Virginia pro-abort specialty plate funds diverted to help pregnant moms in crisis
Well, that was slick.
I previously reported VA abortion proponents were attempting to pass legislation authorizing a pro-abortion specialty plate, with $15 of the $25 fee for each plate going to Planned Parenthood of VA after the 1st 1k are sold….
Catholic World News succinctly reported this week’s events:
Legislators in VA have voted to approve a specialty license plate with the message “Trust Women/Respect Choice.” Under the version of the bill approved by the state senate, proceeds from the license plate would go to PP; the state house bill, however, would direct proceeds to a state fund for pregnant women.
The backstory is a pro-life Republican introduced and passed an amendment in the GOP-controlled House diverting funds away from PP to “a special fund ‘administered by the Board of Health to support women and families who are facing unplanned pregnancy,'” quoting Rachel Larris at RH Reality Check.
Music to my ears, Rachel also noted, “In the U.S., the effort to gain even a bit of ground to promote women’s basic reproductive rights has become a struggle.”
Cry me a river, Rachel. You got Roe v. Wade by judicial fiat. And PP already bilks taxpayers for $350 million every year. What in the h-e-double-bamboo-shoots do you need to “promote”?
The outcome of the bill is uncertain, since the VA Senate is controlled by Democrats. Will either body concede? Diverting specialty plate funds from the intended recipient has never been tried before in VA.
PP is trying to say plate proceeds wouldn’t go to fund abortions but to preventative services. But that’s all an accounting game. And what’s the problem with funding abortion anyway? Where’s PP’s abortion pride?

But that’s all an accounting game.
Well so is diverting plate proceeds to a ‘special fund.’ Perhaps the Republican behind the amendment has a vested interest in that fund. I’m just asking questions.
Cry me a river, Rachel. You got Roe v. Wade by judicial fiat.
It’s called a Supreme Court Decision. We have no dictators in this republic. You have you victories. We have ours.
Here is the outline for the Virginia Pregnant Women Support Fund, direct from the legislation:
§ 32.1-11.6. Virginia Pregnant Women Support Fund; purpose; guidelines.

Dhally,
Are you suggesting that single unwed mothers, under employed or un-employed, are just the ‘target’ markest day traders are seeking out to make a fast buck.
Crisis pregnacny centers and homes for unwed mothers would not be Warren Buffets first ‘choice’ or even last ‘choice’ for an attractive investment opportunity.
Where is the ‘profit’ motive?

Oh, lookie:
VA Senate Restores Planned Parenthood Funding in “Respect Choice” License Plate Bill
Submitted by Kyle on February 17, 2010 – 1:27pm
The Virginia Senate, controlled by Democrats, has passed a measure that would create a specialty state license plate with the message “Trust Women/Respect Choice.” Some of the application fee money paid by drivers who select the plate would go to the Virginia League of Planned Parenthood.
Drivers in Virginia, which loves its vanity plates, already are allowed to select one with the logo “Choose Life.”
Today’s action put the Senate’s bill on the issue in conflict with one passed by the Republican-controlled House of Delegates on Monday. Delegates chose to strip out Planned Parenthood funding and…

Did you hear the liberal humanists have been trying to build an airplane but the can’t get it off the ground. It just will fly with two left wings.
Same reason you don’t see any liberal humanist succeeding on Dancing with the stars. They have two left feel and no sense of rhythm or humor.
The reason that liberal humnists can’t govern is the left hand doesn’t know what the other left hand is doing.
It has been very cold in Washington, D.C.!
How cold was it?
It was so cold I saw a liberal humanist polictician with both left hands in his own pockets!

so instead of putting money into a fund that could help a woman pay rent or fix her car or help with education, they of course decide to help pay for *ahem* “preventative services” which translates as MORE contraceptives and MORE condoms. Condoms don’t fix a broken heart when the guy STILL leaves the woman (even if she has an abortion so he’ll stay with her). Instead of addressing the social economical reasons for abortions, they divert the funds to “protection” that often fails and then leads to MORE abortions.
*rolling eyes*
I’m strangely okay with the State Fund getting the money. It’s not a big revenue producer anyway, I suspect.
Yeah, bulls*it pro-“choicers” actually give a crap about women. The pregnancy fund would actually help women facing crisis pregnancies. All PP can do (since they aren’t funding abortion) is give women some condoms and birth control pills.
Those things aren’t too useful after the fact, now are they?
I’m all for a program that will MAKE the pro-aborts who are buying the plates fund a kind of reproductive rights that’s all about, you know, the right to reproduce, rather than the right to kill.
Helping to prevent violence against pregnant women is the kind of “preventative care” we need.
Yeah, baby!
Hey, I’ve been having a bit of a struggle promoting my basic reproductive rights — I’m 4 months pregnant with our fourth child in well under four years. Our third born, who has epilepsy, will be less than a year old when this one is born. Anyone here think the left, liberals, or so called “prochoicers” support a woman’s choice? Ha!
Good on you, Elizabeth! Congratulations on your new one! And, because my gut tells me that you might be under a bit of stress, I’ll keep you in my prayers.
Yes, Elizabeth, God bless you and your babies, born and unborn.
All the best to you and your four Aces, from a couple with eight. Lots of prayers, lots of love, and they’ll make you proud! God Bless!
It might as well say “Trust Women” “Respect Dead Babies”
i can’t believe planned parenthood is not out of business already. There needs to be some investigations of this fraud…
I say disallow the plates altogether.
Elizabeth, you said “Anyone here think the left, liberals, or so called “prochoicers” support a woman’s choice? Ha! ”
As a pro-choice person of the lefty liberal persuasion, I can tell you that I think it’s just fine and dandy that you are expecting your fourth. I have three of my own, which was plenty for me. So by all means, have a huge passel of kids if that’s what you want to do. Just respect the fact that some women don’t want that, and shouldn’t be forced to do that.
