Planned Parenthood: Healthcare passage will “significantly increase access to reproductive health care”; exec order “a symbolic gesture”
Now it all comes out. It didn’t take long for Planned Parenthood CEO Cecile Richards to revel in PP’s financial gain from passage of healthcare in a Planned Parenthood statement just released. Note also Richards’ dismissal of Obama’s executive order….
For more than a year, PP has worked tirelessly for a health care reform bill that would fix our broken health care system, strengthen women’s health, and achieve quality, affordable health care for all Americans.
Today, monumental progress was made toward achieving these goals with the passage of historic health care reform legislation by the U.S. House of Representatives, despite a symbolic gesture, in the form of an Executive Order, to anti-choice Congressman Bart Stupak (D-MI), which has diverted attention from the central goal of health care reform – controlling costs and extending coverage.
As a trusted health care provider to millions of women and families across the country, Planned Parenthood applauds the fact that this legislation would extend health care coverage, including family planning, to tens of millions of women and families, guarantee access to affordable life-saving screenings for cervical and breast cancer and other serious health problems, protect women against gender discrimination by private insurers, end the practice of dropping coverage because of pre-existing conditions, and significantly increase access to reproductive health care.
The proposal also includes a commonsense provision to expand family planning under Medicaid, which would significantly increase access to essential preventive health care for millions of women….
Nonetheless, we regret that a pro-choice president of a pro-choice nation was forced to sign an Executive Order that further codifies the proposed anti-choice language in the health care reform bill, originally proposed by Senator Ben Nelson of Nebraska.
What the president’s executive order did not do is include the complete and total ban on private health insurance coverage for abortion that Congressman Bart Stupak (D-MI) had insisted upon. So while we regret that this proposed Executive Order has given the imprimatur of the president to Senator Nelson’s language, it is critically important to note that it does not include the Stupak abortion ban.
Thanks, Bart Stupak, you foolish man.

significantly increase access to essential preventive health care
Which can now include abortion, thanks to the Mikulski amendment.
Oh he knew exactly what he was doing.
A good quote from a facebook friend:
” “At first, I kept wondering how it could be possible that the educated, the cultured, the famous men of the world could make a mistake of this size and preach, as righteousness, this sort of abomination – when five minutes of thought should have told them what would happen if somebody tried to practice what they preach…ed. Now I know they didn’t do it by any kind of mistake…Mistakes of this size are never made innocently. If men fall for some vicious piece of insanity, when they have no way to make it work and no possible reason to explain their choice – it’s because they have a reason that they do not wish to tell.”
Wow. I cannot understand why Bart Stupak did this. What did he achieve? Even Planned Parenthood knows the EO is worthless and does NOTHING to restrict federal funding of abortion…
“What the president’s executive order did not do is include the complete and total ban on private health insurance coverage for abortion that Congressman Bart Stupak (D–MI) had insisted upon.”
-Cecile Richards PPA President
Did he not know this??
These are Jeremiah’s words to Israel found in Chapter 7:30=34:
“Jeremiah 7:30-34 (New Living Translation)
The Valley of Slaughter
30 “The people of Judah have sinned before my very eyes,” says the Lord. “They have set up their abominable idols right in the Temple that bears my name, defiling it. 31 They have built pagan shrines at Topheth, the garbage dump in the valley of Ben-Hinnom, and there they burn their sons and daughters in the fire. I have never commanded such a horrible deed; it never even crossed my mind to command such a thing! 32 So beware, for the time is coming,” says the Lord, “when that garbage dump will no longer be called Topheth or the valley of Ben-Hinnom, but the Valley of Slaughter. They will bury the bodies in Topheth until there is no more room for them. 33 The bodies of my people will be food for the vultures and wild animals, and no one will be left to scare them away. 34 I will put an end to the happy singing and laughter in the streets of Jerusalem. The joyful voices of bridegrooms and brides will no longer be heard in the towns of Judah. The land will lie in complete desolation.”
