Lunch Break: CatholicVote.org 10 top reasons for hope in 2010
To give us a break from the daily grind…
CatholicVote.org conducted an online request for suggestions for the Top 10 Reasons for Hope from 2010. All are life-affirming; two specifically deals with the abortion issue.
The choice of music significantly enhances the visual experience and drives home an inspirational message. Think “Winter Olympics overture” with this one.
The most surprising entry? Number Three: Sisters on Oprah. I had no idea they were guests on her show.

Good video! Thanks for posting it.
CatholicOnline has covered the Sister’s on Oprah (http://www.catholic.org). After their first appearance, reaction was so positive that Oprah featured them a second time. Can’t get any better publicity than that!!
Great list!
I was a bit surprised at the number one reason given (the 2010 election), but I suppose it makes sense since this poll is taken from a political perspective. From a purely religious perspective,we know that Jesus Christ is the true reason for our hope!
I’m reminded of The Reason For Our Hope Foundation which was founded by Father Larry Richards in answer to 1Peter 3:15: “Always be ready to give an explanation to anyone who asks you for a reason for your hope.” He’s a captivating speaker whose words will touch Catholics and non-Catholics alike. The website is worth a look, IMHO.

I’m not going to go back until they excommunicate Nancy Pelosi and Joe Biden.
Unrelated note: Please pray for me, everyone. I leave for WI tomorrow, and I have a couple worries on my shoulders about the trip. <3 you all!
Praying for you, Xalisae!!
Welcome to WI!!

ROFLMAO. The Catholic Church never excommunicated any Kennedy’s. As they say, money talks.

So Jews and other non Christians can’t hope because they don’t believe in Jesus?
DD,
No, I didn’t say that.
DD, your comment is actually a question that a lot of people ask. In the Gospel we read that for those people who are righteous but do not know of Jesus, the word of God is written on their hearts. So people who are perfectly upright (no grave sins and all that) will not be rejected by God at all. However, people who are aware that Jesus is the Messiah and yet deny him, well, God’s going to sort that out. We humans can’t judge them because that’s God’s job, but we are obligated to try and save their souls. Gods ways are not our ways, so we can’t judge people’s most inner hearts and souls because we don’t know all the things God knows. For example, if a Muslim person is upright in the eyes of God, he may very well go to Heaven. But if a person calls himself a Christian and yet continues in unrepentant sin, he’s probably taking the “down” escalator. Probably, but we humans can’t know that for sure.
X,
Correct me if I’m wrong, but I recall you saying you were an atheist.
You would really go back if that happens? For real?
DD,
I’ll assume that you’re being sincere in your question.
The only hope that anyone has, they have it because of Jesus’ sacrificial death and resurrection. These are historical accounts recorded by eyewitnesses and set down in writing. Therein lies our victory over death and the reason not to fear death.
Of course, those who reject Jesus are in a different boat than those who never heard the Gospel.
Thank you for posting this video. it is encouraging to me. It has been a downer for me to see the lame-duck “ram down it your throat” congressional session finale but I am guardedly optimistic regarding potential progress for pro-life and pro-family issues. My faith is not in any political party but in Jesus Christ and that God’s people will pray and stand up for His principles. 2 Chronicles 7:14 “If my people who are called by my name will humble themselves and pray seek my face and turn from their wicked ways then I will hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and will heal their land.
Xalisae I will pray for you. Happy New Year and blessings to you.
Lovely… #7 was slightly unsettling to me as an Englishman educated in Scotland, two of the constituent nations of the United Kingdom… we loved having his Holiness with us in both nations, but the event was headlined in the video “visit to England” against a shot of Edinburgh (capital of Scotland) with crowds waving the cross of St Andrew (Scottish flag… different shape and colour from the English cross of St George)… still, who can remember all those states, eh? :)
No only were the Dominican Sisters Mary, Mother of the Eucharist on Oprah,(twice) the inquiries have gone up dramatically and it has stirred many to find out more about the life!
One of my good friends is a sister and she told me they had over 100 women at their last discernment retreat due to the shows!
DD, hope is kind of necessary but like the Holy Spirit, has an elusive quality that makes exploration difficult. A much easier spiritual notion is that of PEACE. Jesus is called in scripture The Prince of Peace. He ‘is our peace’ has been shortened to ‘He is Peace’ and ranks right up there with John’s: ‘God is love.’
The reason I mention this, is because we are way too familiar with violence of all kinds. Too few approach Jesus this way and think God = condemnation. A whole new perspective results from knowing Jesus as Peace.
Peace be in you,
