Seriously, I don’t think “choice” got more than three minutes total in 1.5 hours of speeches.
If I had it to do over again, I would have spent more time outside the event with the Survivors protestors:

The cause of sex without consequences at the cost of human life goes on (perhaps not the flush money maker for leftist pols it has been, it might seem).
Meanwhile, the DNC grinds on toward becoming known, I suspect, as The Inconsequential Convention of 2008.
Jill:
The Democrats are realizing, by the grace and mercy of God, that the abortion issue matters to the country and they also realize that they are on the wrong side of the fence. Their retreat from this at this “gala” is a clue to the situation they are in. The Democratic Party has blown it and they know it and it will only get worse.
My spiritual sense is that God is beginning to move on the hearts and minds of people regarding abortion and how evil and wrong it is. We must press on and that more forcefully than ever. We must defeat this monster called abortion as the Lord has opened a door.
In my heart I feel like He is asking, “My people, do you really want this scourge of the shedding of innocent blood that has so stained your land and marked it for judgement, to end? Show me and I, the Lord, will end it. Show me by your prayers, by your supplications, by your weeping, by your changed hearts, by your changed actions. Show me and I will act for I have found a remnant in your land who are willing to give it all, to lay down their lives for the sake of my name. Return to me all of you who have left my presence, I call on you to forsake the abomination of the murder of the innocents”.
People are sensing how our country is going down the wrong path and a dramatic turn around is going to happen. I am looking for a conservative upset of major proportions this November. And then, we will hold all conservatives accountable to rid our country of the curse of abortion.
Barack has got to feel that his and Pelosi latest gaffes on the life question has wounded him and his selection of Biden will prove to be a pro-abortion disaster. I’ll bet you anything is is going to try to make up some ground on tha issue and will stumble horribly. Why? Because being a pro-abort is not something you feel or have an opinion about, it is soething you are. It is tied to your character and your being and it can’t be hidden. He will expose himself for who he truly is in trying to mask it, and it will not work.
God my Father, I pray fervently and earnestly that you lift the veil off of people’s hearts so that they can see what the horror and evil of abortion. Lord, give Barack no comfort, no hiding place, except in the heartfelt admission of his folly. Father, let the truth of abortion be seen in Barack Obama’s speech on Thursday night and let this country be moved away from this man as leader. Father, move on John McCain’s heart to select the most pro-life person out there for VP, Mike Huckabee. Father, give Senator McCain a dream, a vision of your will. Father, break us Lord, mold us, protect us and may your will be done. Thank you Lord for answering my prayer. I pray this in the sweet, sweet name of Jesus Christ, the Lord God of Hosts, King of Kings, amen.
God bless you Jill, I am praying for you and lifting you up to our Father.
“Then lo and behold all of the speakers became allergic to the topic of abortion’
Of course, they have to be careful now not to express what they really feel or who they are. Pro-aborts are deciteful like that, especially around election time. They really don’t like to discuss it because they realize it’s a loser for them.
God-Bless you Jill and all the pro-lifers doing God’s work at the convention.
AMEN, Hisman.
Amen.
Abortion-rights aficionados have been allergic to the topic of abortion for some time now….
Say, what does NARAL actually stand for these days? It used to be the National Association for the Reform of Abortion Laws. Then they changed Reform to Repeal. After Roe and Doe, when all abortion laws had been effectively repealed, they changed their name to the National Abortion Rights Action League.
That sounds like a superhero team, doesn’t it?
“Help! Little Suzie is pregnant and won’t be able to finish school!”
“Quick, call the National Abortion Rights Action League!”
(whoosh)
“Look! Up in the sky! It’s a bird! It’s a plane! No, it’s Suction Man!!!”
Anyway….
It is extra-ironic that the abortion-rights women of Emily’s List aren’t even willing to use the word. They’ve nominated the most stringently pro-choice presidential candidate ever. They’ve finally managed to make the Democratic platform even more favorable toward abortion than it had ever been. Why back down now?
I think you’re right. I think some alarm bells are ringing inside their heads … the abortion-rights lobby has realized that they’ve overreached. The vast majority of Americans are somewhere between the pro-choice and pro-life “camps” but they’re still very uncomfortable with abortion. They don’t like it, but they’re still willing to support its legality. As long as you don’t shove it into their faces.
The Clintons realized the truth. That was the motivator for their “safe, legal, and rare” (SL&R) dodge. They knew that Americans would continue to support abortion rights as long as someone was willing to pay lip service to regretting abortion. But the hardcore pro-choice folks never liked SL&R. It smacked of moral judgment, and libertines don’t like to be judged. So they’ve finally ditched SL&R in favor of a full-throated battle cry that Abortion is Good!
We’ll see how well that plays with mainstream Americans….
Wow – silence at a PAC gala that’s all about choice is a big indicator they don’t want to deal with this issue at all – apparently there’s a very sore nerve point called IL BAIPA they don’t want told.
Someone has been working on tactics.
I love the writing on the sidewalk: “Social Justice Begins in the Womb”.
Perfect sentiment for the DNC.

