Abortion providers upset that stigma keeps them from students
by Kelli
A persistent stigma surrounding abortion ensures that the people who provide these services continue to be construed as morally corrupt.
Just like the original version of HB 305 would have banned abortion clinic employees from providing any type of services in public schools, some states have taken this idea to an extreme. Last year, Kansas attempted to ban abortion providers from schools altogether in a sweeping provision that could have prevented parents who work at Planned Parenthood from volunteering to chaperone their kids’ field trips.
That measure didn’t pass, but the attitude remains — people who support abortion shouldn’t be allowed around kids. Other types of professions aren’t singled out in this way in proposed laws.
~ Tara Culp-Ressler, ThinkProgress.org, April 14
[Note: The author describes Louisiana HB 305, “spearheaded by Rep. Frank Hoffmann (R)”, as “intend[ing] to prohibit abortion providers from disseminating materials in publicly funded schools. The original version of the bill would have prevented employees at groups like Planned Parenthood from providing any type of instruction to students whatsoever — but Hoffman ended up amending the legislation to narrow the scope, banning abortion providers from instructing students about topics related to ‘human sexuality or family planning.'” For an example of some of Planned Parenthood’s finest student info on sexuality, see this info on Take Care Down There.]

The author is right: I do see hard-core abortion supporters, the type who would actually work at abortion centers, as morally corrupt. But let’s remember also that these are businesses. Most abortion centers are for-profit, and even “non-profit” PP charges hundreds of dollars per abortion. Even absent the moral corruption angle, parents understandably don’t want commercial marketing in their kids’ schools. If representatives of Barnes & Noble came in wanting to teach a reading class, while taking the opportunity to mention that oh by the way, the Nook is amazing and you can get one at Barnes & Noble, schools would shut that down in a heartbeat. But abortion workers can teach the health class and say oh by the way, all of this is available at my abortion facility? Yeah, I’m hugely skeptical.

Stigma? Construed?? waaaaaaaaahhhhh The abortionists are the victims here? LOL
Their feelings are hurt that we don’t embrace the killing that they do day in and day out??? And nobody wants to be an abortionist when they grow up because we have made it out to be bad???? And students don’t enroll in How to Kill Babies 101 and Advanced How to Maim Women??? Medical students refuse to do harm???
Good!!
Your days are numbered old men and women who kill for profit. Best to drive your fancy cars back to your fancy homes and retire in luxury and get a good night’s sleep. If you can.
Poor little picked on abortionists. :(

“Other types of professions aren’t singled out in this way …”
Not true — I wouldn’t want anyone representing the oldest profession to come to my children’s school to discuss sexuality, even though they may be very knowledgeable about the topic.

Jack,
Please do not start something. Please do not come here and start talking about the prostitutes that you know that are some of the nicest people you have ever met.
Do not derail this thread.
From a mod that cares. :)

Abortion is the only profession that involves killing human beings, of course it should be singled out. It would be like allowing professional mob erasers to teach safety classes. “Eh Joey, you don’t wanna do your homework? Come, take a walk with me out back, we’ll talk about your commitment to the class.”

I’m currently playing a solo on the world’s smallest violin for these poor, discriminated against abortion employees.

? An email might have been nice. Wasn’t planning on saying anything like that anyway, didn’t see anything mean in Eric’s comment.
I don’t think parents should be banned from chaperoning even if they work for PP, but I’ve never heard anything whinier and more ridiculous than complaining abortion providers not being able to come peddle their crap to kids.
I wouldn’t want Monsanto reps to come teach the kids about agriculture, either.

Eric I kind of think that’s the wrong tack to take….
Part of hte reason they ought not be allowed in schools is that they are and do and will profit from kids listening to their advice. How achingly convenient – tell kids sex is fine and do it “safely” and oh, btw, you can get all your supplies, tests, and if a mistake occurs and you behave like kids and make mistakes, we can take care of STDs and pesky pregnancies! and we won’t even tell your parents!!!! ZOMG. YAY!!! SEX!!!!
I mean at least with prostitutes they wouldn’t be benefiting if the kids were to have sex or not.
But I don’t know. I’m not sure we need to get all up in arms about what professions can speak to schools about what subjects. First of all it’s the teacher’s job. Second of all, I’m not necessarily sure that a PP employee is saying anything much different than what a teacher might say.
And third of all, oh boohoo about the stigma. There’s a stigma because the very essence of what you do (abortion workers) is inherently bad and against human nature. So yeah people are gonna balk at having someone who is paid or volunteers to kill babies talk to their kids.
On the other hand, in real life, I will teach my offspring to not hate people because of what they do. But to rather be wise as serpents but innocent as doves.
This was a rambling comment.

