  • Minnesota Citizens Concerned for Life discusses an analysis on abortion’s effect on women, released at the World Health Assembly in Geneva, Switzerland, utilizing data from several countries:

Documented complications include hemorrhage, infection, cervical damage, uterine perforation, pelvic disease and retained fetal or placental tissue. Large record-based studies from Finland, Denmark and the United States found that maternal mortality rates were significantly higher after abortion compared to childbirth.

Long-term risks of abortion, including subsequent preterm birth, infertility, cancer, miscarriage, ectopic pregnancy and placenta previa, can substantially impede future reproductive success. In addition, abortion is associated with increased risk of negative psycho-social consequences. For example, a 2011 meta-analysis published in the British Journal of Psychiatry found an 81 percent increased risk of mental health problems. Anxiety, depression, alcohol and drug use and suicidal behaviors have been found to increase following abortion, along with damage to key relationships.

  • Pro-Life Action League reports on a huge free speech victory for pro-lifers in Rockford, Illinois, home of the infamously profane (and thankfully, now closed) Northern Illinois Women’s Center:

The settlement comes after more than five years of federal litigation stemming from harassment of pro-life individuals and other federal civil rights violations on the part of some members of the Rockford Police Department.

As part of the terms of the settlement, Rockford police officers will be required to attend a training program on citizens’ First Amendment rights, with the specific aim of preventing wrongful arrest of citizens for taking part in constitutionally-protected activities.

by JivinJ, host of the blog, JivinJehoshaphat The Arkansas Legislature has overridden Gov. Beebe’s veto of the state’s 20-week abortion ban. An Alabama health committee heard testimony on legislation to regulate abortion clinics. One ob/gyn noted some of the problems created by circuit-riding abortionists: Matt Phillips, an obstetrician and gynecologist in Montgomery, spoke in favor […]

  • TIME provides more information on the teenage couple in Texas who sued to prevent the young woman’s parents from forcing her to have an abortion:

The baby is due Sept. 16. According to [the baby’s father] Evan, he and R.E.K. — they began dating last summer — knew right away they would have the baby. “We’ve always been against abortion,” says Evan, who wants to become a welder (R.E.K. wants to attend nursing school). “As soon as we found out she was pregnant, we knew we wanted to keep it.”

… It remains to be seen just how involved the girl’s parents will be with their new grandchild. While Burnside and her husband, who is not Evan’s biological father, are being supportive, the girl’s parents may find it harder to play a role: days after the judge’s ruling, Evan, a high school sophomore, married his pregnant girlfriend, a junior, in what Burnside calls a “shotgun” wedding.