Here’s a modern day parallel:
“The people of America have sinned before my very eyes,” says the Lord. “They have set up their abominable idols right in the Church that bears my name, defiling it. They have built pagan shrines at Washington, DC, the garbage dump in the valley of Northeast, and there Planned Parenthood conspires to murder, mutilate, and decapitate their sons and daughters in abortion mills. I have never commanded such a horrible deed; it never even crossed my mind to command such a thing! So beware, for the time is coming,” says the Lord, “when that garbage dump will no longer be called Washington, DC or the capital of the United States, but the Valley of Slaughter. They will bury the bodies in the Potomac until there is no more room for them. The bodies of my people will be food for the vultures and wild animals, and no one will be left to scare them away. I will put an end to the happy singing and laughter in the halls of Congress. The joyful voices of bridegrooms and brides will no longer be heard in the towns of America. The land will lie in complete desolation.
Maybe instead of blaming Stupak, we should blame Republicans for not having more of themselves in the House. Stupak would have remained obscure had that been the case. He’s a DEMOCRAT. He put up some kind of a fight, at least. All Democrats claim to personally be “pro-life” but they’re pro-choice on policy. At least he tried.
Republicans and pro-lifers alike are pathetic.
Nate Sheets: You are ignorant and a consummate example of people in this country who can’t think for themselves. Enjoy your Obamacare gift and I hope you think of dead and mutilated babies every time you go under a surgeon’s knife whining to God that He doesn’t do to you what all your pro-deathers do to unborn children. It is not we who are pathetic.
Video of Stupak saying he would vote YES all along.
http://www.tcunation.com/forum/topics/video-stupak-lying-all-along.
The lesson here is never believe a Democrat, ever. This circus proved this. They are all liars.
Phil: I was not for Obamacare nor am I pro-choice, so you can kiss my gay pro-life ass.
My point is that the Republican party is a joke. I mean, we ran McCain and Palin. What can we expect?
Good eye, Narobi. Added that paragraph.
Nate, he didn’t finish the race.
Again Nate:
You are an abomination.
If you are gay you are not pro-life for you cannot “be fruitful and multiply” and are in rebellion toward your Creator. If you are pro-life it is not because you respect God, it’s more like bineg involved with PETA, i.e., some sentimental BS.
And obvioulsy somebody else is doing more than kissing your ass.
I suggest you repent on your knees before a holy God.
And befoer I tell you what I really think get off the mindless “blame Palin” train. She’s got more character in her lifeless spectacles than you have in your nuts.
“the IRS will be Planned Parenthood’s cashier”

Phil, just so you know, whenever they talk about Gehenna/the Valley of Hinnom in the Bible they ARE referring to abortion. Gehenna was a valley just outside the gates of Jerusalem, where there was a shrine to Molech/Baal. At that shrine they sacrificed the born and unborn on an altar, cutting them up and passing them through fire. In the case of the unborn, they would rip open the mothers and to take the child out.
After the sacrifice, they would throw the bodies in a trash heap outside, where the burnt bodies would rot. The place smelled of burning sulfur. That’s how Gehenna became known as another word for Hell in the Jewish language. It was full of the most awful abominations, and was everything the Lord ordered the Jewish people to not take part in. It was the most sinful place, the complete absence of God.
Also, just because someone doesn’t match up to Christian ideals doesn’t mean that they can’t be pro-life. In fact, there are a few pro-lifers on this site that are not Christian. The pro-life community is made up of many people from many different other communities. Being pro-life isn’t just a Christian thing. I’m guessing you’ve never heard of the Atheist and Agnostic Pro-Life League, SecularProlife.org, the Pro-Life Alliance of Gays and Lesbians, the Jewish Pro-Life Foundation, or Pagans for Life. I don’t think that dividing the pro-life movement by religion is going to get us anywhere. I may be Catholic, but I see life as civil right rather than a religious issue. You may argue all you want, but at the end of the day, does it really matter who it is who saves the life of a child who is being led to the slaughter? I would think that just the fact that the child’s life has been saved would be the thing that’s important.

Amy – If the hell you speak of outside Jerusalem was unimaginably horrible, imagine eternity in such a place – not dead, but alive – knowing Life, but unable to be with Him.
If all knew the Lord and were obedient to Him – would there be any abortion?
Nate is right. We can blame Republicans for this disaster also. John McCain and Sarah Palin? That was a joke.
