Rick Santorum: It’s morality, not just the economy, stupid
The day we stop fighting for the unborn child, or fighting to protect the sanctity of marriage, expel God from public, or decide we will no longer enforce the laws of land, is the day we surrender all our founding father’s created.
I believe what makes America exceptional is not just our economic potential or our remarkable innovation, but the fact that we are a moral enterprise.
~ Republican primary presidential candidate Rick Santorum’s Iowa campaign mailer as reported by The Other McCain, December 18
AMEN!! SANTORUM 2012
This man has courage and conviction in spades. He also has no Messiah-complex or need for power. He wants to serve and preserve the nation for his children and ours. He understands that we can repair the walls all day long and it won’t matter if we don’t repair the foundation. God bless you, Rick!

Can yall imagine, in your wildest dreams, our current president saying anything this remarkable and revolutionary?
I didn’t think so.

This literally gave me chills. This man is the person this country needs as a leader. I’m sorry that it won’t be him; it truly is a loss.

Why won’t it be him, Sarah?

I’m saying I would like it if he did win the nomination, but I think the nod will go to Romney. I don’t want it to, I’d rather have Santorum or even Perry both of whom are truly Pro-Life. Romney just creeps me out, and is a moderate trying to persuade conservatives he has changed.
Not trying to start anything; I do truly wish Santorum had the momentum and backing to win.

Protect the sanctity of marriage? Does he mean outlawing divorce and remarrying? Because I know a lot of people who haven’t taken marriage very seriously and yet they still have the ‘right’ to get married. One name that comes to mind is Newt Gingrich. He’s cheated on two of his three wives yet we’re more concerned about preventing homosexuals from marrying. Give me a break Santorum.
It’s not that God can’t be publicized. After all, if he IS God, then he’ll always be everywhere. But the “laws of the land” demand a strict separation between church and state. If Rick wants to enforce these laws as he says he does, then perhaps he should start by recognizing the separation of church and state. No government shall favor any religion or give any religion special privileges.

Rick needs to speak more about the economy, and also show, if possible, how a strong moral country will benefit the country’s economy.
I think most Republicans are clear where he stands on the moral issues.. Now it’s time to dig deep, and deal with some of the other issues.

We are blessed to have several conservatives running in this primary. But I believe that Rick Santorum is the consistent conservative. He is the only one who has been consistently saying that we need to strengthen the family as well as the economy. He has been fighting the good fight for life and family. Why are you giving up so soon, Sarah?
:)
Do not be disheartened.

Founding fathers mentioned nothing about marriage, nothing about the “unborn”. They also purposely decided to not form an established church and that the public spheres of government shall be separate from the private spheres of religion. Me thinks he needs to re-read the constitution, and the notes from the Constitutional convention.

Courtnay, if laws can allow government endorsement of one religion, that’s not freedom OF religion at all. I have no idea why anyone, even people who agree with the type of Christianity that Santorum follows, would want the government intruding on religious freedom at all. History bears out, it’s never a good thing. It not only marginalizes minority religions, it can actually limit you Christians freedom of practice.

Ah, Duck, you’re right our founding fathers never mentioned anything about abortion or marraige. I suspect that is because they understood and took for granted that everyother sane person understood the true nature and order of marraige. They also understood, Im sure that abortion is murder, whether the child is born or unborn.
Duck, in our founding document it states that our rights come from God(“endowed by our Creator”). In the first amendment we’re granted freedom of religion and freedom of speech, that tells me I can proclaim my belief in God anywhere I want, be it a church a school or a campaign trail.
Our founding Fathers, including George Washington repeatidly made the point in speech’s and their writings that if this experiment in self rule was going to work we would have to be a people of the Bible. They also repeatidly envoked God’s help and guidence in very public ways. It is very obvious to me that most of these men were devout Christians and had no problem letting the world know that their public actions were inspired by their religious belefs.
I’ll be praying for Rick Santorun and his success in this campaign.

Protect the sanctity of marriage probably means to keep the institution heterosexual. As I’ve pointed out before, there is an odd link between abortion and gay marriage. No embryo or fetus as every been ripped to bits because of lesbian loving. No woman has ever died in a back alley or committed suicide because a lesbian embrace left her pregnant and terrified to carry to term.
Thus, lesbianism means enjoying the joys of partnered sex without the fear of an unplanned pregnancy. This is felt as unfair. It is getting away with something. The stigma exists to balance out the advantages of a partnered sexuality without no connection to the horrors of unwanted pregnancies.

To put someone like santorum in the white house would be about as sensible as resurrecting ayatollah khomeini, removing several IQ points, and putting him in there.
“it states that our rights come from God(“endowed by our Creator”) – you assume that ‘creator’ means ‘god’ and indeed that it means your particular ‘god’. It ain’t necessarily so.

Why is no one here talking about Ron Paul? He’s consistently pro life, and he’s actually got a shot at winning. Santorum is good, but he is only strong on social issues, and he is way too polarizing to win against Obama. What makes us a moral enterprise is our commitment to liberty- based on the sanctity of each individual. Ron Paul is the only one who is willing to actually restore freedom to the people of this country and to the world.

Jasper, if you are going to cast me as ‘bad’ and ‘a truly repulsive creature’ because I do not conform to your personal interpretation of what doctrines and behavoirs must be adhered to, go ahead.
If you were to do so in the context of my impact on society and the world at large on a rational level, you’ll struggle.
Anthony, I’ve read snippets saying that Ron Paul is a racist. Are you aware of any level of truth to these claims?

I actually want Ron Paul to win Iowa. I say this as someone who is NOT a fan.
He hits number one, the media will clobber him over his praise for the traitor Bradley Manning, his naivete of jihad, and his racist newsletters that he STILL won’t say who wrote them. In fact, he just walked out of a CNN interview, visibly annoyed that he would be pestered about such a thing.
Then watch as his star goes down in flames with the likes of Cain, Pawlenty, Gingrich, and Bachmann.
He’ll drop out or run in a Libertarian primary against Gary Johnson.
Won’t be pretty.

Why is he not doing better in the polls?
Because he’s too kooky, plain and simple.

Yeah, that “kooky” pro-life Santorum. How dare he actually live what he believes. How dare he raise and treasure a child with special needs who was expected to die soon after birth. How dare he hold to traditional values about marriage and life.
What a kooky nut.
I’d rather have a Marxist in the White House. Cuz that’s not kooky.

Jemez G.: Yes, exactly. Santorum, if not possessed of a wild-eyed, lunatic “messiah” complex, still raises the specter of something heading towards a theocracy, absolute hell on earth.
I think this is enough to rule out Santorum. He would be a “gimme” for Obama.

Newt, to me, is a question. Yeah – his dealings with women do give some pause, but it’s “old news” to a large extent, now, isn’t it? As I recall, the story is pretty harsh – his wife was in the hospital, seriously sick or dying, and Newt up and tells her he’s outta there – that he’s found somebody new. Ouch. Still, this has been around for a good while.

Interesting, Carder, and a nice willingness on your part to make concrete predictions. :)
I don’t know about “racist newsletters” but the guy is over-the-top with some stuff, and that would be pretty damning to his candidacy.

Santorum doesn’t talk about the economy much because he’s not fiscally conservative. He’s just another blowhard using social issues to distract the single issue voters out there from his economic record. He’s voted to raise the debt limit every time he’s taken a vote on it. Abortion is a terrible evil. But so is spending our economy into oblivion and leaving our kids with eternal debt.
