Monday question
Read Charles’ Krauthammer’s column, “Obama’s race to lose – and he just might,” making a point I mentioned the other day: Part of Barack Obama’s problem now is simply gravity: shooting stars must eventually fall, his in unfortunate conjuction with a new star rising.
Then there’s the problem of the non-Biden factor, as illustrated by Gary Varvel…

… mostly due to the fact he’s not Hillary.
Which brings me to a Monday question. I usually reserve this segment for weekends, but I’m going to be busy this morning working on a Big Announcement – watch for it this afternoon – and won’t be posting again ’til later.
So here’s something to discuss in the meanwhile. There was chatter at the Vote Values Summit that Obama indeed might switch out Biden for Hillary.
How would people receive this decision? How do you think it would impact the election?

You know that’s just Republican wishful thinking, Jill. The Obama campaign isn’t feeling nearly as desperate as McPalin, whose poll numbers have been falling all week and are now back where they were before the conventions. 50 days to go, and the debates begin next week. :D
What polls are you lookin’ at? You gotta lay off the tinkerbell dust.
http://www.realclearpolitics.com/polls/
If the Obaminator switches his pick for VP then that proves he’s just a reactionary leader than a proactive one.
The presidency decides on a lot of strategic decisions…economic and social mistakes may be forgiven…Military ones will not since these would involve other nations and cultures, not just our own.
As I said in another post…Hillary may or may not support a crumbling campaign if she was asked at this point in time. It would depend on her amount of lust for power…either accept the VP nomination now and lose the election or come back in 4 and BE the presidential candidate…
RSD-
If Hillary doesn’t take it now, she will not be the candidate in 4 years. Simple human nature. The blame for Obama’s loss will be placed somewhere by his supporters, and who will that logical choice be?
Hillary. She will be blamed for the long convention season that led to party divisions, she’ll be blamed for “not being as supportive as possible” and far too many people simply don’t like her for her to be able to take it in 4 years.
Granted, it depends if another candidate comes along with appeal that the Obama supporters get behind as a group, if they fracture between a multitude of candidates its possible Clinton would in fact be the nominee, but against whom would become the important question in that case.
Looking forward to your big announcement Jill. Praying for you. The knowledge you possess about the real Obama needs to be everywhere.
After the nuclear strike is no time to change your mind. Selecting a VP running mate should be made as with much gravity.
I’m looking forward to the big announcement!
Great cartoon!
if obama chooses hillary is is going to make him look weak and indecisive. is that really wha tyou want in a president? a president needs to be strong and stand behind what he believes in!
our old “friend” SOMG, or someone with the same moniker made a comment on that Charles Krauthammer article.
If he switches over to Hilary, I’d say he was giving in to the whiny woman. He won’t win over anyone by switching. I’m already voting for Palin.
Can’t you just see Joe Biden showing up at the Oct 2 VP debate dressed in drag? He’s the type to do it, too! The best thing Biden could do for Obama at this point would be to have a sex change!
This blog is for the non-thinking. Come on..is this seriously reality for you all?
Let’s be smart Republicans… show the other side that we are thinking bunch of folks..I just read some of these for the first time and I am so ashamed….
Once you plaster a canidate on the cover of “US” magazine..you have basically said..this is the flavor of the week… Come one… talk real politics…

“shooting stars must eventually fall, his in unfortunate conjuction with a new star rising.”
Don’t you think this could also apply to Palin?
That cartoon nails it….. Palin…. Full of HOT AIR!!!!
Palin is not just a shooting star, she is here to stay. She shines brighter than all the rest and will continue to shine!
“Don’t you think this could also apply to Palin?”
No PIP, because Palin is an authentic, accomplished patriotic American. Unlike Obama, who has some really bad friends and worships Saul Alinsky and makes joke about how McCain can’t use a keyboard because of his war injuries. Really swell guy that Obama.
what concerns me though is the demographic change, alot of the good americans are dying off and being replaced by the stupidest Americans that roam our universities.
I think it would be political suicide for Nobama to change his VP selection. RSD makes a good point that he would make himself appear more reactionary than pro-active. A decision like this would just show how weak and phony he really is. He picked Joe because he thought he was the best for the job. He has stated so. If he picked Hillary now it would be painfully obvious that it is not because he felt she was the best pick for the country, just that he is desparate to win this election. I can only imagine Hillary answering the question with a long cackling laugh and then hanging up the phone without even giving him a verbal “NO”
He is so arogant. He thought he could do this without Hillary.
reliant,
Sorry you feel that way. Jill’s site is very thought provoking and I think her question of the day is no exception. I would hope that you decide to make a retraction of your post and apologize. I admire the smart intelligent bloggers that come to this site and as always admire Jill for her dedication and work to this issue.
