Jewish leaders launch anti-abortion campaign; “Our enemies are multiplying”
Next week’s Torah reading will begin the book of Exodus.
In conjunction with the treasured story in Exodus 1 of the brave Hebrew midwives who saved babies rather than killed them as ordered by Pharaoh, Israel’s chief rabbis are launching a campaign against Jewish self-extermination: abortion.
The Jewish pro-life group Efrat estimates 50k Israeli children are killed by abortion annually, 30k of which are illegal.
The rabbis say this plays into the enemy’s hands, according to the Jerusalem Post on December 29…
Chief Ashkenazi Rabbi Metzger told The Jerusalem Post that it was important to encourage fertility and discourage abortions, in part, to fight a demographic war. “I am sorry to say that our enemies are multiplying,” said Metzger….
Rabbis have a role in encouraging their communities to have children and to discourage abortions. It is the best weapon against our enemies,” Metzger said….
Furthermore, abortion delays redemption, according to the rabbis:
Reference made in the rabbis’ letter to the connection between abortions and the final redemption is based on the Babylonian Talmud in Tractate Niddah which states that each baby that is born brings the redemption closer. “The redemption does not take place until all the souls are brought out of their storing place,” states the Talmud.
Rabbis “are urged to devote their Shabbat sermon next week… to emphasizing the severe halachic prohibition against abortions,” according to The Post. They are also urging the distribution of pro-life literature.
Of course, there is Jewish dissent, which in my mind is inexplicable given Jewish history, particularly 20th Century. But here goes:
Irit Rosenblum, head of New Family, an organization fighting to prevent religious influence in marital and birth issues, said the rabbinate’s initiative constituted blatant intervention by men in women’s decisions regarding their bodies.
“You have bunch of men, who do not allow women to participate in their gatherings, who are telling women what to do with their bodies,” said Rosenblum. “Why are they interfering? Do they think a woman does not know how to decide on her own what she does with her body?”

Jill Stanek is a nurse turned speaker, columnist and blogger, a national figure in the effort to protect both preborn and postborn innocent human life.
You just don’t get it, do you ‘Idiot’ Rosenblum? It’s not a WOMAN’S body we’re talking about. A baby is a completely SEPARATE body from his/her mother. Just because a baby is IN the mother’s body doesn’t mean the baby is OF the mother’s body. A baby is an INDIVIDUAL HUMAN BEING, not an internal organ.
Irit Rosenblum’s “arguments” are just warmed over abortionist fallacies which were refuted about 40 years ago and continuously ever since. ALL laws tell us what we can do with our bodies.
Abortionists want to destroy the lives and bodies of their children. It is unfortunate that people insist on killing their children for the sake of their self-interest, but as long as they do we will have to fight this fight.
I have said it before that true Christians and Jews cannot support unlimited killing of human beings made in the image of God.
Ms. Rosenblum is right in saying that Orthodox Jews do not treat women as equals, and I do have a problem with this. I also have a problem with the treatment of the Palestinians in Israel and the rabbi’s comments about how “our enemies are multiplying.”
But it always puzzles me why Jews are generally very pro-abortion. Their population has never been very large in the first place, and was decimated during the Holocaust. The Jewish population here in the U.S. is not at replacement level, and there is a high rate of intermarriage (according to the strict interpretation of Jewish law, you are not Jewish unless your mother is Jewish). Israel has become the “abortion capitol of the Middle East,” the Israeli army will even pay for abortions. It’s very sad.
It never ceases to amaze me how evil the heart of man can be. All these women fighting, arguing for the right to murder their own children, their own children, in their own womb.
And then the men, encouraging their partners to abort, threatening bodily harm, even killing their “lovers” if they don’t kill their baby, their own flesh and blood. There was another one in the news the other day. It almost doesn’t seem like new any more.
The world has become so evil. If you look back at classic movies of the 40’s and 50’s, you see an innocence and an absence of corruption. There is a level of respect, morality and goodness that is apparent.
So much of today’s “entertainment” comes right out of the sewer.
The “abort-speak” is despicable. Over at that NARAL site they call Carhart a Champion for Women’s Health. HE IS A SERIAL KILLER, A MASS MURDERER, AND 1/2 OF HIS VICTIMS ARE WOMEN!
God is so merciful, but His Day of Vengence is coming. He will not allow the slaughtering of His innocents to continue with impunity.
He’s pouring out His Spirit down in Kansas City (IHOP.org). Young women, victims of sexual abuse are being set free from guilt, shame, suicidal thoughts and self-hatred. It looks a little kookie but you can’t argue with the results.
And they really, really love Jesus.
Think of all the Jewish babies who, had they been murdered, how different the world would be.
Moses and Jesus come to mind immediately. It is no coincidence that in both cases, the government and its leadership wanted these future spiritual giants to be murdered.
Does this give anyone a clue as to who pulls the strings of government in an attempt to defeat God’s purposes? Satan comes to mind as so well expressed in this scripture:

11Put on the full armor of God so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes. 12For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. 13Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand.”
Is Barack Obama knowingly or unknowingly letting Satan usurp his power? If knowingly, then Barack Obama is inherently evil. If unknowingly, he is sadly incompetent. Either way, he does not deserve to be President of this Christian nation. These Jewish rabbis are correct, abortion does delay but will not prevent the coming of the Messiah and God have mercy on anyone that gets in the way of God’s plan.
Each one of us must choose whom we serve in this life. If we are not serving God, by default, we are serving the devil.
Abortion and everything associated with it is the work of Satan, Lucifer, who by his rebellion convinced 1/3 of heaven’s angel’s to fall.
“As for me and my house, we will serve the Lord”.
In the context of this post this is what I believe God thinks about abortion:
Abortion is an affront to the creative nature of God, it negates God as Creator,
Abortion denies the power of God to right a wrong, it negates God as Redeemer,
Abortion makes that which is good, the birth of human life, into that which is evil, the death of human life, and then calls it good, the very definition of blasphemy,
Abortion negates the resurrection power of God as it takes flesh that is alive in it’s earthly abode (the womb) and kills it, while God takes that flesh which is dead in it’s earthly abode (the grave) and desires to make it alive,
Abortion’s desire is to take that which was composed from the chaotic array of elemental molecules into a symphony of life infused with an eternal soul, and turn it back to the entropy of randomness, chaos, nothingness, uselessness.
Abortion is against all that is hopeful, all that requires faith for success; for it’s solution; annihilation, it’s goal; death, it’s dream; breaking God’s heart, it’s vision, Satan’s ultimate power.
Abortion is a counterfeit, for the clawprints of Satan are everywhere to be found in its performance;
Abortion disguises hate as love, bondage as freedom, choice as maturity, sin as righteousness, political correctness as wisdom,
Abortion pits men against women, mothers against their children, fathers against God, Yes, abortion is Satan’s feeble attempt at killing God Himself, for abortion is a metaphor for Satan; it is his coat of arms, his family crest, his logo, his brand, it belongs to him……for he laughs at its willing proponents as they craft their own self-destruction, mantled in self-deception.

Ed, what an insightful and Christ-honoring comment. Very well said. My heart breaks every day for the men, women and children being harmed by the abortion/death culture of this world and I long more each day for the Lord’s return when He will bring justice and truth to all. Until then, each of us must continue to do what we can, while we can, to demonstrate His love and mercy and show the lost world the joy of His salvation.
I was astounded when I saw a Jewish friend on Facebook was a supporter of embryonic stem cell research done by a Jewish women’s organization named Hadassah. As everyone above has said, with the history of the Jewish people over the centuries, with different governments either kicking them out or exterminating them, you would think every Jewish embryo would be precious! And what about that requirement that Jews marry only Jews? Isn’t that about preserving the Jewish blood?
I just don’t get it.
Than again, the Old Testament is replete with stories of the Jewish people forgetting their history. :(
Peg, it’s not just the Jewish people who forget their history. All these African American leaders who are so pro-abortion forget how throughout American history we have been thought of as being disposable and less than human. Just look at the history of medical experimentation in this country. At one time slave (and Native American) women were operated on WITHOUT ANESTHESIA as it was thought that they couldn’t feel pain like whites could. Imagine the agony these women went through.

I think they all sold their souls for “30 pieces of silver” like Judas Iscariot. Follow the money,it is all about “show me the money”, the billions of dollars made and the millions donated to political campaigns by PP, NARAL, Emily’s List, etc. The Maafa DVD exposes the blood money trail, the eugenic, Margaret “the unfit, human weeds” Sanger connection. I continue to pray for these people’s eyes to be opened, like Abby Johnson’s (the ex-PP director) eyes were opened.

If he really cared about her, he would tell her the truth about what she is really carrying inside of her. Is this not a “blatant intervention” to not allow this woman in on the truth to make an informed decision?

Not that all men are evil, just that most evil men take advantage of women.

Phil…your post just confused me(lol). I agree with you…they ARE ‘wolves’. I don’t spend my time telling abortionists anything, because I don’t live near any, or know any personally. I spend my time raising my precious child that God has gifted me with. :)
Enemy of Whom?
When Rabbi Metzger says, “our enemies are multiplying” the “enemies” he refers to are Arab Muslims. Your comment, just before his quote, was “The rabbis say this plays into the enemy’s hands.”
Please tell me that I’ve misunderstood you! I got the impression from this column that you were conflating the “Enemies of the State of Israel” with the “Enemies of the Unborn”. Surely that can’t be what you mean!
Arab Muslim women are in the ethnic group that is just about the least likely of any to abort their children. If anything, I would commend Arab Muslims for being FRIENDS to the unborn and FRIENDS to the Pro-Life cause worldwide.
Women around the world should look to their Arab Muslim sisters as exemplars of respectful motherhood. Rabbi Metzger ought to propose that Jewish women learn from them.

Hmm. . . I have a problem with the Christian Right’s blind support of Israel. Although I do believe that this country has a right to exist, by the same token, I do think that the Palestinians are mistreated, as are other groups there, and this is something that many Christians ignore. I had a professor in college — a fair-skinned, Polish Jew — who told the class that the darker-skinned you are there, the worse you are treated. Ethiopians and Arab minorities are not treated well there. Yet if anyone criticizes Israel, they are immediately branded as being anti-Semitic. This may be true in some cases, but not in mine, as my daughter has a Jewish father.
