It’s that time of year again, when NARAL Pro-Choice America hosts its annual Blog for Choice Day on January 22, the anniversary of the infamous Roe v. Wade decision.

Likewise, for the third year in a row, pro-lifers will counter with our Ask Them What They Mean When They Say “Choice” Blog Day.

Or Mean Choice Day, for short.

Ironically, Planned Parenthood just announced it was abandoning the term “pro-choice.”

A few facts…

1. The Left heralds abortion as a constitutional right.

2. Facebook allows only people age 13 and over to create personal pages. In other words, every female on Facebook has the legal right to abort.

3. Facebook allows a pro-abortion activist to post instructions on how to commit illegal self-abortions. (Facebook briefly censored the instructions but reposted them and apologized.)

So, logically and objectively speaking, why in the world would Facebook censor information about abortion? Isn’t FB for full disclosure and informed consent?

Would FB actually help promote a surgical procedure but censor what that procedure entails?

Yes, FB does this, and repeatedly, by removing photos showing the reality of abortion.

The latest victim of Facebook’s censorship is Victoria Jackson.

On March 20, 2007, I published a touching email I received from reader Bethany about her miscarried baby, who she named Blessing. Bethany included photos.

With Bethany’s permission, I posted her note and pictures. Not only did that note lead to a lasting friendship between Bethany and myself, she also went on to moderate this blog for several years and many of you know and love her.

In honor of Infant and Pregnancy Loss Awareness Day today, Bethany mentioned that post on her Facebook page. She wrote:

This post about Blessing somehow became so popular that it has been the number one post on Jill’s blog, for years… and if you type “‘miscarriage” in google images, my baby’s picture is the first that shows up.

As a result, I continually get emails from women all over the world who have had miscarriage, and these pictures have helped provide them with closure. (This spurred me to write a book too).

Many of the comments Bethany receives on her post to this day are thankful. Sometimes moms just need to talk. And every now and then one is so sad, like this one that was posted on October 13. I’m breaking it up into paragraphs for easier reading….

• Judie Brown shows examples of a “dysfunctional America” which glorifies “convenience, self-gratification, and tolerance” through an onslaught of messages which, at one time, would have shocked the human conscience.

Case in point: a Facebook meme created by the Care2 organization which attempts to denigrate the pro-life positions on contraception and rape (pictured left). Brown refers us to pro-life blogger Mindy Goorchenko, who says the meme would be accurate if the child were the one portrayed as the flotation device:


Abortion is actually like falling into the water with an innocent child and using him as a flotation device. He dies, while you manage to climb back on shore and dry off.

You do this even while there is a dock just a few feet away which can provide safe harbor until you are able to not only ensure the child’s survival but your own.

Rather than teaching people how to jump with both feet into the treacherous waters as adolescents, along with the often ineffectual life jackets that are notoriously misused by children and adults, we should teach them to avoid the rapids until they are able to swim more effectively, and preferably with a buddy.

A committed buddy, who would sacrifice their own life for yours.
