Pro-life news brief 4-15-15

  • NARAL will be hosting an event where comedians make fun of pro-life pregnancy resource centers:

There’s no shortage of these laughably absurd anecdotes, and NARAL is now hoping to shed light on the manipulative tactics and misinformation of crisis pregnancy centers through an unconventional advocacy event this week in Oakland: a comedy show….

On April 16 at the New Parkway (474 24th St., Oakland), four comedians will speak out about crisis pregnancy centers as part of a comedy event NARAL is organizing called Stand Up for Choice. The show will feature Kurt Braunohler, a Los Angeles-based comedian and the event’s headliner; Nato Green, a San Francisco-based comic and San Francisco Examiner columnist; Aparna Nancherla, a New York-based comic and former writer for W. Kamau Bell’s show Totally Biased; and Eliza Skinner, an LA-based comic and Funny or Die writer. Their stand-up routines will touch on CPCs and other topics….

A majority of the centers — some licensed as community clinics by the state, others unlicensed — referred to fetuses as “babies” and told the women they were “already a mother,” NARAL reported.

Perhaps NARAL’s next move will be to make fun of baby showers and anyone who uses the term “baby bump.”

GOP Leader promises vote redux on 20-week abortion ban; May 7 protest remains scheduled

In a “pen-and-pad sit-down” with reporters today, Republican House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy said the Pain Capable Unborn Child Protection Act is circling back around for a vote. According to Roll Call: McCarthy also said he intended to bring up three measures Republicans pulled from the floor earlier this Congress: a bill banning most abortions after 20 […]

Pro-life protest of Speaker Boehner, Part 2

2015-04-09_1359

On March 25 I was one of eight people arrested outside Speaker Boehner’s office in Washington, DC, as we protested the House GOP’s failure to pass the Pain Capable Unborn Child Protection Act two months after they had failed to pass it on the day they’d promised to pass it.

One of our two goals was to get movement on this 20-week abortion ban, when movement had otherwise stalled by all outward appearances (the other goal being to refocus attention back on the 20-week-plus preborn baby, who feels the excruciating pain of being torn limb from limb when aborted).

Why I’m protesting Speaker Boehner’s office on March 25

3576551_orig (1)March 22 will mark two months since the House was supposed to vote on the Pain Capable Unborn Child Protection Act but didn’t.

All agree the word “debacle” would aptly describe the chain of events surrounding the GOP leadership’s last-minute decision to pull the 20-week abortion ban.

The first object of my wrath was one of the debacle’s ringleaders, Rep. Renee Ellmers, whose locked office I and others protested the day the glorious vote had been scheduled – January 22, the anniversary of Roe v Wade….

AHA’s dangerous foray into cyberbullying

I’m writing today about the latest development in the Abolish Human Abortion saga, because I’m concerned someone may end up dead if this doesn’t stop.

Everyone who spends time online has heard the term “cyberbullying.” Defined, it is:

… bullying that takes place using electronic technology. Electronic technology includes devices and equipment such as cell phones, computers, and tablets as well as communication tools including social media sites, text messages, chat, and websites.

Examples of cyberbullying include mean text messages or emails, rumors sent by email or posted on social networking sites, and embarrassing pictures, videos, websites, or fake profiles.

Particularly note, ”rumors… posted on social networking sites.”

BREAKING: Pro-lifers announce sit-in at Speaker Boehner’s office to #FreeTheBan

On March 25 it will have been just over TWO MONTHS since Republican House leaders reneged on their promise to vote on the Pain Capable Unborn Child Protection Act on January 22, when hundreds of thousands were participating in the March for Life.

If GOP leaders thought we might forget, they were mistaken. More than enough time has passed for them to right their wrong.

Today, I joined pro-life activists Rev. Pat Mahoney and Troy Newman in announcing a peaceful protest and sit-in at Speaker John Boehner’s office on March 25 at 11 a.m.

On February 3, a group of Millennials with Students for Life of America paid a second visit to the Washington, D.C., office of Congresswoman Renee Ellmers.

Ellmers calls herself pro-life but infamously torpedoed a vote on the Pain Capable Unborn Child Protection Act two weeks ago, a bill that would protect babies 20 weeks and older from abortion.
