Quote of the Day 9-22-10
I had spoken to [husband Josh Kelley] about it before we got engaged and because I wanted to make sure we were on the same page—not everybody feels the way I do about adoption….
I don’t know why I felt like it was so important for me to do it before we had biological children, but I felt like I had been waiting and dreaming about Naleigh for a long time.
~Actress Katherine Heigl, who with her husband adopted 20-month-old daughter, Nancy Leigh Mi-Eun (Naleigh) in September 2009, as quoted by InStyle.com, September 21

Beautiful.
I guess because she adopted she can have an opinion on abortion right?? :P
No, no, Carla, she has to adopt ALL the unwanted children, remember?
And she’s probably pro-choice anyway. Most celebs are pro-death.
Oh, that’s right, Kel. When I adopt all unwanted children in this world I will have my say!!! Just you wait, missy.
Carla,
You still have to feed all the starving children in the world, too!
Man, I have my work cut out for me don’t I?? I shall do my best and then get an opinion on abortion.
It’s not about HAVING an opinion; it’s about FORCING your opinion on others.
It’s funny you don’t see any celebrities adopting kids, just babies. Once a child waiting to be adopted reaches a couple years old the odds of adoption drop dramatically. Don’t get me wrong I think it’s great this baby has a home of her own now, but I feel bad for all the kids who don’t.
Understand this, prohibition does not work ever! It didn’t work for whiskey, drugs, prostitution, immigration, DUI, or any other law ever made. Laws don’t stop anything; they just give the community a means of punishment of offenders. Making abortion illegal will force it back into the underground like it was before the 1970’s. This puts women in greater danger by a mile and we need to protect women. Women will be forced to seek substandard healthcare that not only will terminate the fetus but possibly the woman and any children she may want to have later in life. If abortion is made illegal yes the number of abortions will go down but the mortality rate will sky rocket, as will violence against women by partners and there is no getting around it.
Question – If abortion was made illegal what would you say to a young girl who was sexually abused and became pregnant? What would you say to her if she flat did not want to be pregnant or a mother? If pregnancy was forced on her though abuse would you force motherhood on her as well? Would the only thing you could say be “sorry here are some baby clothes”? Forget the fetus for a second and just address the girl, what would you tell her?
Sorry about the rape and I hope you enjoy giving birth? We will help you with custody hearings against your attacker? We will make him pay child support? Sorry about the loss of a future you were hoping for? What could you say to her?
In Choice Lives Freedom, or as god put it every man is born with the Devine gift of Free Will…
Where ya been, Biggz??
You have missed this discussion going on right here.

Yes I know you have missed my single voice of reason, but i was out of town visiting my parents for the last couple weeks. Have no fear logic is back =)~
LOL :)

Wow – you actually are admitting that’s what “choice” is all about? What happened? Why are you being so intellectually honest now? When did you come to realize that the unborn are human beings and abortion is forcing the mother’s opinion about life onto the child?
“Making abortion illegal will force it back into the underground like it was before the 1970?s.”
It will also greatly lower the number of people being slaughtered and send the message that killing innocent human beings is barbaric.
It didn’t work for whiskey, drugs, prostitution, immigration, DUI, or any other law ever made.
Here’s some logic for you. . . .

Biggz,
Abortion in the case of rape or incest accounts for only 1.5% of ALL abortions. That means 98.5% of abortions have nothing to do with rape!
Let’s talk about those.
And speaking of theft, murder, drugs, prostitution, etc., can you imagine what America would be like if those crimes were no longer illegal?! Why do you make an exception for abortion? Certainly a woman dying from an illegal abortion is a tragedy, just as it’s also a tragedy when someone dies from a drug overdose or when a prostitute is murdered. But these aren’t legitimate reasons to legalize the crimes themselves.
Drinking and driving is illegal, yes, and that doesn’t stop all people from drinking and driving. However, it does deter many! Plus, it provides justice for the victim when a perpetrator is convicted.
Can you imagine what would happen if drinking and driving became legal? Well, it would be just like abortion. When it was legalized, the rates skyrocketed.
I guess now the debate about abortion is no longer whether its right or wrong, its not whether its killing or not. Most folks know that when you are pregnant, its a baby thats inside of you. The question though is the humanity of it. At what stage is it actually “still okay” to get rid of “it”. We hear a lot of “blob of cells” or “its not even and inch yet” or the classic, “its not formed yet so its still okay”. A lot of people are against late term abortion because they’ve seen the ultrasounds.
I think the emphasis now should be the humanity of the child. That if someone chooses to terminate their pregnancy, they are infact killing their child.
Also, using the logic of “forcing your opinion” on others..here’s a scenario…
If a friend comes up to you and tells you that they are so miserable that they are contemplating suicide…Do you try your very best to persuade your friend not to go through with it? OR do you say well, its you’re choice, its your body, you can do anything you want with it..
Its not about forcing your opinion on others, its about saving A LIFE. I’ve never heard a woman who kept her pregnancy after contemplating abortion to regret her decision. But women who chose abortion, almost always, regret what they did.
That’s very lovely about what Katherine Heigl said. And it doesn’t sound like she’s ruled out having biological children, she just felt strongly about adopting the little one she and her husband have.
I know people who have adopted kids that weren’t babies. (Kids plural, not singular). My family is one of them. I know other people who have done it, too.
But like Carla said, we have to adopt them all and end world hunger and poverty while we’re at it. Carla, you’re right, you/we DO have our work cut out for us!
