Change and hope for the abortion industry
UPDATE, 2:00p: The Center for Reproductive Rights has sent President-elect Obama a 3-page wish list letter. Top priorities: defund abstinence education programs, allow minors over-the-counter access to the morning-after pill, appoint pro-abortion federal judges, push global access to abortion through the UN. [HT: CNSNews.com]
_______________
The Obama campaign announced over the weekend it has “compiled a list of about 200 Bush administration actions and executive orders that could be swiftly undone,” according to the Washington Post.
Whenever we think of President-elect Obama undoing pro-life policies, reflect back that they were done by President Bush. We shall soon have a better understanding as to just how pro-life he was.
Executive orders and policy changes will be just part of the story. Also track Obama’s deadly staff and department appointments in contrast to President Bush’s.
So here’s a first look at the leaked list. Note the changes are ALWAYS about money….
AIDS prevention in Africa
According to Bloomberg:
President-elect Barack Obama will reverse U.S. family planning and AIDS prevention strategies that have long linked global funding to anti-abortion and abstinence education, a public-health adviser said….
The emphasis on abstinence and fidelity, “has been shown to have demonstrable success in Africa,” said Valerie Huber, executive director of the National Abstinence Education Association…. “It would be more than unfortunate if that policy was changed.”…
“If the president-elect wants to be science-based in foreign sex-education policies, it would be wisest to continue this way because it’s shown to be effective,” she said.
Freedom of Choice Act
According to the Associated Press:
“We’ve been waiting a long time, and we’ve got a long list,” said Kim Gandy, president of the National Organization for Women….
Feminist leaders now want Obama and the new Congress to… pass the Freedom of Choice Act, which would overrule many state-level restrictions on access to abortion.
Not “many.” ALL.
Comprehensive sex ed, contraceptive funding, and abortion funding
Also according to the AP:
Now, groups such as NARAL… and… Planned Parenthood… want Obama and Congress to move aggressively on several initiatives that were thwarted during the Bush administration. Priorities include expanded access to birth control and family-planning services, and a shift from Bush-supported abstinence-only sex education to comprehensive programs that include teaching about contraception.
“Family-planning services,” i.e., taxpayer funded abortions.
Mexico City Policy
According to the Washington Post:
The new president is also expected to lift a so-called global gag rule barring international family planning groups that receive U.S. aid from counseling women about the availability of abortion, even in countries where abortion is legal, said Cecile Richards, the president of PP. President Bill Clinton rescinded the Reagan-era regulation, known as the Mexico City Policy, when he took office. Bush later reimposed it.
“We have been communicating with his transition staff” almost daily, Richards said. “We expect to see a real change.”
The Mexico City Policy also stops groups from “referr[ing] for abortion, lobby[ing] to make abortion legal or more available in their country, or perform[ing] abortions except in cases of a threat to the woman’s life, rape or incest,” according to Bloomberg.
So Obama will reinstitute taxpayer funding of international abortions and lobbying for abortion in foreign countries.
Human embryo experimentation
According to the Herald Sun:
… Obama is looking to immediately reverse some of… Bush’s signature policies once he takes office.
He will overturn a ban on embryonic stem cell research….
John Podesta, the head of his transition team, said once in office Mr Obama was considering reversing Mr Bush’s executive orders that ban embryonic stem cell research….
None of the news outlets quoted considered these policy changes devisive. They spun them as overturning divisive policies. Again note that every single one of Obama’s life-related policy change gives the anti-life industry millions if not billions of dollars.
Well deserved pay-offs.

We have Obama’s stance on pro deather policies are the top of his agenda. According to polls, they placed a larger emphasis on the economy in his vote. He has different priorities.
Who are the pro life democrats in congress?
Well if it’s money they want, they can have it.
I’ve never seen a corpse have any use for money.
Is Harry Reid a mormon? How did his church do in fighting the gay marriage? Will they at one point nail him on his pro death party antics?
elections have consequences.
Now America will see the real Obama….
I wonder what those black americans who voted for him w/o knowing his stance will think. Many of them may be shocked, as they were caught up in the “hope” and “change” mantras. Its change alright. Change that will DOOM this country. Forced paying for abortions is WRONG and will alienate him from those who didn’t vote for him, even though he claims to want to reach out to those who DIDN’T vote for him.
Well, I didn’t vote for him because I KNEW these things would happen if he DID get elected. Its as I feared.
He does NOT care.
Now America will see the real Obama….