Jill,
I don’t know how you do it. I would probably be screaming my head off in rage and frustration!! Good thing YOU are THERE and I am HERE. :)
Keep up the good work!!
Carla, thanks for your kind defense from a few days ago.
You know what cracks me up. The main justification for abortion seems to be that we arent not required to give blood transfers to our children.
Can you imagine a rally of people so passionate to make it law that we dont have to give blood to our dying children?
It doesn’t surprise me that nothing was really discussed concerning “choice”. For B. Obama to win, he must cloak his far-left agenda under what he tries to put forth as “typical, mid-west values”. Has anyone read Stanley Kurtz’s “Senator Stealth”?
Eileen,
You are welcome. I care about Sally(and you)very much. She talks from her pain, in ways that can hurt others the way she is hurting. You already knew that though didn’t you?? :) I am not excusing her choice of words but it does help me to understand why she writes the way she does.
When I came here Sally did the same to me and my story. An initiation of sorts….ha
Carla, I suspected as much and then something was written just recently that confirmed it. If only everyone knew how much Jesus wants to bring them healing. I guess we just need to keep praying.
Of course they are allergic to the actual use of “abortion” this year. It’s due to all the coverage that now links that word with infanticide thanks to their hero/idol, Obama himself! And this show may just be due to Jill’s fantastic fortitude…and they didn’t even know that “she” was in the room!! The delicious irony!

I think this is a very accurate assessment of the current cultural climate. The need therefore, is to convince people that by supporting the “choice” of abortion, they are determining the culture and the way society will deal with ALL people- disabled, elderly, homeless, etc.
I think most people really consider abortion to be a separate event, that has NO consequences to themselves, their families and society. That is, until they have one…
Jill:
What pro aborts do not want to talk about is the image of a baby in a womb. As Archbishop of Denver said, modern science and medicine enable us to see that a human being, not just some blob of cells, is what the abortionist is killing. Choice sounds so much less easier to say than infanticide.
So no one knew of or cared about Jill Stanek.
I was glad to see the mutilated fetus people on the mall, as many Colorado voters do not know about the people behind Amendment 48, and if advertising becomes necessary to defeat 48, one picture of them is worth a thousand words.
PPC,
Obviously you do. You blather here almost every day.
Sandy,
*snicker*
“Perhaps that is the more interesting story here: avoidance of the topic. Why? Seriously, I don’t think “choice” got more than 3 minutes total in 1.5 hours of speeches.”
It’s a settled issue. As long as McCain can’t contaminate the Supreme Court, abortion will remain legal. No need to give speeches about it, it’s not 1968 again.
My daughter can be seen in the photo with the two posters, “Barack Obama, Change This”, and “Embrace Life, Stop the Killing”. I am very proud of her and her sister (who works with/for Survivors). It is shocking how the Pro Life people are being ignored by MSM. Tells you who’s ‘side’ they are on.
“It is shocking how the Pro Life people are being ignored by MSM.”
Oh yes, quite shocking. They’re ignoring the Unicorn Society also, and the vegan UFO guys. All the top issues are being ignored.
Hal, the media did cover the (unsuccessful) attempt to levitate the Denver Mint, so they are covering SOME of the top issues. :)
Hal,
Unicorns are similar to abortions huh? Keep diluting yourself Hal. You realize they have as much support in their views as you do right?
“As long as McCain can’t contaminate the Supreme Court, abortion will remain legal.”
No hal, we need only one more Justice to tip Roe.
Stevens is almost ninety, Ginsberg is getting up there. Souter is a sneaky little traitor.
Hal wrote:

Um, what? Abortion is a “settled” issue? So pro-lifers and pro-choicers should all just shake hands and go home, huh? The last thirty-five years of hand-to-hand combat over abortion has been a bad dream….
Seriously, now … you can’t possibly believe that abortion is a settled issue in this country. Abortion hasn’t been a settled issue since that dark day in 1973, and it won’t be a settled issue until we finally succeed in building a culture of Life. (Or until Jesus returns, which might well happen first!)
If abortion is a “settled” issue, why do you keep visiting Jill’s blog and leaving comments for the rest of us to read?
In fairness, the MSM has provided extensive coverage of the arrest of Randall Terry and 13 others yesterday, while they were blocking access to the Pepsi Center, as well as his distribution of racist pamphlets and his disruption of a religious service. I’m sure they will cover his arrests today and tomorrow.
Certainly he is not being ignored by the MSM.
I’m pretty sure if they overturned Roe v Wade, there would be a riot. And that I’d be in it. Luckily, no president would be stupid enough to do more than try to regulate it more harshly. Including McCain.

