Mother and child reunite after 77 years
I loved that baby so much. I wanted what was best.
~ 100 year-old Minka Disbrow (pictured right with daughter) describing her feelings over giving up for adoption her baby who had been conceived as a result of rape, Associated Press, January 2
Mother and child were reunited 77 years later.

i love how she said ” i loved that baby.” this is a sweet start to my day. i also believe if i ever conceived out of rape i would pick adoption.
What an amazing testimony to the power of patience and love and life.
I love a happy ending!
Doesn’t look like regret to me!!
Precious mother and daughter. WOW.
This is indescribably touching, and uplifting to me. Ditto Carla; doesn’t look to me as either of them are worse off for mom’s having chosen to love and let live…
I have read or heard so many testimonies of women who conceived from rape. Those who chose to kill the babies have testified that the abortion was even worse than being raped again, while those who chose life have testified that the choice to put the child’s best interests ahead of their negative emotions re: the rape have found it very therapeutic and redemptive, bringing good out of evil. Two wrongs really don’t make a right; they just compound the evil and exacerbate its pain, damage, and negativity.
The circumstances of one’s conception really don’t diminish the value of one’s life; just ask Oprah, Rebecca Kiessling, and others who were conceived in rape and were not killed by abortion.
And, abortion is just as dangerous, and as violent to a woman’s body and soul, as rape, regardless of how the child was conceived.
I have saved this photo as a testimony to the power and beauty of mercy triumphing over justice. Speaking of justice, however, it has always baffled me how pro-abortion women’s groups have never seemed to grasp or care about the obvious danger to women that destroying the star witnesses against rapists – any children they have sired in their crimes- and flushing evidence down a garbage disposal- poses. And thanks to the sting operations of the likes of Mark Crutcher and Lila Rose, the coverup of statutory rape rampant among abortion profiteers does not suggest a whole lot of concern for women, mercy for vulnerable – or justice.
But then, these are not just or merciful people, who slaughter the innocent, endanger the vulnerable, and protect the violent for reward.
jtm,
Excellent comment!!
I love this story. Their smiling faces say it all.
Her body, her choice and all that jazz……..
No matter how a baby conceived that baby is wanted and will be loved by someone. That baby has a right to a crack at life.
You’ve just GOT to bring in your “yea, but adoptions don’t always work out” into it and spoil it for everybody, don’t you, Denise? *SIGH!*
Sorry..but this is a WONDERFUL story!
Mother: So, what did you do on your first day of school and the next 73 years?
Daughter: Nothing.

(Denise) Yes, it is a very nice story. This isn’t really about adoption but about an adoption reunion.
It just reminded me of other stories about reunions after adoptions. They don’t in any way mitigate that this is a nice story.
And I’m not hung-up on adoption in particular not working out. It is just true that adoption reunions can go in different directions. Some of them work out beautifully and others can cause terrible trouble.
Attorney General v. X
Gorgeous story, but PLEASE Jill, or whoever posted this….
Birth parents don’t “give up” their children.
They place their children. They make an adoption plan for their children. They choose a new (or in the case of open adoption, they gift a second) loving adoptive family for their children.
Birth parents don’t give up, they give life.