All America cares about is that Obama is going to pay our mortgages, fill our gas tanks, put our kids through college, and give us lots of “free” stuff. America cares about its bottom line, and the people living in “poverty” who only have two tvs and three ipods, and who eat better on food stamps than those of us who work for a living.
And so much for “reducing” the number of abortions, Mr. Obama. (But we knew you didn’t really want that, anyway.)
The average citizen does not understand the power of the President in these areas. One other area that Bush actually started to reverse was prosecution of the obscenity laws virtually ignored by the Clinton administration. This led to a huge increase in porn (see pbs.org Frontline)in the 90’s. We might see an even further increase in porn in this country.
The Obama fans don’t care. They know and don’t care.
Hal,
I thought you were going to give it a rest. Or at least give us a rest.
we already have too much porn in this country, protected by “free speech”. I hate when I see “Gentlemen’s clubs” because I know a TRUE Gentleman would NEVER go to that sort of place, because a TRUE Gentleman respects a woman and doesn’t go to a place where men view a woman’s body as a sex object.
We all heard him in the debates and political ads decry the billions spent in Iraq as we face economic crisis at home (without acknowledging that the numbers used include salaries to our troops), but yet we will spend overseas on abortion? The first argument has a : “let them deal with their own problems” ring to it, just WATCH the second will be sold as a solution to AIDS! To POVERTY! To the SUFFERING caused by twisting what is a blessing, our progeny, into a curse.
And so it begins.
reminds me of another election where the people were deceived…and no, not Hitler.

“we already have too much porn in this country”-Posted by: LizFromNebraska
It is so pervasive now, I wonder what more can actually mean. Will they make it mandatory? Laugh now but…
Yeah, now more babies will be killed because of hope and change. Why can’t Obama just pick on somebody his own size and quit bullying the unborn? All this news is too depressing but ignorance is not bliss. I agree that most people were thinking about money and free stuff when they voted-they deserve what they voted for it will come at a great expense. God help us all!!!
Interesting observation on this Jill: when Obama reverts a lot of pro-life measures, we’ll see an undeniable adverse impact in the stats and financials.
Let’s see if being pro-life makes more financial sense when it comes to taxpayers.
I don’t easily recall that case being made anywhere, at least with wide-spread exposure.
For those of you not aware of what “Comp Sex Ed” means, let me share some definitions with you:
-“A family consists of two or more people who
care for each other in many ways.”
-“Vaginal intercourse–when a penis is placed inside a vagina–is the most common way for an egg and a sperm to join.”
-“Both boys and girls have body parts that feel good when touched.”
-“Touching and rubbing one’s own genitals to feel good is called masturbation.”
-“Masturbation should be done in a private place.”
-“Adults often kiss, hug and engage in other sexual behavior with one another to show caring and to feel good.”
SIECUS (Sexuality Information and Education Council of the United States) identifies the previous criteria as “age appropriate” for children ages 5 to 8. Has anyone else read “Brave New World” by Huxley?
The dark days are about to begin. Disaster.

They already have. It’s very hard to be positive after seeing this Washington Post article. Very hard.
One of my cousins wrote in the aftermath of the elections, that we will probably fund abortions with taxpayers’ dollars. I replied that it is nothing new! In our state (MN) last year 12.5 million of taxpayer dollars funded abortions. What will be new will be tax credits for couples/individuals donating their embryos and aborted fetuses (keeping in mind that Obama defines born-alive after abortion infants as “aborted fetuses”, the way his twisted mind allows him to believe he is still truthful when he says he has never voted to not provide medical care to INFANTS). Molech has a new name, and it is: science.

