Stupak announces $726,409 for airports in Alpena, Delta, and Chippewa Counties
In IL politics nothing is as it seems, and a vote is rarely cast for the merits of the bill. That’s my baseline.
I’m not accusing Bart Stupak of anything. Congresspersons may get grants all the time. But from my experience, you never know. Just passing along this information for balance. There’s always stuff going under the surface in politics.
U.S. Congressman Bart Stupak (D-Menominee) announced three airports in northern Michigan have received grants totaling $726,409 for airport maintenance and improvements. The funding was provided by the U.S. Department of Transportation Federal Aviation Administration….
“This federal funding will help these airports better provide critical services to communities in northern Michigan,” Stupak said. “I am pleased the FAA has made this investment in our local airports and the individuals and businesses they serve.”
Alpena County Regional Airport received a grant of $85,500 to acquire friction measuring equipment, specifically a decelermeter and tow vehicle, to replace equipment that has worn out.
Delta County Airport in Escanaba received a grant of $179,209 to install a 10 foot perimeter fence to enhance security and prevent wildlife from entering the airport.
The Chippewa County International Airport near Sault Ste. Marie received a grant of $461,700 to install lighted signs on Runway 16/34 and make repairs to the pavement to meet marking requirements and maintain structural integrity.
This funding is provided to the FAA through the regular federal appropriations process and is awarded through competitive grants.

I’m not accusing Bart Stupak of anything.
I sure as hell am!
was he bought like Ben Nelson? Is that what you’re saying, Jill?
Video of Stupak saying he would vote YES all along.

Visit Stupak’s site and tell him how you feel…http://www.house.gov/stupak/
Liz, Nelson’s buy-off was obvious. I’m not sure about Stupak. I wouldn’t have thought that about him. But something did seem to snap. For so long his pro-life convictions were most important, and then suddenly his political ambitions took charge. Maybe he got a political favor, or maybe the pressure became to great to bear.
Stupak just turned on Repubs, saying it’s the DEMOCRATS who have stood up for unborn life! He smeared the Motion to Recommit as politicizing unborn life, not protecting it.
I’m so sad, so stunned, so heartsick. So betrayed.
Maybe Stupak will get the same warm reception from his constituents that Nelson got for the cornhusker kickback.
Jennifer, I saw that, and he freaked me out. Want to post video as soon as I get it.
Gentles All,
This was an exquisite heartbreak tonight. We lost a battle, but the outcome of this war has already been determined by the death and resurrection of Jesus.
Today we learned who is truly pro-life, who can be trusted to stand for those without a voice. Let’s not make the mistake of projecting our goodness onto others. That’s a recipe for heartbreak every time.
God as given us all the tools we need to win this war. With His Love and Divine assistance, we cannot fail. Without it, we cannot win.
And He has given us one another.
We SHALL overcome. With each new baby aborted, we gain one more saint interceding for us before the Throne of Grace.
Let’s lick our wounds, regroup, reenergize, and praise God for all that He has given us.
Then let’s get back on the field and do battle.
Thank goodness for Congressman Stupak.
Stunning. For Stupak to turn around and accuse of being disengenuous the pro-lifers whose side he was on just hours ago is flabberghasting.
Evil is definitely afoot in this whole thing. I am truly frightened about where this country is headed.
Gerard,
I wonder if there are any who will truly stand for life when it’s not politically expedient for them to do so. The Republicans did tonight because it was in their best interest politically.
I knew there was always a chance that Stupak would cave, but I honestly thought he would stay strong and vote no. Now I see that he truly is a party-Democrat. I am stunned by his betrayal, I admit.
Is there anyone with honor? I’m starting to think, no…
Not unless there’s something in it for them.
Tonight it seems we were betrayed not with a kiss, but with a slap across the face.
But you are right in reminding us that our battle continues, and the Lord will lead us on.
Jake,
Yes thankfully for you congresspeople on your side can be so easily bought off.
Mary,
Bought off?? Come now, if you think only Democrats are being bought off you are sorely mistaken. All of politics is corrupt, it is just nice to be on the winning side if you will.
Thank you Dr. Nadal for your words of encouragement. I am in tears right now. I need to pray and to remember that we all know how this ultimately turns out…
Jake,
Nice to know that you have no issue with bribery when it benefits you. I thought Obama promised an end to such a thing.
Jennifer 10:10PM
What’s the first thing we want to do when we fail? Of course, blame someone else.