And can this not devolve into gay bashing, Phil? Pro-life comes in all stripes as this board frequently shows (and I’ll take all the support we can get).
I hope the Republicans are thinking long and hard about who will run in upcoming elections.
Nerina 7:13am
An excellent post,I couldn’t agree more. While I like Sarah Palin, McCain the “moderate” who was everybody’s friend was a joke. Maybe that will be a lesson to those who say Republicans need more moderates! Like it or not,Republicans indeed abandoned their conservative principles and they, and our country, paid a price.
I like seeing Republicans in my state say they are running as conservatives! They’ve finally grown some onions.
Also, the PL movement is made up of people of all stripes and I’m distressed as well Nerina that we are being reduced to gay bashing. I may not share Phil’s religious convictions but it is no excuse for vicious attacks on him or his beliefs by me or anyone else. We are not all going to agree all the time. That’s what makes this site interesting. A mutual admiration board would be a colossal bore.
Phil,
I respect your beliefs but please keep in mind not on all this board share them. Vicious attacks only demean all of us and perpetuate the stereotype of PL people as right wing, narrow minded, religious bigots. Do you not think our opponents greatly enjoy such displays?
Lesson for me: Never vote for a Democrat. Ever.
There are two main reasons that a pro-lifer should never vote for a Democrat:
1) Pro-life Democrats are not especially trustworthy. They are Democrats first, and pro-lifers second … if at all.
2) Even the most pro-life Democrat is still a vote for Nancy Pelosi to remain Speaker of the House and/or Harry Reid to remain as Senate Majority Leader. By voting for a Democrat, pro-lifers are actually supporting a Democratic leadership which has proven itself to be virulently anti-life.
Conclusion: Until the Democratic Party drops its anti-life agenda, no pro-lifer should ever vote for a Democrat.
Phil: Nuns and priests aren’t being fruitful and multiplying either. Does that mean they can’t be pro-life?
Nate didn’t choose to be gay. It’s not like he woke up one morning and said, “Hey, I’m going to decide to be attracted to men!” I didn’t choose to be bisexual either – and before you assume I go around promiscuously sleeping with everyone, I’ve never had a relationship with a woman and I’ve been with the same man for over seven years. (I’m female.) I’m still bisexual because I still have an attraction to women.
Even if you think homosexuality is a sin, do you really think the pro-life movement can afford to alienate people? Being rude to gay pro-lifers might not make them become pro-choice, but it might make them think, “Yeah, like I’d ever want to work with YOU on anything.”
Having said that, Nate, I really like Sarah Palin. She’s been charicatured (sp) by the media because they’re threatened by the fact that she doesn’t care what they think about her, but the woman herself, separated from the mockery by her detractors, is smart, tough, and the only living politician I’ve ever gotten excited about (as opposed to thinking, “Okay, this one is the better one, I guess.”) Saying your fellow pro-lifers are pathetic isn’t helpful. It doesn’t advance anything and it just leads to a bunch of pointless infighting.
I get a kick out of Cecile Richards saying Obama was “forced” to sign the executive order. Kind of insulting, don’t you think? Poor wittle ‘Bama couldn’t stand up for himself, he got forced to sign the big bad order by meanie Stupak. Give me a break.
Thank you Marauder,
I have a nephew I suspect is gay. There is not a more devoted son, brother, uncle, nephew or grandson who walks this planet.
He works hard, owns a home, pays his taxes, and lives a law abiding life.
He can find time for his widowed grandmother, be a devoted son and good friend to his divorced father, who has been rejected by his two daughters, and can find the time to visit his broken down old aunt (me) when she arrives in town.
Phil may regard him as an abomination, I regard him as one of the finest young men to walk this planet.
First…I agree with Nate. McCain was an absolute joke. He really was…there was so much he could have called Obama out on the carpet for but he ran a wussy campaign.
That being said…Phil don’t let people discourage you. The Bible is clear that homosexuality is a sin. If God “made” someone that way wouldn’t it be very cruel for God to then turn around and say the way He made them is a sin? Think about it! Thats one cruel God who MAKES someone homosexual and then says homosexuality is an ABOMINATION to Him.