Starla @ 11:49 AM
My newspaper is counting down the days to inauguration. It must be the day that all the “free stuff” arrives in our mailboxes!! I can’t wait!! Maybe I can buy a big screen TV!
I’m hoping for a new renovated kitchen cause I can’t survive w/o a dishwasher for much longer. Its hard to get those little bits of food washed off with just a dish cloth.

hal,
Please do not try to defend Obama’s actions. Many of us are in a serious state of mourning – if you haven’t noticed. Thank you.
this article does put me in a bad mood. It makes me very sad — what if the free speech rights of peaceful prolifers are revoked? We merely want to offer an alternative to the desperation of abortion. We want to show these scared women HOPE for the future with a beautiful ultrasound or sonogram of their unborn baby.
Federal funding in many areas must be reduced if Obama want’s to cut wasteful spending.
We MUST fight for a REDUCTION in abortion funding by tax-payers. (I wonder how many people even realize that taxes are paying for abortions???)

And many of us have never been so proud of our country.
Hal, did you see the recent south park, where the ER nurse asks Kyle and Stan if they are Obama supporters or McCain supporters- to know if they partied too hard, or tried to kill themselves?
Terribly non-PC, but hilarious nonetheless.
Hal,
Seriously. I thought you were leaving. I wouldn’t mind so much if you understood how saddened so many of us are. You are only here to rub salt. Go away.
Proud! Proud of the fact that 50 million of your fellow American’s (including two of your own children)have been butchered for convenience?
Proud of a nation that elected a man who couldn’t bring himself to vote for a law to protect a baby who is born alive after an abortion?
Proud of the fact that a teen can get an abortion without any input from their parents who have the child’s best interests in mind.
Proud that the government gives substantial monies to a an organization (PP) that protects child rapists and abusers?
Proud of a nation whose researchers can’t wait to get their hands on thousands of frozen embryos so they can experiment on these tiny humans even though there has yet to be one single successful treatment using stem cells from these persons?
Proud of a medical establishment that offers to pay for assisted suicide rather than drugs which may help a person stay alive?
Proud of doctors who remove organs from patients not yet dead for transplanation?
Proud of doctors who dehydrate patients to death because they don’t meet their criteria for being alive?
Hal: you are twisted man with a twisted idea of pride.
Patrica for President 2016! Patricia for President 2016!
I can’t Liz. I’m Canadian! lol
But thanks for the vote!!
Hal isn’t the only proud one, Patricia. So is the majority of the electorate and the world, including an awful lot of Christians and Catholics.

well, I’ve cut back a lot. I understand some are unhappy with the election results. That’s always true. I’m not so much “rubbing salt” as trying to put things in perspective. Not everyone shares your goals. What some of you call a tragedy, others celebrate. I do point out now and then, that there’s nothing to worry about. Obama is not going to change things nearly as much as his supporters hope or his detractors fear.
Hal isn’t the only proud one, Patricia. So is the majority of the electorate and the world, including an awful lot of Christians and Catholics.