Political suicide, Sandy? Then I think he should Go For It!! :)
Palin appointed her high school basketball coach to the Alaska Fish and Wildlife Board, and another of her friends to be AK Secretary of Agriculture, because she “liked cows as a child”.
Now that is standing up to cronyism!
Biden will not be dumped because Obama is too full of himself and too full of pride to admit he made a mistake.
Besides, he’s got to be thinking that really doesn’t need to because he thinks the race is still close and I am sure the Obama-Biden ticket is waiting for the McCain-Palin ticket to fumble. However, most of the the polls are left biased and are not really showing the true spread. The truth will only be known when the finals polls are shown so they can save face.
This too, there will be a major surprise that has not yet been revealed that will tank Obama once and for all that not even Hillary can save him from. I am sure Hillary knows about it and will not want to be associated with it once it comes out. I am not sure it will be used but you will know it when it happens. I’ll give you a hint……”Muslim”.
It may only be used if Iran puts on a major Iraqi offensive in October to try to sway the election. Mahmoud Ahmadinejad wants Obama in there because Obama is so weak minded. This would be an absolute fatal blow to Obama’s campaign as Iran really doesn’t understnand how Americans think. He thinks he can scare us. He can’t.
Obama needs Hillary, and Hillary doesn’t need Obama. Who wants to be the back-up prom date just because the first pick isn’t doing so well? Seems insulting to Hillary. Switching candidates paints Obama as indecisive and unprincipled.
News flash, kids! Hillary doesn’t want to be VP. She wants to be President.
Why on Earth would Hillary swap out for Biden in order to save Obama’s campaign? There is no gain for her in doing so. Let’s look at the alternatives if she takes the swap:
Obama/Clinton win in 2008 = Clinton can’t make her own run for the White House until 2016
Obama/Clinton lose in 2008 = Clinton is done; her image will be forever tarnished by the loss
If she stands pat:
Obama/Biden win in 2008 = Clinton can’t make her own run for the White House until 2016 (same as above)
Obama/Biden lose in 2008 = Clinton is the perfect choice for the Dems in 2012, and may even be assisted in the general election by Palin’s contribution toward breaking the glass ceiling (i.e. “You’ve seen a woman as VP, now try a woman as President!”)
Hillary will continue to speak & tour in support of Obama, but that’s all she will do. She would be a serious fool to go any further than that. No matter what you think of the Clintons’ ethics or policy positions, they definitely aren’t fools.
HisMan-
right now the big thing is (or was, as I believe the case is over) trying to prove Obama was not an American citizen and thus ineligible to run.
The next thing I can see in the wings is a supposed copy of his Hawaii school records that apparently say Islam as his religion. However, that should hold no bearing. Obama has said time and time again he was never a PRACTICING muslim.
School records do not make it so. Mine say I am a Catholic, whereas I do not consider myself a practicing Catholic.
Not to mention, it would’ve likely been less damaging to say he went to a mosque than have those viral tapes we’re all familiar with.
Obama tried to stall Iraq withdrawel until after the election! So he could take credit for it. What a bum.

New polling data shows Obama losing ground in the DEMOCRAT STRONGHOLDS OF NEW JERSEY AND NEW YORK. Holy cow…
http://hotair.com/archives/2008/09/15/is-new-york-in-play/
And Reality shouldn’t be so excited about the debates. Obama has never been in a real debate that actually mattered before; he won his last two elections pretty much by default.
Debate Moderator: Senator Obama, what do you think about (fill in the blank)?
Obama: Well, uh, you see, uh, hum, um, well, I think, that, uh, that John McCain is a liar, and, uh, I don’t like, uh, that Karl Rove politics, uh, no, I don’t… and uh, I really hm, think that we need hope. And, change.
Keith Olbermann: EXCELLENT ANSWER!!! SUPERB!!!!
Chris Matthews: I’ve never been so turned on!!!
Objective Journalists: What the heck kind of answer was that??
John, I saw Karl Rove on Fox yesterday jokingly complaining that he should get royalties everytime Obama mentions his name.
I’ve said before, and I’ll say again: Can we please drop the insubstantial smears against Obama? Was he a Muslim? Do I care?
By the way, does it seem inconsistent to anyone else that conservatives want to claim that Obama is a secret Muslim and taint him with Jeremiah Wright? If Obama is a secret Muslim, then his membership in Wright’s church was just part of his “cover” and shouldn’t matter. On the other hand, if Obama agreed with Wright, then he wasn’t a Muslim. Either way, the accusations are mutually exclusive.