Interesting thing too from history…in ancient cultures homosexual practices went hand in hand with child sacrifice. Sin is sin. God forgives those who repent. Those who hold on to their sin will not be forgiven. We are ALL sinners and guilty. God can forgive ANY of us. I know because God has forgiven me! I didn’t deserve it, but He forgave me anyhow!
WOW! This is pure evil. Darkness reveling in darkness. Let’s keep up the good fight. Thanks for all you do Jill.
Sydney M,
I’m not trying to discourage Phil. As I have pointed out I support and respect his right to his beliefs, as I do yours.
I do not support personal attacks on other PL people on this board. I think this only promotes the stereotype of PL people as bigoted, narrow minded religious fanatics. Our opponents enjoy nothing more than to read this.
I find these attacks on gay PL people as offensive as I would racial, ethnic, and religious slurs. We don’t have to love and agree with each other, but we don’t have to attack each other either. I can find someone’s religious beliefs absurd, but I can still respect that person’s right to exercise them and simply hold my tongue.
The sinfulness of homosexuality is off-topic and a distraction from the cause of Life. Of all time in our nation’s history, now is not the time for pro-lifers to get distracted. Save lives first!
Naaman,
Amen and thank you.
The Apostle Paul said, “For though I am ?free from all men, ?I have made myself a servant to all, ?that I might win the more; and ?to the Jews I became as a Jew, that I might win Jews; to those who are under the law, as under the ?law, that I might win those who are under the law…??to the weak I became ?as weak, that I might win the weak. ?I have become all things to all men, ?that I might by all means save some. 1 Co 9:19-22
Me and Nate have two great things in common: we’re both Pro-Life, and we’re both sinners. And I agree, the Republican party could have done better than McCain last election. Not that I don’t like McCain, it’s just that when you’re electing the leader of the free world, I think we could have done better.
As far as Nate’s personal life, that can be a topic of discussion for another venue, another board.
We all have sins we deal with.
We all need God’s Mercy and Grace.
As far as this board is concerned, this War, Nate is my brother-in-arms.
And so is Phil.
I like how the Message puts it:
Even though I am free of the demands and expectations of everyone, I have voluntarily become a servant to any and all in order to reach a wide range of people: religious, nonreligious, meticulous moralists, loose-living immoralists, the defeated, the demoralized—whoever. I didn’t take on their way of life. I kept my bearings in Christ—but I entered their world and tried to experience things from their point of view. I’ve become just about every sort of servant there is in my attempts to lead those I meet into a God-saved life. I did all this because of the Message. I didn’t just want to talk about it; I wanted to be in on it! 1 Co 9:19-23
I propose that a mod delete some of the stronger comments above, let’s regroup like any good company of soldiers, turn our aggression toward the enemy of preborn children and get back in this fight!
Ed,
Amen and thank you.
None of us qualifies for sainthood.
Mary, I too have a sister who a suspect is gay, and have gay friends, coworkers, etc. Please keep the anti-gay stuff off this board, folks! Thanks.
I didn’t vote for McCain in the primaries..I voted for Mike Huckabee. When it came time for the Election, I didn’t have much choice. A vote for McCain was one LESS for Obama. To not vote at all would be one MORE for Obama. Unfortunately, McCain was just “the lesser of the two evils”.
“Of all time in our nation’s history, now is not the time for pro-lifers to get distracted.”
Seriously!
I truly don’t care if people want to believe that homosexuality is a sin. This is America and we get to believe what we want to believe. I just think it’s A) counterproductive and B) unkind to go around telling people that they’re abominations – not even that their sin (as some see it) is an abomination, but that *they themselves* are abominations.
Anyway…
All of Cecile Richards’ talk about how now more women will be able to have cancer screenings is just to distract from the main issues. The majority of Americans didn’t want this bill passed and it’s unethical to force people to pay for something they consider immoral. It’s kind of like “Mussolini made the trains run on time.” Yes, isn’t it nice that the trains run on time…but he’s still Mussolini, for God’s sake.
Mary…I agree. I mean, I don’t know Nate. He’s probably a really nice guy. I thank him for his stand for life. I have gay friends who I love dearly and they are hysterical and fun and we have a great time together but they know I do not condone their sexual sin.