And also I wouldn’t be upset about a fellow parent who works at PP chaperoning my kid. I don’t think they’re all monsters or whatever, just misguided. I think we ought to try and treat people with respect because they are humans. Yeah, they do bad things. We all do. We won’t win hearts by shielding our kids from them.

And can we stop calling it bumpin uglies? That is one of the grossest euphemisms for sex.

They are construed as morally corrupt because they are morally corrupt. Granted, some are more corrupt than others but i sure wouldn’t be comfortable leaving my kids in someone’s care like that when they were little.
That’s just me.

Its up to individual principles to establish “relationships” with community organizations. If anything, parents need to be more involved in their school’s LSCs and communicate with the principle weekly to evaluate what the admins are doing. Principles have wide discretion in allowing or not allowing any groups in their schools. But the public school system is run by left-wing liberals so…..
The issue is that the public schools are looking for money everywhere. If PP knocks and contributes good bucks in order to network with a school, an unscrupulous principal will let them in.
Public schools however successful academically, cannot be trusted in what influences they expose our children to.
For these reasons, I fully support the current version of HB305 and other bills that will restrict PP’s access to schools.

Your days are numbered old men and women who kill for profit. Best to drive your fancy cars back to your fancy homes and retire in luxury and get a good night’s sleep. – yes, buy shares in a chemical abortion drug company. Who else did that?
Abortion is the only profession that involves killing human beings – death row prisoners self-administer!?! Soldiers? Police?
And can we stop calling it bumpin uglies? – the “beast with two backs” ?
They are construed as morally corrupt because they are morally corrupt. – that is opinion, not fact.

Abortions make you giddy.
When you write Reality it sounds like you are smiling. Laughing and having a hoot imagining all of the young mothers exercising their “right” to kill their own babies. today.
You constantly crow about “since the dawn of time” mothers killed their own because it makes you happy. It makes you glad.
What breaks our hearts fills yours with glee.
And chemical abortions will keep you just as thrilled I am sure.
Like you will have the last laugh. Hee Hee Ha Ha Ho Ho!!
MOTHERS WILL ALWAYS KILL THEIR OWN!
NEENER NEENER NEENER!
And that is sick. You need help.

As a mod I have THOUSANDS of your comments I can weed through. THOUSANDS that speak to your joy at how you think you and your side are WINNING! Because mothers continue to kill their own babies. They will kill their own today. And you are glad.
And now type
No, I don’t. No, I’m not.
Or cut and paste my words and type No after each one.
Make my day.

Abortions make you giddy. – untrue statement number whatever. Sounds like they might do so for you though. My position, my case, is all about womens reproductive freedom and rights, and in all areas. Claims that I find abortions wonderful or want every pregnancy terminated are fabrications.
When you write Reality it sounds like you are smiling. – I can’t help what goes on in your mind.
Laughing and having a hoot imagining all of the young mothers exercising their “right” to kill their own babies. today. – I take no joy from abortions. I take joy from women not being subjugated by those who think they have some sort of right to dictate the morals and behaviors of others.
You constantly crow about “since the dawn of time” mothers killed their own because it makes you happy. It makes you glad. – more untruths. I state it as a fact, not for any purpose of ‘crowing’. Abortion does not make me happy. It does not make me glad. Women not being controlled and restricted by the self-appointed and self-righteous is what makes me happy and glad.
What breaks our hearts fills yours with glee. – and what breaks my heart fills yours with glee. If you are speaking of the act of abortion then no, it does not fill my heart with glee. If you are speaking of women having power and control of their own lives then yes, that does fill my heart with glee.
And chemical abortions will keep you just as thrilled I am sure. – whatever it takes to stop women being forced to comply with the thinking of others will keep me thrilled.
Like you will have the last laugh. Hee Hee Ha Ha Ho Ho!! – this is not a laughing matter.
MOTHERS WILL ALWAYS KILL THEIR OWN! – quite evidently not.
NEENER NEENER NEENER! – ???
And that is sick. – no, it simply doesn’t comply with your desire to dictate to others.
You need help. – no, it is women who need help. Constantly. Still. In their struggle against those who seek to suppress them.
As a mod I have THOUSANDS of your comments I can weed through. THOUSANDS that speak to your joy at how you think you and your side are WINNING! – and? I’ve seen the very same thing from you. Abortion exists. It is here. It is here to stay, because women demand that it be so. The only winning or losing to be done is over it being safe, legal and none of your business.
Because mothers continue to kill their own babies. They will kill their own today. And you are glad. – I am glad that women are somewhat free.
And now type…..No, I don’t. No, I’m not…..Or cut and paste my words and type No after each one…..Make my day. – OK. Let’s take a look at a few,
“You didn’t watch it. – I did. I have also seen similar things previously, both moving and still images.”
“You didn’t own it. – I refer you to my April 14, 6:29pm comment”
“You didn’t watch the death of that child. – I watched the death of a fetus.”
“You didn’t see the blood or the body parts. – oh yes I did.”
You made untrue, unfounded personal statements. My responses exceeded the merit, the accuracy, of the claims you made.
And here you write – Abortions make you giddy…..it sounds like you are smiling. Laughing and having a hoot…..it makes you happy. It makes you glad. – redolent of the type of language we recognise in the lexicon of the troll.
Your constant striving to claim that my position is focussed on maximising abortions rather than maximising womens freedoms and rights, being glad that there are abortions rather than glad that women have autonomy, demonstrates the need to keep working to ensure and protect those freedoms and rights.