Back to my point: Conservatives need to stick to substantive criticisms of Obama. If we dig up every possible smear, then the American people will tune out before the real criticisms can be discussed. We are already benefiting from this principle as it applies to Sarah Palin. Was Gov. Palin’s record really as good as it appears? Could there be any real skeletons in her closet to disqualify her from consideration? We’ll never know as long as the media is obsessed with made-up scandals about the Alaska Independence Party and supposed book-burning….
I’m a big Palin supporter, so I don’t think there’s actually anything wrong with her. My point is to encourage conservatives to consider how much we’ve benefited from the Left’s insane hatred of Sarah Palin. Yes, benefited. Every silly attack causes her poll numbers to improve. Keep throwing that slime, liberals!
Can we do the same thing to Obama? Yes we can! Silly attacks will only weaken us. Let’s stick to the substance.
Here’s the substance.
Obama is the most-liberal, least-experienced candidate for President in modern memory.
Obama supports the “right” to abortion into the fourth trimester, funded by taxpayer dollars.
Obama would weaken us against the terror threat.
Obama would bog down our country in even more government spending. Nationalized health insurance, anyone?
Obama has promised not to raise your taxes, although he will raise taxes for somebody. Just not you. Really.
Basically, Obama’s campaign is a rewind back to LBJ’s Great Society, only with better rhetoric.
The substantive points against Obama are plenty. Let’s not distract ourselves with the silly stuff.
Naaman, agreed!
amen, naaman!
Naaman,
Great points!
Doubt if Hillary now would want to be associated with a possible felon:
http://www.nypost.com/seven/09152008/postopinion/opedcolumnists/obama_tried_to_stall_gis_iraq_withdrawal_129150.htm
Possible violation of The Logan Act , a federal felony punishable up to three(3) years in prison
LTL,
Keep reading your leftist tablogs.
John,
Your post is hilarious! Thanks for the humor!
Carla,
Too funny! Again, great humor!
Off to campaign for my senate district!!! Later!
If Obama swapped out Biden for Hillary, first off it would make Fred Thompson a visionary who stated: “Joe Biden had better get the ‘VP thing’ in writing”.
Also, it would make Obama look weak, and impact in a very big way, the image of good judgment he’s been trying to cultivate, and I think many of the Hillary voters would see the blatant playing of them as rubes by using Hillary to counter the “other woman”. And there’s no guarantee that Hillary would go for it at this point. (She’s poised for 2012, and I’m sure she’d like to see Obama go down like the Hindenberg). Besides, Biden is nondescript. Hillary would energize the Republican base like nothing you’ve ever seen. When the bees are slumbering, it’s not a good idea to whack the hive and put those busy little bees to work. :)
PUMAs here… our response to your question can be seen in a video on our blog. EVERYONE needs to see it. It is an abbreviated “lesson” about what motivates PUMAs. After watching the video, you will know without being told what (most if not all) PUMAs will do if Obama replaces Senator Biden with Senator Clinton.
Democratic Presidential Candidate Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton strong armed by the corrupt DNC Leadership and the corrupt Chicago Political Machine’s very own Barack Hussein Obama. A sad, sad day for what was known as The Democratic Party, for All Women and for the United States of America.

I agree with reliant..he/she does not need to apologize. I am not sure the criticism was of Jill..but of the fly away comments that bloggers can get carried away with.
Thanks Naaman for being thought “forward”–Let’s keep our comments and blogs intelligent and “non-fox newsish..”
I think it may be more accurate now to say “non-MSNBC newsish”
KC, that is a very enlightening article.
Wow! KC,
That’s pretty intense. I’ve been reading a number of articles on this…wow.
Do you suppose that’s Jill’s big announcement?
Imagine getting rid of Pelosi, Jesse Jackson AND Obama all in one fell swoop!
“New polling data shows Obama losing ground in the DEMOCRAT STRONGHOLDS OF NEW JERSEY AND NEW YORK. Holy cow…”
thats good news John.
I am concerned that the Republican party did not push for Fox news to host one of the debates, yet we have PBS, CBS and NBC hosting them….I don’t know why they agreed to this.
Jasper @ 12:24 – the MSM meltdown on those networks is worth more to the Republicans. Their commentary does more to eliminate any positive reaction Obama might gain.
