House to vote on 20-wk abortion ban TODAY – 2nd anniversary of Gosnell conviction

Baby Boy BThe photo, right, is a close-up of the nape of the neck of a 28-week old baby boy whose spinal cord was “snipped” to kill him by late-term abortionist Kermit Gosnell after the baby survived his abortion.

Today marks the two-year anniversary Gosnell was convicted for first degree murder of three babies – of likely thousands killed at his Philadelphia clinic over the course of decades. Gosnell was also convicted for involuntary manslaughter in the agonized death of Karnamaya Mongar by anesthesia overdose during her 2nd-trimester abortion.

GOP’s Abortion Barbie causes a meltdown – of more than just the GOP

I was leaving the One Voice worship service at the Renaissance Hotel in D.C. Wednesday night, on my way to meet fellow pro-lifers at the Dubliner Pub (dichotomous activities, I know, at least for a Protestant :), when Casey Mattox of Alliance Defending Freedom stopped me in the hall.

“They’re pulling the 20-week ban,” said Casey, “and substituting ‘No Taxpayer Funding for Abortion‘.”

Casey started walking again, feeling the urgency to pray he told me later, but I remained frozen, with my mouth agape, watching Casey until he entered the room I’d just exited.

Two significant pro-life bills introduced during 1st week of new Congress

capitol-sun-575Representative Diane Black just issued a press statement announcing that she, along with Reps. Bill Flores, Jackie Walorski, Chris Smith, Joe Pitts, and over 80 House cosponsors, have reintroduced the Title X Abortion Provider Prohibition Act,” which would prohibit any organization that provide abortions from receiving Title X Family Planning dollars.

  • Down on the Pharm says that by reducing human life to nothing more than a dollar figure, we are one step away from forced abortions – in America:

The Congressional Budget Office has announced that if we pass Trent Franks’ bill H.R. 1797 restricting late term abortions, it could add $400 billion to the federal deficit. Philip Hodges at Godfather politics points out that this might be the first time that the politicians ever cared about the deficit, now that it can be used to push abortion.

  • Wesley J. Smith says that laws dealing with Physician Orders for Life-Sustaining Treatment (POLST) “are increasingly authorizing doctors to unilaterally overturn surrogate wishes and patient advance directives….”

The laws vary from state to state, but in Vermont and Maryland, a physician can place a Do Not Resuscitate (DNR) order on a patient’s chart without the consent of the patient or designated patient advocate. Smith writes:

Not coincidentally, Vermont has a single payer healthcare plan it can’t pay for. Some have called for the cost savings to come from assisted suicide legalization – now done – and healthcare rationing.

Stanek to testify for nationwide 20-week abortion ban

Sponsor to show reality of late-term abortions

Trent-FranksTomorrow pro-life Republican Congressman Trent Franks will hold a hearing in the Subcommittee on the Constitution and Civil Justice, where he is chairman, on the District of Columbia Pain-Capable Unborn Child Protection Act, of which he is lead sponsor.

And now that bill has grown by leaps and bounds. Reported the Washington Post today:

AG Eric Holder: “I don’t know” if DOJ ever enforced Born Alive Act

When Attorney General Eric Holder appeared before the House Judiciary Committee last Wednesday to provide information on a variety of scandals plaguing the Obama administration, he was also questioned about whether he had ever enforced the federal Born Alive Infants Protection Act. Holder’s response was the same as it was 56 other times that day: […]

BREAKING: Congressional committees launch nationwide probe of shoddy abortion clinics and state regulators

breakingnews2I wrote the other day that aside from a U.S. Senate resolution introduced May 6 to “investigate and correct abusive, unsanitary, and illegal abortion practices” in the wake of the Kermit Gosnell scandal, other efforts were in the works to reign in dangerous abortion clinics and abortionists nationwide.

Two of those efforts were revealed today. Susan B. Anthony List writes:
