3D technology helping to advance pro-life message

by Carder

3d fetus

No matter how hard they try, abortion advocates cannot hide from the technology that will continue to make their arguments moot. The latest business to capitalize on the advances in ultrasound technology may not be one every parent longs to patronize, but it is another reminder of the reality of life in the womb as a 3D printer will create a virtual baby for parents.

Wendy Davis trolls for Planned Parenthood speaking gigs in incredible shrinking woman video

2015-02-12_1143b

The Houston Chronicle has posted an article on Wendy Davis’s new aspiration of “testing out professional speaking” after her gubernatorial effort in Texas bombed:

Davis, a former Democratic state senator from Fort Worth, recently began an “exploratory” relationship with the American Program Bureau….

“We’re trying to determine whether or not we can do the job for her, so we have not made any contractual relationship yet,” said Bob Davis, senior vice president at the agency.

The bureau primarily is pitching Wendy Davis to college and community groups as an authority on women’s health and education issues.

2015-02-12_1151But Davis clearly has a lucrative run on the Planned Parenthood affiliate speaking circuit in her sights. Her bio oddly morphs into a Planned Parenthood infomercial:

In 2013, Davis captured the nation’s attention with her 13-hour filibuster, which demanded that she stand the entire time….

While that bill unfortunately passed into law - a law that is still being challenged - Davis hasn’t stopped working for women’s rights for safe, legal reproductive care. She understands exactly what it means to depend on accessible, safe and affordable care services. “It’s paramount that women have access to the incredible preventive care that Planned Parenthood provides. When I was a young woman, Planned Parenthood was the only source of healthcare I had - for several years. Contrary to what some believe, Planned Parenthood provides a multitude of services, including breast and cervical cancer screenings, HIV testing, routine gynecological exams, diabetes screenings and family planning services. To restrict care for low-income women would mean setting society back decades - to say nothing of putting further strains on the lives of women who need access to these essential healthcare services.” Davis fought her best against Texas Senate Bill 5, the law that attempted to shutter all but eight women’s health clinics, but her efforts were dampened by then-governor Rick Perry.

2015-02-12_1142Likewise, APB Speakers’ comical YouTube promo video features Davis as the incredible shrinking half-woman appearing in the oddest of places, who – again – pitches solely to Planned Parenthood.

Tacky doesn’t begin to describe the production quality. Really, Wendy? lol…

Pro-life vid of day: SBA List prez – “Abortion as a weapon is dead”

by Hans Johnson

After last year’s mid-term elections, Susan B. Anthony List president Marjorie Dannenfelser noted how the “War On Women” meme had fizzled as a record number of pro-life women won their campaigns.

She took her comments further recently at the National Press Club, declaring that ”abortion is dead as a weapon against pro-life candidates.” From Townhall.com:

Wishy-washy pro-life Republicans “on the losing side of history”

Wishy-washy1by Kelli

Over the past years we social conservatives have heard time and again about abortion being a loser at the polls. Just a few weeks ago a caucus of Quisling women Republicans sold out babies who will be killed by late term abortion. They did this by posturing as some kind of latter-day Machiavellis whose intimate knowledge of the uterus would save the GOP from folly. In reality, they found it was easy to talk pro-life when there was no danger of actually being called upon to vote on the issue. Their thinking and the thinking of most establishment Republicans is sadly out of step with the rest of the nation….

More restrictions on abortion is a huge winner in the GOP. Any GOP politician who is breathes the pro-abort Republican mantra of “I personally oppose abortion but if you want to kill your kid, have at it” should recognize that they are on the losing side of history….

The abortion industry had been knocked back on its heels and the nation is on a trajectory to opposing abortion. The insane and bloody practice may hang on in the dark corners of society but it is being rejected everywhere.

Any politician who tells you that they don’t want to run on abortion because it is divisive is lying to you. They don’t want to run on abortion because they are pro-aborts.

Pro-life vid of day: Pastor bluntly preaches “abortion is murder”

by Hans Johnson

Matt Chandler is the pastor of The Village Church, an 11,000-member mega-church in Flower Mound, Texas.  But he is no mild-tongued prosperity preacher. In an annual sermon, he faces the topic of abortion head on, as he has personally faced his own mortality in recovering from the removal of a malignant brain tumor, saying:

I need to — with all the boldness that the Holy Spirit will grant to me — tell everyone in this room that abortion is murder. It is the murder of a human being, I’m going to have to say it, I’m going to show it to you in the Word, I want to prove it to you with Science. … It’s a holocaust like the world has yet to see.

This video is an excerpt from last year’s sermon:

Abortion advocates definitely do not like the word “dismemberment”

2015-02-10_1516

Bloomberg journalist Esme E. Deprez was tasked with informing readers about the Unborn Child Protection from Dismemberment Act, which last month was introduced in both Kansas and Oklahoma.

The writing experience obviously wasn’t pleasant for her.

But, of course. To be forced to describe a “technique” that dismembers small, recognizable humans – Dilation and Evacuation abortions – can’t be fun.

Which is the point.

Deprez preempted pro-life depictions of D&E abortions with a reminder that they are “common… used in 96% of second-trimester abortions.”

In other words, everybody’s doing them, so they must be ok.

Yet pro-lifers are making D&Es sound so… depraved. Deprez tried to make us the bad guys for “deploying grisly language… to rebrand a medical procedure with a new and unsettling name.” I’ll own that.

Indeed, here is how the bills describe the “medical procedure” they aim to ban:

… to dismember a living unborn child and extract him or her one piece at a time from the uterus through use of clamps, grasping forceps, tongs, scissors or similar instruments that, through the convergence of two rigid levers, slice, crush, and/or grasp a portion of the unborn child’s body to cut or rip it off.

No surprise, abortion proponents told Deprez the bills “inaccurately describe” D&E abortions with “misleading and inflammatory language.”

Which raises the obvious follow-up question: Well then, what is an accurate description?

Which – surprise – Deprez didn’t ask.

carhart closeupBut here’s another surprise: a late-term abortionist who upstaged pro-lifers with an even more graphic description of D&E abortions – LeRoy “Crock-Pot” Carhart (pictured right).

In his dissent after the U.S. Supreme Court narrowly overturned Nebraska’s Partial Birth Abortion Ban in 2000, Justice Anthony Kennedy quoted testimony by Carhart (I’m removing footnote references and adding paragraph breaks for ease of reading):

As described by Dr. Carhart, the D&E procedure requires the abortionist to use instruments to grasp a portion (such as a foot or hand) of a developed and living fetus and drag the grasped portion out of the uterus into the vagina.

Dr. Carhart uses the traction created by the opening between the uterus and vagina to dismember the fetus, tearing the grasped portion away from the remainder of the body. The traction between the uterus and vagina is essential to the procedure because attempting to abort a fetus without using that traction is described by Dr. Carhart as “pulling the cat’s tail” or “drag[ging] a string across the floor, you’ll just keep dragging it. It’s not until something grabs the other end that you are going to develop traction.”

The fetus, in many cases, dies just as a human adult or child would: It bleeds to death as it is torn from limb from limb. The fetus can be alive at the beginning of the dismemberment process and can survive for a time while its limbs are being torn off. Dr. Carhart agreed that “[w]hen you pull out a piece of the fetus, let’s say, an arm or a leg and remove that, at the time just prior to removal of the portion of the fetus, … the fetus [is] alive.”

Dr. Carhart has observed fetal heartbeat via ultrasound with “extensive parts of the fetus removed,” and testified that mere dismemberment of a limb does not always cause death because he knows of a physician who removed the arm of a fetus only to have the fetus go on to be born “as a living child with one arm.” At the conclusion of a D&E abortion no intact fetus remains. In Dr. Carhart’s words, the abortionist is left with “a tray full of pieces.”

Well, ack. Talk about “inflammatory language.”

2015-02-11_0846What the abortion crowd obviously prefers is technical language. Quoting from the 2009 edition of the National Abortion Federation Handbook on how to commit D&E abortions:

After about 16 weeks’ gestation, the 16-mm suction cannula alone is not sufficient, and forceps extraction is necessary….

Once the forceps has passed through the internal os, open the jaws as widely as possible to encircle the fetal tissue….

After 16 weeks’ gestation, fetal skeletal development is such that the surgeon can manually sense the presence of fetal parts within the closed jaws….

After grasping a fetal part, withdraw the forceps while gently rotating it. This maneuver brings the fetus in the lower uterine segment before the grasped fetal part is separated (if necessary) and removed….

If a fetal extremity is brought through the cervix without separation, advance the forceps beyond the extremity to grasp part of the fetal trunk….

During the procedure, try to identify and keep track of fetal parts as they are removed. A “pouch” or surgical pan at the edge of the table to catch fetal parts can assist this process….

[T]issue examination at the end of the procedure helps to verify complete evacuation. Identify major fetal parts, including the calvarium, pelvis, spine, and extremities….

Measurement of fetal foot length has been used to estimate gestational age after abortion….

Fair warning, Justice Kennedy won’t like a sterile description of D&E abortions if and when a dismemberment ban reaches the Supreme Court. Again, from his aforementioned dissenting opinion:

Words invoked by the majority, such as “transcervical procedures,” “[o]smotic dilators,” “instrumental disarticulation,” and “paracervical block,” may be accurate and are to some extent necessary, but for citizens who seek to know why laws on this subject have been enacted across the Nation, the words are insufficient.

Repeated references to sources understandable only to a trained physician may obscure matters for persons not trained in medical terminology.

But, of course, obscuring is the point. Actually, NAF goes beyond obscuring to erasing. The diagram in its handbook of a D&E abortion completely omits the object of the surgery. Imagine a diagram of an appendectomy with no appendix. And yet (click to enlarge)…

2015-02-10_1738

But here is an accurate depiction of a D&E abortion, about which abortion proponents can possibly have no argument, since it merely illustrates their sterile description (click to enlarge):

DEabortiongraphic

Quoting Deprez again:

“Abortion care can be, in the abstract, deeply upsetting and the anti-abortion movement using the word ‘dismemberment’ is not an accident,” said Carole Joffe, a reproductive health sociologist at the University of California at San Francisco. “It puts the pro-choice movement on the defensive.”

And why not?

Are babies on TV shows a ratings disaster?

Mad About Youby Carder

In real life, the arrival of a baby is cause for joy and celebration. On a TV series, however, a birth marks not the beginning… but the beginning of the end.

In many cases, the addition of a new baby to the cast has been the show’s “jump the shark” moment — the turning point after which the series begins to experience a noticeable decline. It can’t be a coincidence that a number of once-popular shows left the air just a season or two after a baby’s arrival.

  • At New Feminism, Jennifer Lahl decries California’s new bill that would allow birth certificates to become politicized “by allowing each parent to self-identify as mother, father, or simply ‘parent.'” Lahl argues that this could potentially do a great disservice to “adoptees and those born of anonymous donors”:

The birth certificate legally documents who a child’s parents are. That is, who the birth mother and birth father are. It is a record of who is genetically related to a child. It is not intended to be a means by which adults decide what they want to be called. Rather, it answers the question, who can this child’s beginning be traced to? Who gave birth? Who died?

  • Secular Pro-Life says Planned Parenthood supporters are blatantly lying (shocker, I know!) about the Title X Abortion Provider Prohibition Act, which SPL states “will not reduce government funding for women’s health care. Not by a single penny! The Act will merely affect how Title X funding is distributed to the health care entities seeking family planning grants.”

What this means is the facilities that perform abortions “will be passed over in favor of those that do not. Among those that do not are more than 8,000 Federally Qualified Health Centers — not-for-profit neighborhood health clinics that provide affordable medical care on a sliding scale.” More than 8,000 (see graphic, left). And yet, Planned Parenthood wants the public to believe that they’re the only place women can get medical care like breast exams, mammogram referrals, and pap smears.

Sometimes facts don’t fit on bumper stickers as well as hysterics do.

  • John Smeaton weighs in on Canada’s recent Supreme Court decision ruling that doctors may help their patients commit suicide:

This heart-breaking decision will not only affect our Canadian readers, but will inevitably set an unofficial precedent for courts in the U.S. and elsewhere. Our readers in those countries need to be aware of this decision, in order to be better prepared to oppose this encroaching element of the Culture of Death.

  • Saynsumthn’s Blog cross-posts a Life Dynamics report on a Texas pedophile (Roy Wayne Jackson, Jr., pictured right) who was finally sentenced to two life sentences for raping a 12-year-old and years later, raping the teen’s daughter (beginning at age 8). He also took his second victim for an abortion at age 13, which was not reported by the abortion facility as statutory rape, allowing the abuse to continue. Because the abortion industry winks at sex trafficking and statutory rape, pedophiles are given a pass to continue victimizing girls.
  • At thirtyone8, Andy Moore lists what he deems the best anti-abortion anthems.
  • Wesley J. Smith is understandably alarmed that Robert Latimer, a man convicted of murdering his disabled daughter, has become something of a hero in Canada – and, naturally, the face of the movement supporting euthanasia:

The murder of anyone threatens everyone. Moreover, the vocal support he received revealed an ugly and alarming vein of anti-disability disdain within the Canadian soul.