I’m wondering if the McCain/Palin campaign somehow contacted jill, that would certainly make things more interesting. We’d certainly have a lot more commenters as those who dont know search Google to try and find out who she is. But she did capitalize Big Announcement, which makes me think it might be something else. Don’t think she’d be able to wait this long if she was tagged by McCain/Palin somehow.
Dan,
Ahhh the mystery. It could be something as simple as she’s gonna be a Grandma again, to the news that Roe V Wade has been overturned! lol.
You’d think that moderators would get some perks and be let in on stuff…sheesh!
the suspense…..
MK,
You mean to tell me that YOU of all people don’t know what’s going down? You, Jill’s sidekick of 2 years?
You, the lead singer in Jill’s Amen Chorus??
You jest.
I know the news about Jill.
Obama is dropping Biden and picking Jill.
This will counter all that the selection of Palin has done for McCain.
Carder,
I kid you not…I’m seriously thinking of applying for a moderator position over at Amanda Marcottes!
After all, Amanda has such a big mouth, SHE couldn’t keep a secret!
YOU HEAR THAT JILL! I”M GETTING MY RESUME READY…
Obama and Jill…that would be hilarious. He thinks Michelle is tough!
mwahahahahahhaahahahah…!
Bwahahaha!
All Right Jill…that’s it. We’re all here.
Carder, Bobby, Hisman, Chris, Dan, Becky and MEEEEE!
Spill it sister, or face our wrath!!!
Me too!! :)
Me three.
Yeah! Carla’s here too!
Just for fun…while we wait…
Google Sarah Palin Baby Name Generator
If I were Sarah Palin’s daughter I would be
Stepper Choke Palin
http://politsk.blogspot.com/2008/09/sarah_13.html
Just call me Shoulder Frontier…but don’t ask me why!
Tape Boise Palin.
mk, I swear to you that this is true…
My name would be Mullet Troll Palin.
ROFL!!!!!!!!!!! Oh, wow, I needed that laugh. :D
ha ha…cheney wolfhound palin here!
i just found out that Palin is about 10 minutes from my house right now! it is an invitation only thing, guess i didn’t get mine in the mail :(
That’s NOT FAIR! I want to be Mullet Troll!!!!! I LOVE that name…cheater!
Becky,
That’s cuz they sent it to Cheney Wolfhound!
Kel,
What’s your real name? I can have my changed!
lol mk!
Switching out the Dem VP spot isn’t a good option for the Obama campaign. Barack would look like the poor decision maker he is and then there is the fact that he really doesn’t want HC and Bill as his career partners. Also, since he’s working the different than GWB mantra Hillary wouldn’t fit that story.
I’ve finally got word.
The PUMAs have been able to get to the DNC leadershp and are advocating that Jill now replace Obama as the nominee with MK as the VP.
Why might you ask? Because Jill is truly a community organizer and MK is the orignal govterminator.
It will be the JimK ticket.
The only thing that I could think would be better would be if Hal and SoMG accepted Christ. We can only pray.
Jill:
I’m warning you. You better not say that you just got a new car or something like that.
But HisMan, don’t you want ME to accept Christ?
*sad puppy face*
President MaryKay… indeed!
STILL no Big Announcement?
Sheesh, you better hurry up or I’ll be forced to go read some fascinating Microbiology.
Don’t make me do it.
Yes Erin if you haven’t accepted Christ as your personal Lord and Savior I urge you and every one who hasn’t to do so today.
2 Corinthians 6:2
For he says, “In the time of my favor I heard you, and in the day of salvation I helped you.” I tell you, now is the time of God’s favor, now is the day of salvation.
alright i am starting to think there is no big announcement and i should really go finish cleaning my stove!
As for the announcement – for some reason I keep thinking Biden is going to step down and Sebelius will be stepping in…
naw…
Lol, excuses excuses, Elizabeth!
great announcment, great new website! now back to cleaning the stove….
Good Heavens…I went away for 5 minutes and I’m now running for VP! I gotta go pick the kids up from school! I’m afraid to come back…you guys will have me as Empress.

Jill…we are officially no longer friends. I’m gonna miss this stinkin’ announcement and I’m maaaaaaadddddd…like the hatter in Alice!
gggggrrrrrrr….crazy mad!
C’mon Jill…pleaaaaaase?
President, MK. Not VP. Jill’s your VP.
Empress MK – has a certain…cachet, no?
Its funny. It’s like you want this country to revert to the 1980’s. A cold war here, deficit spending. Foreign Policy lies like Iran Contra. Not to mention an S&L crisis. Thats all John McCain turf. He’s so lobbied up that he’s like a politician on financial steroids. And you want to give him (or the “Foreign Policy Specialist” Sarah Palin) keys to the White House. Nice.
