The Statement reads…
We, concerned Filipinos from all walks of life, who uphold, respect and protect the dignity and quality of human life from natural conception (fertilization) to natural death, and the natural institutions of marriage and the family, hereby express our solidarity with the people participating in the January 22, 2010 March for Life in Washington, D.C., USA.

Although abortion is illegal, abortion services are available to those who seek it. It’s usually in the form of an abortion pill sold in the streets…
Presidential elections are happening this year and I am glad that the one who is favored to win is a man who has great morals and who is absolutely pro-life.
We have over 100 Philipine saints in our church.Many came for nursing and teaching.
My neighbor is a Filipino pastor. I don’t know his politics, but I would think a picture like this would make him proud.

Jill, I think this blog-bit is great. Philippines, like many countries have been ‘aided’ by UN programs. Some of these programs, disguised as ‘relief’ are the propagation of contraception and such. Mostly catholics, the Philippine culture has maintained its pro-life stance though increasing encroachment of the secular liberalism is rampant. Dale O’Leary in her book The Gender Agenda discusses this in further detail. “Mabuhay”!!

From what I understand, BIOETHICS classes (based on the Theology of the Body) are also an elective in most of the private (Catholic) schools and Universities there.
For everyone’s info, the Filipino people are certainly a pro-life people; but their so-called “favored” presidential aspirant is NOT. Senator Noynoy Aquino rests on the laurels of his late very pro-life mother, Cory Aquino; but his personal politics, if he has any at all, – are allied with the Philippine Legislator’s Committee on Population and Development (PLCPD) which is the USAID-funded NGO fronting Philippine senators and congressmen to push the first-world Reproductive Health agenda on a hapless Philippine populace. Senator Noynoy Aquino is definitely NOT pro-life. In presidential debates and fora, he defends his position and support for the controversial Reproductive Health bill touted by the PLCPD. He argues that his consultation with his Jesuit mentors leads him to favor this measure – for lots of reasons like contraception ain’t that bad, we do have a population problem, people have their consciences anyway, Catholics should just preach to their own and let others do as they please, etc. etc. If he wins as the Philippines’ next president (which does seem likely as of now) the global Reproductive Health agenda will advance in leaps and bounds, and we pro-lifers will just find ourselves in the toilet. This would be the first time the Philippines ever had a self-proclaimed anti-lifer as president. His predecessor, Arroyo, is outwardly pro-life. Her predecessor, Estrada, didn’t know nor care what pro-life was. His predecessor, Ramos, played it safe and gave no definite position. His predecessor, Cory Aquino, was definitely pro-life. If only the Philippine electorate (pro-life as it is) would choose their preferred candidates based on their position on life, rather than the showbiz pizzazz, party affiliation, etc.

2010 is a critical election year in the Philippines. Many anti-life congressmen and senators are standing running for re-election or for new positions. Please pray that more pro-life legislators and administrators will be elected this year to offset the attacks on the family and human life from the culture of death camp.

Yes, we are a life-respecting, family-oriented people. And it takes a lot to put a dent on our faith in God. But then some can take this faith for granted.
While human life is regarded as precious here — and babies/children are very much loved; the elderly are reverenced — we need to be vigilant that young folks remain firm in their conviction that every human life is primarily a gift and a blessing. Also, that we don’t play God in choosing who lives and who doesn’t, in making up our own rules regarding the institution of marriage (being for 1 man and 1 woman, being a lifetime commitment, among other things).
