- A 2008 Planned Parenthood services fact sheet (they still haven’t released their 2008-09 report) shows that the number of abortions performed at PP affiliates that year was 324,008. That’s almost 1/3 of a million. This is a substantial increase over the 305,310 abortions they performed in 2007.
- A MO Planned Parenthood has temporarily stopped performing abortions, apparently due to scheduling issues with their abortionist:
“It’s not that we are no longer providing abortions in Columbia,” said Peter Brownlie, president and CEO of PP of KS and Mid-MO. “We utilize physicians as they are available, and we happen to be at a point that the physicians in Columbia aren’t currently available due to scheduling issues.”
The temporary halt of abortion services in Columbia leaves St. Louis as the only city in MO where an abortion can be legally obtained. Brownlie acknowledged that that would inconvenience some women….
“We’re working with the doctors, and I’m hopeful we will (provide abortions) by the end of the month, if not sooner,” Brownlie said.

I think it’s important to note that not only did Planned Parenthood’s abortion numbers go up, but everything else went down. I do mean everything: not only adoption referrals, but also prenatal care and even contraception clients!
Maybe people finally realized it’s a bad idea to get contraception from people who make money off of contraception failure.
The delivery of abortion services can continued to be claimed to be a small portion of all services – because for these other services, you need refills and prescription renewals. Renewal of birth control pills might click two visits per year, once the first appt was completed. So, that will add up. Also, more curiously, are the non-prescription barrier services- looking like the most common service delivered. Does this mean that anytime PP hands out a condom, they get to click another service delivery?
That would make it very easy to declare, honestly, that abortion is but a tiny part of all of their service delivery. Like a gas station having twice as many sales for a 12 – ounce beer than sales for a 10 gallon fill-up of gas — that does not make the gas station a bar.