methinks you use the terms “Christians and Catholics” very loosely.
It is not christian to support the “right” to kill unborn children for any reason. In fact it is barbaric and even pagan to do so especially for mere expediency.
Ray, some of us do believe that there will be an accounting if not in this life, definitely in the next life. All outstanding accounts will be rendered at that time. And it may not be to many “Christian” and “Catholic”‘s likeing.
I look to my prolife friends to put things in perspective.
What some of you call a tragedy, others celebrate.
Really? Is this what you and your wife did after each abortion?
Honestly Hal. I honestly just don’t understand you, man.
methinks you use the terms “Christians and Catholics” very loosely.
If you plan to start questioning the authenticity of people’s religion because of the way the vote or the politicians they support, especially based on only one of a myriad of issues, then good luck and get ready for a major schism.
Ray, some of us do believe that there will be an accounting if not in this life, definitely in the next life
And some of us believe that some of us here are currently making payments on balances previously accrued. Christianity does not have a lock on morality, not by a long shot.
Hal,
I am proud that we elected a black man as president, I’m saddened that he isn’t pro-life. We could have done better. Happy?
I found that quote in the online version of the book (The Three Ways of the Interior Life by Fr. Garrigou-Lagrange). I think there is a lot of hope in it:
“‘Nothing has ever happened and nothing happens save by the plan of My [God’s] divine Providence. In all things that I permit, in all things that I give you, in tribulations and in consolations, temporal or spiritual, I do nothing save for your good, so that you may be sanctified in Me and that My Truth be fulfilled in you. ‘ It is the same truth which St. Paul expresses in his epistle to the Romans: ‘ To them that love God all things work together unto good. ‘”
There is also a footnote which I found inspiring:
“There is nothing easier than to be convinced in theory that Providence ordains all things without exception unto good. But it is rare to find that truth realized in practice when some unforeseen disaster enters like a cataclysm into our lives. There are few who are able to see in such an event one of God’s greatest graces, the grace of their second or third conversion. The venerable Boudon, a priest held in high repute by his own bishop and by several bishops in France, one day received, in consequence of a calumny, a letter from his bishop suspending him and forbidding him to say Mass or to hear confessions. He straightway threw himself on his knees before his crucifix, thanking our Lord for a grace of which he felt himself to be unworthy”
“I understand some are unhappy with the election results- Hal”
————————————————
You still don’t get it,Hal?
Our mourning is way beyond “Unhappy”…
We are already mourning the several millions of unborn babies that will be killed because of “CHANGE”…the rivers of blood flowing from the abortuaries…the billions of lives that will be destroyed and broken across the globe…
and all with a stroke of Obama’s pen.
May God have mercy on us all.
If you plan to start questioning the authenticity of people’s religion because of the way the vote or the politicians they support, especially based on only one of a myriad of issues, then good luck and get ready for a major schism.
THere exists, already a huge schism within many Christian churches Ray. Where have you been for the past 20 years? The Anglican church is folding in on itself over the issue of same-sex marriage. The Catholic church is also experiencing troubles with those who claim to be Catholic but who refuse to accept and follow Catholic teachings. I for one, would prefer that anyone who cannot accept the Catholic teaching on sexual morality either rethink the issue or leave. Catholic doctrine is not up for grabs. If this means a smaller church, so be it.
Ray, anyone calling themselves a follower of Christ who –either in blind ignorance or in complete disregard for the truth– elected a man capable of endorsing and applauding such atrocities, needs to repent while there is yet time.
Jesus tells us that in the end, many will cry, “Lord! Lord!” and he will say “I never knew you.” God forgive us as a nation. We must pray for our leaders’ hearts to be softened and for them to turn from evil. How long will we try His patience? Our country runs red with the blood of the innocent and we say “God Bless America” ? Why should He?
“Mourning” is an apt description, but in lieu of despondency, I now have an excitement and a sense of urgency like never before! Too many of us have been complacent for too long. The day draws nearer that we must give an account to our Creator. Will you stand before an Almighty God (whether you believe in Him or not, you WILL stand before Him) and tell Him you looked the other way?
Ray, anyone calling themselves a follower of Christ who –either in blind ignorance or in complete disregard for the truth– elected a man capable of endorsing and applauding such atrocities, needs to repent while there is yet time.
Tell that to all the Christians out there that support him, and see how far you get. If they really believed that, he would not have been elected.
I for one, would prefer that anyone who cannot accept the Catholic teaching on sexual morality either rethink the issue or leave.
There might not be as many people left as you seem to wish. What if you held a mass and nobody came?
Oops. My above post should have been in the “Judgment Days” thread.
I for one, would prefer that anyone who cannot accept the Catholic teaching on sexual morality either rethink the issue or leave.

