Forgiving abortion: Pope sends out “missionaries of mercy”

by Carder Pope Francis will send an army of globe-trotting priests — his “missionaries of mercy” — to absolve women who’ve had abortions, in the latest Vatican bid to catch up with modern times. The effort, which includes reaching out to doctors and nurses who’ve performed abortions, will commence in the Holy Year of Mercy, […]

Pro-life blog buzz 5-1-15

pro-lifeby Susie Allen, host of the blog, Pro-Life in TN, and Kelli

  • ProLifeBlogs links to a CNS News report about pro-abortion Hillary Clinton’s recent speech in which she claimed every life matters. Clinton was, of course, not speaking about the preborn. (After all, she “told the audience at the sixth annual Women in The World Summit last week that ‘religious beliefs’ must be changed for the sake of abortion.”) No, she was speaking about cases in which Black men have been killed by police officers. Clinton is a good example of the compartmentalization of abortion proponents. Perhaps if preborn babies could vote or donate to political campaigns, they could warrant some consideration from her.

Stanek weekend Q #2: Why did the Vatican censor the Pope’s pro-life words?

tough-francis-hit-out-at-his-inner-circleFr. Frank Pavone of Priests for Life has written a provocative blog post:

Something I wanted to bring to your attention is the address that Pope Francis gave on Christmas day at noon during his “Urbi et Orbi” (to the city and to the world) blessing. He mentioned the babies in the womb, and his exact words in that section of his address were as follows:

United Nations: Church’s position on abortion is “torture”

by Kelli According to the great and mighty UN, prohibiting abortion is a grave human rights abuse against women and the Vatican better do something about it. The one and only American on the U.N. Committee Against Torture, Felice Gaer [pictured], went even further by labeling the Church’s position on abortion was [sic] a form […]

A future discussion between Obama and Pope Francis

by Carder Topics like O-Care’s contraception mandate and infanticide will, I take it, be discreetly avoided…. Meanwhile, who’s listening to Obama’s sermons on sharing the wealth and remaining unmoved by them unless/until they know the Pope would like to see a bit more wealth-sharing too? My hunch is that people’s views of redistribution are similar to their views of […]

Evangelicals and Catholics unite against HHS mandate

Before Wheaton’s move, most plaintiffs suing over the mandate were Catholic colleges and organizations that follow the Vatican’s teaching against birth control. Most of the 58 plaintiffs in the 24 lawsuits are Catholic dioceses, colleges and charity groups. But Wheaton’s involvement shows that Catholics aren’t alone in opposing the mandate, since many evangelical Christians view […]

Vatican and Priests for Life collaborate on two upcoming events

I wrote on June 28 that the Vatican had cleared Father Frank Pavone as a priest in good standing in response to Bishop Patrick Zurek’s September 9, 2011, letter “suspend[ing]” him “from public ministry,” words with ominous implications.

Whatever Bishop Zurek meant by the term “suspend,” which some argue was just a poor word choice, was overruled by the Vatican. Father Pavone, while still under Bishop Zurek’s authority, has been authorized by the Vatican to continue his work at Priests for Life, which includes traveling and speaking around the country and world on behalf of innocent human life.

Since then Priests for Life has announced two collaborative endeavors with the Vatican, an obvious added show of approval on the part of Rome.