That being said, I took it as attacking Phil’s stand which I agree with. But I do agree lets not be nasty.
I just watched “The Passion of the Christ”…and you got it! NONE of us qualifies for sainthood. We are all wretched, vile, sinners. I am just so overcome with the love our Lord has for each one of us and the forgiveness He offers us. The agony He suffered on our behalf…it just fills my heart and I cannot even wrap my head around it. I wish everyone would experience the love and forgiveness of Christ. It is amazing!
Phil,
What the hell? Why are you attacking Nate?
Have you ever read anything that he’s written? Try it sometime. He’s funny. He’s intelligent. And he has a good heart and he wants to listen to others.
At the risk of getting myself banned, I have to say it: if it weren’t for your name on this blog, I wouldn’t have known that you’re a Christian. You quote the Bible but God knows that you don’t listen to it.
I think Phil misunderstood Nate’s initial post, which like emails are commonly misunderstood by the reader.
And it went downhill pretty fast after that.
Anybody like me ever allow their tongue to get them in trouble?
“We all stumble in many ways. If anyone is never at fault in what he says, he is a perfect man, able to keep his whole body in check. When we put bits into the mouths of horses to make them obey us, we can turn the whole animal. Or take ships as an example. Although they are so large and are driven by strong winds, they are steered by a very small rudder wherever the pilot wants to go. Likewise the tongue is a small part of the body, but it makes great boasts. Consider what a great forest is set on fire by a small spark. The tongue also is a fire, a world of evil among the parts of the body. It corrupts the whole person, sets the whole course of his life on fire, and is itself set on fire by hell. All kinds of animals, birds, reptiles and creatures of the sea are being tamed and have been tamed by man, but no man can tame the tongue. It is a restless evil, full of deadly poison. With the tongue we praise our Lord and Father, and with it we curse men, who have been made in God’s likeness. Out of the same mouth come praise and cursing. My brothers, this should not be. Can both fresh water and salt?a? water flow from the same spring? My brothers, can a fig tree bear olives, or a grapevine bear figs? Neither can a salt spring produce fresh water. Jas 3:2-12
Wow. I cannot understand why Bart Stupak did this. What did he achieve?
He got to appear on Fox News a lot, and achieve more than the standard 15 minutes of fame. Perhaps Rachel Maddow was correct when she brought that up weeks ago.
Vannah…no offense. I guess you are saying Phil isn’t right cause he is judging..but look at you! You’re judging Phil…so you’re being just like him, right?
Lets all just chill now. Enough already.
Sydney spake thusly:
Vannah…no offense. I guess you are saying Phil isn’t right cause he is judging..but look at you! You’re judging Phil…so you’re being just like him, right?
What? Now you’re judging Vannah! How dare you judge?! Who made you the Judge of the Internetz?!?! FREE SPEACH!!1!!11
(sarcasm off)
You’re right, of course. Judging someone else for being judgmental is a self-defeating argument. It’s like claiming that your brother is an only child. Um, nice try…. :)
Back on topic:
The hearty congratulations from Planned Parenthood should warm Stupak’s heart. Ah, yes … congratulations, Bart! You got your fig-leaf Executive Order, your fifteen minutes of fame, and some nice airport pork.
Only now, everyone knows that you’re a fake. You’re exposed as a liar and a fraud for all of the world to see. I hope the price for your soul was high, because you only get to sell out once….
Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me. I don’t plan to be shamed again.
No. More. Democrats.
HCR includes School Based Health Clinics (SBHC) So Planned Parenthood will now have access 2 kids via public schools
What can we do to stop that from happening? There is no way perverted Planned Parenthood should be around any school let alone providing medical care for kids.
I will tweeting links on twitter about why we shouldnt. We know that PP cover up for child sexual predators & are fighting for sexual rights for kids. I believe it has to do with the Alfred Kinsey’s perverted research. The links I will tweet decribes the perversion of his research & the connection to Planned Parenthood. Because of the content I wont be posting the links here.
Vannah:
Coming from you that’s a compliment.
You don’t have a clue what it means to be a Christian but only a fuzzy-wuzzy, touchy-feely impression of how you think they should be.
Phil, I may be wrong, but I do believe Vannah is still a child…
