CNN profile: Late-term abortionist LeRoy Carhart vs. “his No. 1 foe”
On October 27, CNN profiled Operation Rescue’s Troy Newman and NE late-term abortionist LeRoy Carhart in a lengthy article, along with “Perspectives on abortion” video vignettes.
Newman’s analysis: “Not a perfect article. But it better than what I thought CNN would do.”

When you cross The Line of Death onto clinic property, the protesters stare at you. They get on walkie talkies and relay information: Your car. What you look like. Any identifying detail.
“Take a look around you, sir,” one woman shouts. “The place is a dump.”
The parking lot at Dr. LeRoy Carhart’s clinic in Bellevue, NE is crumbled. A giant sign reads “Abortion & Contraception Clinic of Nebraska.” Paint peels off the sides of the building, once a motorcycle shop, a car dealership showroom and an electronics store….
Carhart was performing an abortion in Procedure Room No. 1 when his cell phone buzzed with the news [that George Tiller had been murdered]. He didn’t have time to grieve for his best friend. He still had 12 abortions to do.
“I finished them all,” he says proudly….
Carhart says in his soft-spoken voice… “I have abortion on the front of this building, because I think abortion isn’t a four-letter word. It’s a part of life.”
Newman is appalled. In no way is “killing a baby” a way of life, he says…. [T]o him, Carhart personifies… a morally repugnant human being. He refuses to call Carhart a doctor.
“Doctors heal people. Abortionists do just the opposite.”…
[Carhart] charges anywhere from $430 to $10,000 for an abortion. The price depends on how far along the pregnancy is.
Of the 60k abortions he says he’s performed, he says about 400 were beyond 24 weeks, so-called late-term abortions. In each case, he says, there was a medical reason for the procedure.
“I am not pro-abortion,” he says. “That’s the very one clear thing I want you to understand. Abortion is not the right answer for every pregnancy.”
The latest abortion he’s ever performed was at 36 weeks, he says, because the fetus had not developed a brain. His youngest patient was 10, a victim of incest….
[JLS note: 36 weeks? That’s just so weird. A baby is considered full-term at 36 or 37 weeks, depending on the dr. The mother could simply have delivered. And did Carhart report the rape to authorities? Was he responsible and saved some of the baby’s tissue for DNA matching?]
Carhart doesn’t mask his language. He’s open and honest about what he does, sometimes uncomfortably so.
“We do kill fetuses,” he says. “It dies because we give an injection into the fetus that causes the heart to just slowdown.”…
Newman had no idea then that he would become one of the nation’s most outspoken activists against abortion – despised by women’s groups and supporters of abortion rights.
“I always wonder: What part of wanting to save a baby’s life is so bad that it makes people hate me?“

I betcha that Carhart didn’t report that incest to the authorities. Abortionists think they’re above the law.

Carla, I was thinking the same thing. How in the world does anyone come up with $10,000 for an abortion. And for $10,000 couldn’t you find a nicer place for the money? That place looks like the roof is going to cave in any moment!
I think I misread the article: It was a different patient that was the 36 weeks. The 10 year old was the incest victim (and probably aborted at 6-8 weeks is my guess). Hmm, wonder if they arrested the FATHER? or stepfather? or whoever it was? Or at least informed the police?
$10,000 is for the late term abortions is my guess.
Medical reason? HA! Most of the babies are probably healthy when they are killed.

yet to hear the proaborts tell it the average abortion is only $400 versus the cost of a pregnancy. You can leave a baby on the steps of any fire station or church for free. Many adoptive parents will pay for a womans medical care during pregnancy, too. None of that ever gets mentioned, does it? $10000 dollars will buy a whole lot of diapers. The proaborts want us out of abortion but have no problem asking us to pay for abortion. Keep the change, Obama. I’ll pass, thanks.

This a very sick, pathetic man. I cannot imagine allowing him touching anyone especially a 10 year old child and I cannot imagine taking anyone to this dilapidated dump to have their nails trimmed let alone having some woman’s cervix dialated, a curette inserted, her baby dismembered, and vacuum suction applied, which needs to be a STERILE procedure utilizing STERLILE technique with sterilized instruments to avoid complications. like severe infection, pelvic inflammatory disease, sepsis, blood clots, pulmonary embolism, retained fetal parts, severe blood loss and lacerated cervix, bladder, bowel or blood vessels. I want to see all the pro-aborts line up to take their daughters to Carhart’s clinic. Icky, nasty place shows just how much he cares about women.
