Yesterday afternoon TN Lt. Gov. Ron Ramsey (speaking in photo), who is also the Senate President and thus extremely powerful, held a press conference with 3 other pro-life legislators calling on colleagues to support a bill streaming the $1.1 million currently going Planned Parenthood’s way elsewhere. From the TN Right to Life press release…

In a dramatic show of pro-life leadership… Ramsey called on state legislators to move quickly on Senate Bill 470, a proposal which would make the funding of public health departments a priority in the awarding of governmental contracts for programs including family planning and other health services for women in need.
Renewed action on the proposal comes just days following release of video showing a Memphis Planned Parenthood abortion counselor coaching a supposed 14-year-old to lie to a judge about the age of her 31-year-old boyfriend. Additionally the video appears to show violations of state law which requires the immediate reporting of suspected cases of statutory rape and abuse of minors….
SB 470 would require a process by which local and county health departments would receive priority consideration before distributing tax funds to private organizations such as PP.

According to the In Session blog, SB 470, which had been stalled for 2 months, has now been placed on the 4/28 Public Health & Family Assistance subcommittee calendar.
Memphis PP prez Barry Chase whined to the Associated Press that the video was “highly edited.” But Barry isn’t claiming it’s false now, is he?
Yet that’s all Nashville Public Radio needed to report as a blanket statement the video was “highly edited.” Apparently public radio newswriters are so loyal to their broadcast medium they don’t watch t.v. or video. If they had viewed Lila’s video they would not have been able to write “highly edited.”
As Ramsey stated at the press conference, according to NPR:

“Whether it was fictitious or not, I think it just shows the slant that PP and their employees have, and the bias that they have, toward guiding someone to have an abortion.”
Ramsey says PP would have denied the video if it weren’t accurate.