Michelle,
You’re not alone in your feeling of betrayal and your tears. But this fight is the Lord’s so we must not give in to despair.
We lost a battle today, a big battle. That’s war. We lost Pearl Harbor, Bataan, the rest of the Philippines, and a half-dozen other big Pacific Battles before we turned the corner in the Pacific in WWII. In the Civil War, the North lost at Antietem, the single-bloodiest day of the war with 23,000 casualties. We lost appallingly at Fredericksburg and a score of other engagements before we turned it around at Gettysburg.
That’s war. The innocent die along with the aggressors and defenders.
We are in a war, a spiritual war, and must view it as such. Our weapons are prayer, fast, education and activism. If we despair, we retreat from the field. Look to Jill. She has grabbed the flag and rallied the troops all along, untiringly I might add. She’s rallied me on more than one occasion.
Stay strong.
Jennifer,
I wonder the same. But the real work is in educating the public and evangelizing as well. The politicians are a lagging indicator of the consensus in the electorate.
God Bless us everyone, as Tiny Tim said in A Christmas Carrol
Gerard and Jennifer,
I look at Obama’s self satisfied smug smile and see a man who has no clue as to what is ahead of him. A man who is clueless as to how he is loathed and how a “victory” can quickly become a curse, as his predecessor Lyndon Johnson discovered. How the gods so often punish men by answering their prayers.
I can’t explain it but I forsee it in that smile.
Oh my check Drudgereport,
The fallout is starting already.
Keep smiling Obama
I want to make it clear that my family views are not about abortion, but about the right of any human being to be able to exercise his God’s given right of free will. We believe it is up to us as individuals to decide our own salvation or condemnation; even though, God in his fatherly love, asks from us to be prudent in every aspects of our lives, in order to achieve salvation. Not only he asks us to love him the same way he loves us, but he also asks us to love our neighbors with the same intensity as well. After all, God is pro- choice, for he is the “Architect of the Free Will”. Accordingly, at the end of the day it is the right of everyone to exercise such right, by accepting or rejecting any or all issues, concerning their own decisions. As you all know, health insurance companies are making decisions for us, and by doing that, they are depriving us of our rights to be healthy, and for better or worse, of our rights to choose our own health care. For that, I will do my best to fight against them and or anyone representing them. I strongly condemn abortion, because on this matter I do have a choice. Moreover, I firmly believe that abortion is a heinous crime. However, I too hold that by defending not only the tactics of the health care industry, but the way they decide our fate by denying coverage for pre-existing conditions, raising insurance premiums, and or denying medical procedures to people that desperately needs them is also a heinous crime. Therefore, it is hypocritical for these activists to call themselves Christians, and to use lies about a health care reform that does not provide funds for abortion in order to kill it, while providing support for the real killers called “The Health Care Industry”. As parents, we all love our children, however, if one of them is different from the others; would that means that he should be separated and treated differently? The same is for God; he loves us all and not the unborn only, for God does not make distinctions among his children. Therefore, Christians should be fighting to save not only the unborn, but to save as well the life of all people in this country that are dying or suffering, because they do not have or cannot afford to buy health insurance. It is very easy to put the blame of our own failures as parents on a government created by the people and for the people. The role of our government is to serve and protect its people by enacting laws for all people, and not only for some. As parents it is our responsibility to teach our children that abortion is not only immoral but also a crime. It is also our responsibility to teach them as how to preserve the sanctity of their body in order to give their love to the person that would share their lives and not only their bed. This is the message that all parents should convey and teach to their children; a message that we always conveyed to our own children. I never heard any of these Christians complaining about the use of condoms by our children in order to avoid pregnancy. Is it not true that the church condemn such practice as equal? Therefore, stop blaming our government for our own failures as Christians. God does not make exceptions among his children, neither should we!
Matthew 5:43-48
You have heard that it was said: Love your neighbor and do not do good to your enemy. But this I tell you: Love your enemies, and pray for those who persecute you, so that you may be children of your Father in Heaven. For he makes his sun rise on both the wicked and the good, and he gives rain to both the just and the unjust. If you love those who love you, what is special about that? Do not even tax collectors do as much? And if you are friendly only to your friends, what is so exceptional about that? Do not even the pagans do as much? For your part you shall be righteous and perfect in the way your heavenly Father is righteous and perfect.
However, the big question is; can we trust individuals preaching morality in underwear?
