Obama administration kills embryo adoption program, funds abortions for detainees
I don’t know how much more of this man I can take. This is an evil, evil administration.
President Barack Obama has cut funding to the embryo adoption program that President George W. Bush launched by in 2002. According to the Washington Times, March 4:
The federal government’s only program aimed at preventing the discarding of “extra” frozen human embryos is itself in danger of being discarded.
In a move that pro-lifers are calling more evidence of the Obama administration’s “pro-abortion slant,” the White House has sought to defund the Embryo Adoption Awareness Campaign in its fiscal 2013 budget.
The Department of Health and Human Services “is not requesting funds for this program” because “the Embryo Adoption program will be discontinued in FY2013,” HHS officials said in a February funding report to Congress….
The HHS report said the reason to end the $1.9 million embryo-adoption awareness program is “limited interest.” Only a “very small pool of applicants, many of whom are repeat recipients,” are seeking the grants, it said.
Mailee Smith, staff counsel at Americans United for Life, said such a decision is more evidence of “the pro-abortion slant of this administration.”
“Why would the Obama administration cut $2 million for adoption awareness, but keep $1 million a day for Planned Parenthood?” she asked….
But in March 2009, President Obama authorized more funding for embryonic stem-cell research, and federal guidelines now let couples donate unwanted frozen embryos to such researchers with the proviso that they cannot receive cash, services or special treatment in exchange for their donations.
So Obama freed up funding for human embryo experimentation, made a way for parents to donate their children for dissection, and then cut funding for embryo adoption. How else can these actions be seen other than pro-death?
Meanwhile, according to CNS News on March 5:
Immigration and Customs Enforcement, the division the Department of Homeland Security responsible for enforcing the nation’s immigration laws, will provide “hormone therapy” to illegal aliens it has detained who say they are transgender, according to the agency’s operations manual for its detention facilities….
The ICE detention operations manual also says that illegal alien detainees who are pregnant will be provided with help not just for an impending delivery but also in obtaining an abortion….
Abortions will be taxpayer-funded if the life of the mother is deemed to be endangered or the pregnancy is the result of rape or incest, and ICE will arrange transportation to the abortionist at no cost to the detainee.
One guess as how many healthy but abortion-minded detainees say they were the victims of rape. And who’s to know? There is also no gestational age restriction in ICE’s operations manual. So theoretically a mother who is seven months pregnant could be detained, cry rape, and get a taxpayer-funded abortion. It is not outside the realm of possibility to think there are some who might be purposefully detained so as to get taxpayer funded abortions.
This man MUST be replaced in November. The depths of his pro-death agenda is unfathomable.
[Photo of President Bush holding a baby who was adopted as an embryo via USA Today; bottom photo via The Daily Beast]

November can’t come soon enough for me. Gonna be a long, contentious summer.
The real outrage here is that it took him 3 years to kill such a stupid, worthless program, that was clearly conceived as a shameless and blatant sop to evangelicals in advance of the 2004 election.
Yep, right from the abortion worshippers mouth: an adoption awareness program is “stupid and worthless” and she’s glad it’s been “killed.”
Yep, there is no ‘choice’ in pro-choice. Joan, does your car bear a bumper sticker that reads, “The only good baby is a dead baby”?? Just wondering.
The man is Pro-Death. If he can find a way for people to kill the innocent, he will do it. Pray for this country.
Stupid? Worthless?
Yes Joanie. Tell that to the blondie that George Bush is holding. You know…the former embryo that was adopted.
Better yet tell that to his adoptive parents.
You do the prolife movement a huge favor every time you post. Keep up the good work!
People really change their views on government spending if it is a program that they support. Given certain programs, Democrats act like Republicans and Republicans act like Democrats.
CC, I am neither evangelical nor Catholic and I believe they’re babies. Way to use stereotypes as an argument though.
You know, cc, you could let Joan have some attention now and then without always trying to upstage her.
Sorry for that Joan. You were saying?
“the Embryo Adoption program will be discontinued in FY2013,”
Only if the enemies of life remain in power. Anybody But Obama 2012.