To taunt and mock HisMan. And sometimes Jaspter.
And support Erin.
And make friends with Bobby and MK.
Erin,
Maybe it will start another civil war?
Erin wrote:

You do know that overturning Roe will simply put abortion law back into the states’ hands, right? Why would you riot over that? In the very worst case, just move to a state with abortion-friendly laws, like New York or California.
Say Hal, maybe the reason why you want to make friends with mk and Bobby — is because they don’t taunt people?
Jill, I visited another bloggers report on the Emily’s list Gala or Extravaganza and here it is:

What claptrap.
as well as his distribution of racist pamphlets
What did the pamphlets say?
Pansy, Randall Terry’s Pamphlet “Real Solutions for the Negro Problem” were reproduced on “coloradoindependent.com” in an article by Wendy Morris dated 8/24/08.
We do not want innocent blood on our hands. Keep up the good work, Jill. May God increase your strength… wisdom… and understanding.
Summum bonum,

Yes, they’re better people than me.
Well, Hal, it’s never too late to be sorry for the things we do and try to do better. Blessings…
In case anyone might actually believe PPC’s allegations of racism … don’t bother. Following his/her comment, I dug up the Colorado Independent article which even includes a scanned image of one side of Terry’s pamphlet:
http://www.coloradoindependent.com/5224/anti-abortion-activist-distributes-real-solutions-to-the-negro-problem-tract-at-dnc/
Reporter Wendy Norris (and PPC) seem to have missed the point of Terry’s pamphlet. The pamphlet is not actually advocating slavery, racism, or anything of the sort. Instead, Terry is trying to draw an analogy between the evil of abortion and the evil of slavery. His argument is that no serious Christian would consider voting for an otherwise-solid candidate (the fictional “Smith”) who was “pro-choice” on slavery. Therefore, no Christian should vote for a candidate who is pro-choice on abortion.
I’m not crazy about Terry’s pamphlet. I think it’s tasteless and poorly-written. It’s also comically out-of-date, since it refers to an electoral contest between Rudy and Hillary. (Remember when we thought that would happen?) The pamphlet doesn’t even mention Obama. Couldn’t he have brought something new to Denver?
However, the message of the pamphlet — badly-written as it is — should still be clear. That message is pro-life, not pro-slavery.
“Yes, they’re better people than me. ”
I am better than NO ONE, Hal. In fact I am much worse because I claim to know “the truth” yet I still refuse to live it.
Pansy, Randall Terry’s Pamphlet “Real Solutions for the Negro Problem” were reproduced on “coloradoindependent.com” in an article by Wendy Morris dated 8/24/08.
OK, I saw the pamphlets. While I always lean pro-life, I am not one to excuse a racist remark simply because it was made by a pro-lifer. I thought these pamphlets were at worst silly (almost embarrassingly so). Just taking it at face value, the point was trying to to connect abortion and slavery (which I do get as to me they are both social justice issues), but I think these pamphlets did not do it well. Certainly not to the extent that any pro-choicer would thunk their head and say “I get it now!” But I didn’t think they were racist. For example the pamphlet title was not “Real Solutions for the Negro Problem” implying that Operation Rescue thinks “negroes” are a problem and uses such archaic terminology, it was Real Solutions for the “Negro Problem” referring to a throwback to when pro-slavery groups discussed the “Negro Problem”, the point being (I think) that if we live in a country that found slavery to be wrong, surely we can find murder of the unborn wrong. I don’t know, again, not the best argument. And I also agree that if he was literally barring entrance to the Pepsi Center, not so smart either (and plain illegal).
But I have to say, the thing doesn’t stink of racism to me as just dopiness.
I often make the distinction because there is genuine racism in this country that still thrives quite strong. Every time someone points out to something that’s kind of, could be, but not really, it gives people an excuse to blow off the issue.
Good reminder, Bobby. You and mk speak the truth with love, that is why Hal wants to make friends with you. I tried in an oblique way to make the point. :)
I’m pretty sure if they overturned Roe v Wade, there would be a riot. And that I’d be in it. Luckily, no president would be stupid enough to do more than try to regulate it more harshly. Including McCain.

I don’t think there would be a riot Erin, but I think the proaborts would scream from the heavens that there would be a riot. I think you’d end up with a situation like slavery – certain states would have abortion, many others would not. The question is one of numbers and how that would play out eventually on a national level.
Hi,
My heart cries for the little one’s who’s giggles and laugher has been silents from within womb.
John McCain must have pro-life’s full support on election day,we must stand on the side of God, who says thou shall not kill,we must stand up for the little one’s and stand firm with God and cast our vote for John McCain and his very firm pro-life running mate Sarah Palin.
God has gave us the way to pave a better tomorrow let our voices ring loud and clear on Nov 4,2008