Yo,
Yo betcha!
“The only thing that I could think would be better would be if Hal and SoMG accepted Christ. We can only pray.”
Don’t hold your breath.
Yo La Tanga, I love how the left is acting like Gov. Palin said something different about our Russian foreign policy than either Obama or Biden. Of course, Gibson et. al did edit her words to make her seem more extreme and uneducated, but even so, she came out with a pretty universal stance.
But, the left screams COLD WAR II!!!
Jasper: “Unlike Obama, who has some really bad friends and worships Saul Alinsky and makes joke about how McCain can’t use a keyboard because of his war injuries. Really swell guy that Obama.”
Jasper, you’re lying again. McCain himself didn’t claim that he can’t use the keyboard due to injury – but that he isn’t tech savvy – he doesn’t understand it. And that’s what Obama’s ad highlighted – how McCain has no intellectual curiosity about technology, and therefore can’t know how it is changing our world.
Besides- with all his (wife’s) money, McCain can’t afford voice recognition software?”
Phyl, you’re lying again, just like your hero Barry.
“In certain ways, McCain was a natural Web candidate. Chairman of the Senate Telecommunications Subcommittee and regarded as the U.S. Senate’s savviest technologist, McCain is an inveterate devotee of email. His nightly ritual is to read his email together with his wife, Cindy. The injuries he incurred as a Vietnam POW make it painful for McCain to type. Instead, he dictates responses that his wife types on a laptop. “She’s a whiz on the keyboard, and I’m so laborious,” McCain admits.”
http://www.forbes.com/asap/2000/0529/053_print.html
mk, I’m not really all that fond of “Mullet Troll.” I’m not sure it’s “me.” :D
I hereby bequeath the “Mullet Troll” name to YOU!
Wear it proudly, Ms. President…er, Empress…whatever!
(I think that illustration you posted really looks a bit trollish!)
Abortion is the legalization of mothers killing their babies.
Obama calls himself a Christian yet he mocks the Bible in this quote below:
“Which passages of Scripture should guide our public policy? Should we go with Leviticus, which suggests slavery is ok and that eating shellfish is abomination? How about Deuteronomy, which suggests stoning your child if he strays from the faith? Or should we just stick to the Sermon on the Mount – a passage that is so radical that it’s doubtful that our own Defense Department would survive its application? So before we get carried away, let’s read our bibles. Folks haven’t been reading their bibles.”
And Obama says bitter people cling to religion. May the light of Jesus Christ shine upon his children here on earth and expose Obama for the phony that he is.
This bears repeating:
“In certain ways, McCain was a natural Web candidate. Chairman of the Senate Telecommunications Subcommittee and regarded as the U.S. Senate’s savviest technologist, McCain is an inveterate devotee of email. His nightly ritual is to read his email together with his wife, Cindy. The injuries he incurred as a Vietnam POW make it painful for McCain to type. Instead, he dictates responses that his wife types on a laptop. “She’s a whiz on the keyboard, and I’m so laborious,” McCain admits.”
OK.
You guys are going to jump on me for this, but it’s getting kind of ridiculous.
Reading e-mail does NOT make you technologically savvy. My parents can both read their e-mail, but tell them to cut and paste something and they freak out. My grandmother, who still uses an old-fashioned typewriter to write letters, can check her e-mail.
E-mail is like the equivalent of saying you can walk across a balance beam, so you’re an Olympic gymnast.
Erin, who has claimed that “reading e-mail” makes one “technologically savvy”? On the contrary, I think people have been arguing that because Mr. McCain is reported to be “technologically savvy,” he can perform so basic a job as using e-mail.
Phylosopher, who apparently needs to be told all these facts on account of his misinformation, also said, “McCain has no intellectual curiosity about technology, and therefore can’t know how it is changing our world.” But being “technologically savvy” doesn’t require “intellectual curiosity.” There are many people who are adept with technology but not philosopically inclined. The reverse is also true.
I have to laugh about technology. My dad worked for the IRS for 33 years and resisted the rise of computers to the end.
He loves to type on the computer for word-processing and has e-mail, but he’s so far from “technologically savvy” that it hurts.
McCain’s so old that I don’t doubt he’s just set in his ways to some extent, and I don’t see the problem as to his degree of savvy or not.
Erin: E-mail is like the equivalent of saying you can walk across a balance beam, so you’re an Olympic gymnast.
How about some of those old-time Wheaties commercials?
They made it sound like, “You too can be an Olympic athlete if you eat Wheaties… You don’t even have to train!”