“Only if the enemies of life remain in power. Anybody But Obama 2012. ”
But the “fiscal conservatives” running for the Republican nomination would gladly continue a $1.9 million federal program that makes about as much sense as an “adopt a pet rock” campaign? Can’t say that I’m surprised.
CC, i also forgot to mention bonus points for bringing race into the discussion for no good reason.
The more pro-lifers oppose Obama, the more their most strident detractors on this board will wuv ‘im.
Some people are driven by “the enemy of my enemy is my friend” — even if he’s mostly advanced the policies BDS sufferers decried so vociferously over the years.
You could say 2+2=4 and get an argument from such folk, if they discovered that you were pro-life.
Well, let’s see now.
If you’re a strident supporter of American communist radicals, then that should pretty much explain everything.
http://www.breitbart.com/Breitbart-TV/2012/03/12/The%20Vetting%20Obamas%20Favorite%20Congressman%20Hangs%20At%20Communist%20Party%20HQ
Stalin, Castro, Mao…what’s an embryo or two?
We’re all in good hands, my friends.
Agreed, Jill. His administration is evil and he MUST be sent home to Chicago in November. There’s no working with him. He simply must be defeated.
One note – this title and posting is factually incorrect – in regards to the program, the funding is in a budget request that goes through various committees of congressional approval.
I’m kind of digging seeing some right wingers okay with some government spending. Good job folks!
I don’t have time for a post about embryonic adoption/illegal immigration right now, albeit I am confused about dropping the adoption program. As far as I can tell, it wasn’t hurting anyone at all. Dropping it is a little pointless to me. I’ll have to write up a lengthier comment later.
Anyway, I have a question for all conservative pro-lifers, and please don’t get angry. The question is sincere: Do you really believe that Barack Obama can be voted out right now? The economy is improving, no one wants a blatant warmonger in the office, and the GOP has taken many hits since the Bush Administration; much of the American public views the GOP and its policies as the reason we are in the mess we are in with the economy.
The GOP nomination will more than likely go to Mitt Romney. If not Romney, the nomination will go to Rick Santorum. Romney cannot connect with voters on a personal level and is soundly rejected by the right. Santorum cannot win in a debate with Obama and is strongly rejected by the center and the left; he is embraced only by the right (and even some elements of the right find him too conservative). Neither can get a large enough audience to oppose Obama.
So, as I said, my question sounds blunt but is sincere: Do you really think Obama can be voted out this November in an election against Romney or Santorum? I would just some feedback, please.
My friend and her husband adopted an embryo. They now have a beautiful, healthy almost 6 month old baby girl…but yea..the whole program of SAVING BABIES and MAKING LOVING FAMILIES is “totally stupid and worthless”.
Sheesh, Joan…get back on your meds..or get some help if you’re not!
Vannah,
Do you support Obama for re-election??
“Santorum cannot win in a debate with Obama”
LOL. I don’t think Vannah is serious. She says so many things that are just blatantly false…
Jasper, venture out of the right wing bubble and you will see a president largely admired, and senator sentorum widely rejected. Sorry that it’s not the way you wish the world was.
Hal: “Jasper, venture out of the right wing bubble and you will see a president largely admired…”
I know . . . ain’t that some scary sh*t?
Hal,
Oblama’s approval rating was at 50% one month ago and it is at 41% now.
My take is that Romney almost certainly will be given the nomination. The right won’t be happy but will vote for him because they are so mad at Obama. The economy, as well as Obama’s approval rating can still take many twists and turns before November, so its unclear what will happen. Oh and Hal, if you leave the left wing bubble you will see Obama is not that widely admired.
truthseeker: Right. And even 41% is scary. I’m not talking about fear of his re-election. I’m talking about what the heck kind of people am I commuting alongside, with their kool-aid drunk bumper stickers?