Your statement implies that ALL Catholics think like you Ray. However, many, many Catholics do not support Obama because of his policies. So our churches will never be completely empty. Smaller yes. But in times of persecution, the Church has always been refined and purified.
Bobby @ 1:53 pm
Thanks! I am constantly having to remind myself that God is in charge and will bring some good out of this. It means having to humble myself! Any saint who experienced persecution, even by their own clergy or religious brothers or sisters, always accepted it in humility and with gratitude.
Eileen#2 I think Bobby and other people on the BB have the right idea: to pray for Obama, especially that his heart may be softened. It appears right now that he has so many people to pay back, especially the rabid feminist organizations and Planned Parenthood. He may never be able to fully extricate himself from these people. In fact, it may even be life endangering to do so.
But prayer may mitigate some of the consequences.
Saint Paul before his conversion, persecuted christians, including the first martyr, Saint Stephen. With God, ALL Things are possible.
Before Obama can destroy a single child he will have to prove to the Supreme Court that he is not a complete political fraud, in other words that he is a natural born citizen. I do not believe he can do this, so I think his election will be voided and the electoral college will vote for Hillary Clinton as President.
So, it is quite possible that the anti-life Clinton, not the anti-life Obama, will promote these anti-human policies against unborn children.
We in the unborn human rights movement must, over the next two years, organize as never before so we can have an enormous victory over these unspeakable Democratic politicians who believe in destroying children and ravaging the economy.
Given the severe damage I think they will inflict on our society and the havoc they will wreak on the economy, I believe our candidates will know great fortune in the 2010 midterm elections.
In the meantime, we need to try to help Senator Saxby Chambliss in his reelection runoff in Georgia. We cannot afford to lose another Senate seat to the Democratic Party and their anti-life allies.
Everybody cheer up and stop feeling so depressed. We are right and we will win in the long run as long as we do not give up hope.
Liz’ suggestion of Patricia for President? I second it! Patricia, didn’t you hear? You don’t have to have proof of eligible citizenship to be elected president any longer! I’m sure someone could get a Certificate of Live Birth or some such nonsense. Oh, wait, McCain DID present HIS birth certificate for Congressional approval, so maybe it’s waived on a party basis.
allow minors to get the dangerous Plan B? That’s stupid! That’s very stupid. Plan B has a higher dosage of artificially made hormones estrogen and progesterone. And i thought Plan B was supposed to only be used for “Rape Victims”.
They hate abstinence because they want kids addicted to sex as teens so as adults they’ll have abortions and end up in bad relationships.
Abstinence, when taught in the right way, sends a positive message that it IS possible to wait for that SPECIAL SOMEONE.

read ALL of it, because if you just read a little.. it sounds like you’re right. If you read the entire thing, you will see that you are, in fact, totally and completely wrong.
He’s a natural born US citizen. Please, if you’re going to bad talk him, please let it be about something like his policies… not a ridiculous lie.

I’m sure I could get a lawyer somewhere to fake my birth certificate….hehe
Arnold Swartzenager was born in Austria, yet he’s the Governor of California. I think we can work out a way for Patricia to be President of the USA. ;)
You’d have my vote, Patricia! Bobby could be your vp pick!!
no Bobby should be prez. He’d be awesome. But I have a feeling he’s toooo nice….
actually there’s a Bobby I want to run for Prez in 2012 — The governor of Louisiana, Bobby Jindal.
Someone asked the question here, is Harry Reid a Mormon?
I am certain he is.
And I would like to know what, if anything, the Mormon church might do with Reid supporting a very radical abortion agenda. I know the Mormons gave a lot of money to prop 8 and are now being blamed or credited with its passing, depending what side you are on.
But back to Obama. I knew it would not take long for his true colors to show, but even I am amazed it hasn’t even been a week and already we can count on abortion laws signed by President Bush to be overturned in a heartbeat. He will probably do it immediately after the inaguration. Likely the same day. The world will be in such a state of euphoria that he can do as he pleases. And I have no doubt he will, aided by his allies Pelosi and Reid.
God help us.

No federal money could be used.Expect that to “change” under Obama. And that will make a huge difference to a lot of consciencious pro-lifers like myself.
Jeremiah 8:19-21
19Behold, listen! The cry of the daughter of my people from a distant land: “Is the LORD not in Zion? Is her King not within her?” “Why have they provoked Me with their graven images, with foreign idols?” 20″Harvest is past, summer is ended, And we are not saved.” 21For the brokenness of the daughter of my people I am broken; I mourn, dismay has taken hold of me.