I call BS. Always.
You type under the moniker of “reality” for years and years and you are up to 5,000 + comments here and nobody even knows if you are male or female.
And you wonder if I am who I say I am??
I am who I say I am.
My name is Carla. Click on my name. WOW. There is my photo! There is my abortion story on video! There are the letters to my daughter who died violently in my abortion.
Who is hiding and pretending?? LOL I have to wonder if you are an abortionist. You would have to be to come here and pretend you care.
Put a sock in it.

Seriously I always wondered the reason some are just so vague and calculating. I agree with you Carla. Many of us have opened up and shared ourselves, sometimes to the point of a total “expose” if you will. Pro-aborts seem unwilling (or perhaps unable) to put that human element in the equation.
All of them on this thread hide under undescript monikers. Some just hit and run. “reality” seems to be the exception to the hit and run but his aloftness does not fit his stance of caring for women…

I think Reality has shared quite a bit of personal information. He says he’s a man in his mid fifties who has one son older than I am and a daughter who died at birth. He was raised by a mother he loves and a father who was very strict (who I believe is passed away). He didn’t do as well in school as he was capable of because his peer group degraded those who stood out. He used to be financially well off, after his divorce and career change he is now less so. He’s pro-choice because he witnessed girls having to deal with unplanned pregnancies in high school and he believes that abortion will help this. He has some physical health issues that he deals with that make his life a little more difficult. He has a girlfriend who is older than him. This is all stuff he’s said publicly on this blog so it’s not like I’m trying to “out” him or criticize him or anything, I just think that saying he’s being secretive or whatever isn’t particularly accurate. I actually know more about him (well, what he claims about himself you never know online lol) than I do a couple of the pro-life regular commenters! I do wish I knew his name though.
I think it’s pretty easy to dehumanize those who dehumanize others. Reality dehumanizes the unborn and even newborns at times, so I get being upset with him. But I think that he’s still a human being and should be treated with respect and criticisms of him should focus on his nasty viewpoints about babies, instead of him as a person. I just don’t think it gets us anywhere.
I’m not accusing anyone on this thread of being mean to Reality, I am just talking about how we treat him and pro-choicers in general. I do it myself at times, I get upset about their cavalier and cruel attitude to the unborn and I’m sometimes mean or dehumanizing to them. But I’m working on that because I don’t believe us versus them is getting us anywhere.

I call BS. Always. – you can call what you want, that doesn’t change the truth.
You type under the moniker of “reality” for years and years – and I have explained why.
and you are up to 5,000 + comments here and nobody even knows if you are male or female. – given Jack’s elegant and accurate description of me (and even ‘thomas r.” displays knowledge of me despite his attempt to describe me as ‘alofteness’) , if you are going to claim that I have made 5,000+ comments and you don’t even know if I am male or female, that raises some questions about you.
And you wonder if I am who I say I am?? – I have no more certainty of the things you say than you do of me, now have I.
I am who I say I am. – as am I. I don’t claim you aren’t who you say you are so why do you claim such of me. Simple dislike is a bit inadequate.
My name is Carla. Click on my name. WOW. There is my photo! There is my abortion story on video! There are the letters to my daughter who died violently in my abortion. – and? That is no more a verification of anything than if I did the same thing. This is the internet, with much that can be done on computers.
Who is hiding and pretending?? – not me. How about you?
LOL I have to wonder if you are an abortionist. – I’m not.
You would have to be to come here and pretend you care. – I call BS on that one.
I do believe you are who you say you are. I believe you do and have done the things you say you do and have done. I don’t like your position on a number of things. I don’t like the way you want to dictate to others. But I don’t base my arguments on calling who and what you are into question. I think what you are demonstrating here is that old sports saying of ‘attacking the player rather than the ball’ or whatever it is. I ask myself why you feel the need to do so.
Put a sock in it. – typical, silence those who speak what you don’t want heard. Keep your socks off other peoples feet.