What I’ve found with Obama supporters I’ve spoken with — some of whom are friends and co-workers — is that they’re entirely shrugging off things that had them spittin’ volcanoes when it was Bush. Stuff that was good enough to impeach Bush, hang Cheney, and fill the Hague’s docket for years to come — when it’s Obama doing even more of it, it elicits no more than a “meh” followed by an enthusiastic “Obama 2012!” Why? Not because someone so very like Bush is so obviously their messiah, in contrast with the messiah these lemmings thought they were electing in 2008. Nope. The reason is pure tribalism. “Conservatives think he’s bad! Eeerp! He must be great! And if he’s not, we’re obliged to pretend he is!”
The evil from this president and his administration is palpable. Of course our resident trolls are incapable of understanding things that are intrinsically evil so we would expect them to react as they have.
BTW ex, what we look for in spending proposals is direction. I have been involved with setting budgets for a financial institution for well over two decades. A budget is both an economic document and a moral document (and in the case of our president a budget is also a campaign document). When we see our pro-abort president increase funding for Planned Parenthood while decreasing funding for life affirming programs such as the embryo adoption program we oppose him. The larger budget questions are in play in the long run, but presently we must keep focused on immediate needs.
In a perfect world there would be no choices between good and bad budget items–just making sure we have the right priorities.
Well. I see that my question didn’t go over well at all…
Anyway, to answer your question, Carder, I will vote for the first time this year. I am currently weighing my options and barring any freak political snowstorm between now and November, I will choose between Barack Obama and Jill Stein.
It’s very complicated. For me personally, I consider of a lot of policies before supporting a candidate. I’ve been much happier with Obama’s foreign policy (foreign policy being the most important issue for me) than Bush’s, but I know that it isn’t perfect. All of this tension between the US and Iran has left me anxious and uncomfortable, and I question his commitment to diplomacy when he stands up in front of AIPAC and delivers a speech that, as Stein put it, smacks of “loose talk of war.” I’m not fatalistic; I’m not preparing for World War III or anything. I just want what most people want: peace.
I attended my first protest last month over this very thing, in fact. I went to an anti-war rally here on campus and talked with everyone from socialists (bite me) to Ron Paul supporters to veterans to grandmothers and Occupy Wall Street protesters. It was uplifting to see how many people came out in support of peace.
The problem with the two GOP frontrunners isn’t only their foreign policies. Romney is slick and just a businessman and Santorum is too ridiculous to take seriously. Newt Gingrich won’t get the nomination. Paul won’t either, but he may, I’ve heard, run as a Libertarian. Because of his domestic policy- his sharp stance against education, healthcare, the environment, and other things- I wouldn’t vote for him anyway.
National advertising suspended on Limbaugh’s show.
mp,
Still fixated on that? Maybe we should keep linking to the debt clock or gas price rises. They don’t exactly redound to an Obama re-election.
Vannah, Oblama is just a divider. He has nothing positive to run on so in the past year he has attacked the rich and the white and the religious and now is trying to divide us by gender. Do you not care that he is such a hypocrite?
1) He says abortion is a wrenching issue but he fights to increase funding it.
2) He says we need to increase energy production but he regulates it into extemination.
3) He says we we need to decrease spending and he keeps spending at stimulus levels without a budget.
4) He says we shouldn’t go to war but he takes out Qaddafi without ever declaring war.
5) He says he will run a transparent presidency but everything is backdoor deals and cronyism.
6) He says he is for large corporations paying their fair share of taxes but he chooses the CEO of GE to head his Council on Jobs. GE made 14.2 billion dollars in profit last year and paid $0 in taxes.
Need I go on?
Truth – Obama’s gallup 3 day number is 49%.
If you’d like to understand a bit more on the polling – here’s a good article (and great site) – http://fivethirtyeight.blogs.nytimes.com/2012/03/12/approval-ratings-gas-prices-and-statistical-noise/
Jerry -
First off, and please correct me if I’m wrong, but Planned Parenthood isn’t in the federal budget. They perform services that qualify for Medicare/Medicaid reimbursement, bill for those services, and are paid – but budgets don’t allocate them more money at the federal level – they simply perform more services some years.
