Pro-life blog buzz 5-29-15

- Over at National Review, Dr. Michael New explains why it is too early for social liberals to be doing a victory dance over a new Gallup poll showing those reporting to be liberal equal to social conservatives:
Last year, social conservatives outpolled social liberals by a 34-30 margin. This year, it was a 31-31 split. This represents a relatively small change that could have been caused by a slight bias in the sample.
While the effects of an onslaught of positive media attention to same sex marriage, seems to have successful in moving public opinion to the liberal category, that does not appear to be the case with the life issues.
Opposition to abortion and pornography has held relatively constant, and a smaller percentage of Americans now find physician-assisted suicide morally acceptable.
- Secular Pro Life commends an Australian mother who fought to obtain a birth certificate for her stillborn child lost in the second trimester. Her campaign was discussed in this Perth Now article, which actually showed a picture of her deceased child, named Blake. Imagine American outlets showing this.
- Pro Life 365 has a thought -provoking post listing “11 ways the sexual revolution enslaved women,” including the introduction of contraception, rejecting motherhood, and seeing children as commodities for adult gratification.
- A Pro Life Blogs post discusses documents obtained that show the true state of affairs for Ohio abortion facilities. It’s a safe bet that Ohio is not an anomaly:
Operation Rescue has released a new special investigative report detailing deteriorating conditions and horrific injuries at Ohio’s eight remaining abortion facilities.
The report is based on secret records from the Ohio Department of Health that have never before been made public, that show that at least 47 abortion-related medical emergencies or complications took place at the eight abortion clinics since 2011, including the abortion-related death of a 22-year-old African-American woman named Lakisha Wilson.
The documents also detail an alarming laundry list of life-threatening safety hazards at those same abortion facilities.

Liberal elites do not tolerate any dissension among their ranks. If one wants to carry the banner of “liberal,” then one MUST be pro-abortion. So they crow at any poll which indicates an increase in liberal political identity.
But common citizens in the poll do not realize that they are not allowed to be pro-life. Some of them even imagine that “liberal” policies are pro-family and pro-child, and these voters are quite comfortable with calling themselves liberal and pro-life at the same time.
The statistical observation at National Review makes an obvious point: Consecutive surveys of 34-30 and 31-31 are essentially identical. They are within the margin of error for statistical surveys.

Well, is anybody actually doing “a victory dance,” or is this yet one more made-up, hypothetical thing?

Here too (especially here) methinks the sense of straw is strong.

Well sure. Who do you see saying differently?

Check out some the links in the National Review article. Here is HuffPo, doing the cha-cha:

Del, okay, but how can you argue with what is stated, there?
Yeah, a 4 point “gap closure” is no big deal, necessarily, but it’s part of an undeniable trend over the past 16 years.
When Gallup’s data first began, it was 39/21 (almost twice as many) people who were “Very Conservative or Conservative” on social issues, compared to those who were “Very Liberal or Liberal.”
Now, they are the same – it’s gone from an 86% lead for the former group, to zero, to where they are tied. We would have to be insane to pretend like that’s “nothing,” really.
So, for Dr. Michael New at the National Review (hey, it rhymes) to be focusing on only the last two years is just plain stupid and lame – aimed at people too gullible to know any better. A “doctor,” huh? Have to laugh….
Now, if we go on down the page at your link, we see that on economic issues, the “Very Conservative or Conservatives” have been much more constant, and have maintained a big lead. In my opinion, this is how we should be – economically conservative and socially liberal. Unfortunately, it seems like economic conservatism really doesn’t matter, when faced with the economic part of social liberalism.
To be honest, the labels of “liberal” and “conservative” don’t matter, in that they don’t mean much.
In England, the conservative party just defeated the liberal party. But it makes little difference — both parties are socialists.
In America, we had a grand conservative takeover in Congress and in state governments. But the deficits still grow, and the children still die. And now children are being purchased and raised in homes by same-sex parents, and it is becoming dangerous to even think that this is not a good thing. Meanwhile, the movement to kill off our sick and elderly grows ever stronger.
I am quite content to live in a nation that identifies itself as “liberal,” as long as it is a pro-life and pro-family sort of liberal — like the Democratic Party used to be, years ago in my youth.
In England, the conservative party just defeated the liberal party. But it makes little difference — both parties are socialists. – what causes you to come out with this stuff Del? Seriously?
In America, we had a grand conservative takeover in Congress and in state governments. – you could hardly call it ‘grand’. ‘Dismal’ would be a better word. As evidenced by But the deficits still grow, and the children still die.
And now children are being purchased and raised in homes by same-sex parents, – just like heterosexual couples ‘purchase’ children?
and it is becoming dangerous to even think that this is not a good thing. – ‘misguided’ would be the more accurate term.
Meanwhile, the movement to kill off our sick and elderly grows ever stronger. – driven by? Ah yes, the sick and the elderly. Wanting a choice. Not being forced.
I am quite content to live in a nation that identifies itself as “liberal,” as long as it is a pro-life and pro-family sort of liberal — like the Democratic Party used to be, years ago in my youth. – you can’t stop the earth from turning Del. “Liberals” are pro-life and pro-family, just not how you think it should be.