Seconde – my only point earlier is that in some discussions, right wingers throw up their hands and say “well, we just spend so much, even on good causes we have to cut back. Deficit spending is the most important issue out there” – and in this case, it seems like right wingers are okay with spending more than we have to help organizations in their marketing efforts. It is just a big shift for some people.
Truth- As I’ve thought about it, I don’t have faith you’ll either read the article or pull out the numbers right – so the quick summation is that looking at a weighted average of the various polls, a month ago, Obama’s approval rating was about 46.5 – now it is about 46.9.
I’ve said though, and will continue to say – approval rating means less and less as we get into this year, and the number that is important is Obama vs Romney polls (once those really fire up).
You getting pretty excited for your man Romney?
Vannah,
Occupy Movement is peaceful? Seriously?
Please stop drinking the Kool Aid.
IF we do not have the right to life all other rights are meaningless.
The most proabortion president will be voted out. I will work hard to see to that.
So here you go
The pro abortion record of our president
http://www.lifenews.com/2010/11/07/obamaabortionrecord/
If you believe in the sanctity of human life from conception to natural death then Obama ain’t your guy!!
Carla: “Obama ain’t your guy!!”
You badly misspelled “Jarrett.”
“You could say 2+2=4 and get an argument from such folk, if they discovered that you were pro-life.”
Tell me about it!!! I live this argument!! LOL!
A lot of people can’t bring themselves to admit they made a mistake about this wretch of a president. It would unravel them. I can finally say I’m pro-choice: I’m looking forward to voting to CHOICE this administration! LOL!!!
Hans, you call it “fixation,” I call it focus.
Meanwhile, some GM guys are mightily upset with Fox and El Rushbo.
http://www.freep.com/article/20120313/BUSINESS01/203130348/Bob-Lutz-attacks-Fox-News-again-defense-Chevy-Volt
Unintended consequences? You know, like calling women names.
mp: I can’t speak for anyone else here, but for my part — being a conservative who’s listened to NPR for thirty years — your continued score-keeping is a lot like listening to a male mosquito buzzing in the ear: nothing to concern myself with but irritating for its pretending to be.
Your persistence is all the more odd because on the pro-life front, though Rush is pro-life he’s hardly a pro-life apologist. His voice on that score is more a reflection of his listenership than an influence on it.
Again, mp, I’m always amazed at the energy liberals spend obsessing on conservative persons, programs, or networks that many of us conservatives don’t have an interest in.
These past few years living in Chicago and weathering an Obama administration, for my part I’m enjoying libertarian influences more than I ever have. Conservatism is in my DNA, but the wolf howling at the door is statist power. Rush is far (FAR)from being the only or most important voice in response to this threat to liberty.
Hi again Vannah,
Here is a link to one of the most powerful videos I’ve seen of Obama and the Born Alive Infants Protection Act. He did vote against it! What 3 or 4 times? HE VOTED AGAINST OFFERING HELP TO BABIES ABORTED ALIVE AND LEFT TO DIE! You could verify that with Jill Stanek who testified against in the Illinois Senate.
Here’s your man.
http://realchoice.blogspot.com/2008/09/obama-and-born-alive-babies.html
Again, mp, I’m always amazed at the energy liberals spend obsessing on conservative persons, programs, or networks that many of us conservatives don’t have an interest in.
There you go again, calling me a “liberal.”
Sure, Limbaugh is nominally “pro-life” and will pander to the movement, but you’ll never see him throw any money at it. Same thing goes for guys like the Koch brothers. They’ll pander to “pro-life” because they need your votes, but you’ll never see their money.
So, why my “fixation,” my focus, on Limbaugh?
I suggest you read the memo and think about it.
http://www.scribd.com/doc/85058542/Premiere-Networks-List-Of-Advertisers-Asking-Not-To-Advertise-On-Limbaugh-And-Other-Right-Wing-Hosts
Obama is widely admired??? I live in a MEGA democratic/academic/whacked out liberal community, and these folks just LOVED him and spoke about him in Messianic language. Now?
Buyer’s remorse, to the PERSON.
Or, in Obama’s own words, a one term proposition. As someone said above, his evil is palpable.
Of course these children are better off living than having been aborted:
http://www.invisiblechildren.com/
Carla, I know! And when I read Obama’s words on the subject of infants born alive, I couldn’t believe how inhumane he was: “Let’s get through this quickly….let’s hurry this up….let’s not take more time with this…” that kind of thing.
OH, can’t snuff them fast enough, Scary Barry?!
His mother chose life for him and he couldn’t be less grateful if he tried.
Better off dead, eh henry? Are you claiming that all of the “Invisible Children” were born to mothers who would have preferred to have them aborted but just weren’t allowed to do so?
Oh, and henry? Whose fault is it that those children are in that situation? Could it perhaps be the fault of someone who doesn’t really value innocent life?
Sorry this is off topic but I see someone brought up the Invisible Children issue.
Can anyone tell me anything about the politics (if any) behind the Invisible Children? There are posters all over the public school I work at and a speaker coming to talk with the students.
I don’t trust the teacher who set it up (outspoken, huge Obama fan), so that’s why I’m asking about it.
Maybe it’s just an attempt to look like they care about kids on one hand but support killing them in the womb on the other.
I’ve said though, and will continue to say – approval rating means less and less as we get into this year,
D on’t fret Ex-RINO. Keep your head in the sand. Obama’s tanking approval numbers (down 12 point among women voters since one month ago) are meaningless.
ex:
Recall just a bit ago when your hero president bravely stood with Cecile Richards and was willing to shut down the gov rather than agree to raise the debt limit if there were no funding for Plannned Parenthood included.
The million dollars (plus) per day that PP receives from the feds is tied to Title X funding. Of course we know (wink, wink) that none of that very fungible money goes to support the baby killing end of the business.
mp,
Tell GM to pay their taxes once again.
And the Volt is a joke. Now they’re waving $10,000 credit in front of the noses of the 1%ers who still won’t buy these lemons.
Rasqual,
I believe it is the female mosquito that buzzes in our ear, looking for blood. The big, slow male is a nectar-feeder.
(No offense, ladies.)
On second reading, you may know this. But while we certainly see the males around, they don’t really bother with us.
Truth –
If I had one wish today, it would be that you knew how to read the information provided to you…
One guess as how many healthy but abortion-minded detainees say they were the victims of rape.
Well, how many? Just what percentage of women who claim to be raped do you believe are lying?
And who’s to know? There is also no gestational age restriction in ICE’s operations manual. So theoretically a mother who is seven months pregnant could be detained, cry rape, and get a taxpayer-funded abortion. It is not outside the realm of possibility to think there are some who might be purposefully detained so as to get taxpayer funded abortions.
Well, I guess it’s refreshing to see someone hand-wringing about illegal immigrants turning themselves in to get free abortions instead of the more usual hand-wringing about pregnant immigrants having “anchor babies” to get free welfare benefits.
I look forward to seeing ‘personhood’ advocates oppose the deportation of illegal immigrants who are pregnant with fetuses who were conceived on American soil.
The embryo adoption program doesn’t come close to matching the rate at which embryos are created through IVF. I know there are statistics about “400,000” frozen embryos, but the majority of those ultimately will be implanted. However, a good portion of those will remain frozen until they degrade beyond viability. That usually results from a previous multiple birth and the parents are like “wow, no more”. Essentially, the rate at which new embryos are created, frozen, and then not wanted far exceeds all embryo adoption by two orders of magnitude.
The real issue is what to do about roughly 80-100,000 embryos that will never be implanted, and will degrade and have to be removed to be discarded.
This is irresponsible journalism. The Obama administration has not killed Embryo Adoption. In fact, it is because embryo adoptions are increasing that it was decided that the HHS funding of the Embryo Adoption Awareness campaign was no longer necessary. Millions of dollars in grant money has been doled out to a small handful of organizations. The move by the Obama administration was actually greeted by approval by Resolve, the largest infertility support organization. Resolve would like to see funding to help with awareness of infertility issues in general.
