Spotlighting important information gleaned from other pro-life blogs…

  • Back in June, Jivin J reported that the CA Institute for Regenerative Medicines was increasing its embryonic stem cell research budget by 25%. But in an abrupt U-turn, Wesley J. Smith reports that CIRM has now (inevitably) turned its focus to adult stem cell research. According to the article he notes from The New York Times

  • In a tacit acknowledgment that the promise of human embryonic stem cells is still far in the future, CA’s stem cell research program on Wednesday awarded grants intended to develop therapies using mainly other, less controversial cells….
[O]nly 4 of the 14 projects involve embryonic stem cells. The others will use so-called adult stem cells or conventional drugs intended to kill cancer stem cells, which are thought to give rise to tumors.

  • Mary Harned at the Americans United for Life blog shines some light on what exactly is going on with abortion in the 2,000-page health care bill. According to AUL’s legal analysis:
  • The new House health care bill, H.R. 3962 includes the same problematic provisions found in the Capps Amendment added to H.R. 3200 (the former House health care reform bill). The new bill allows private health insurance plans that cover elective abortion to receive government subsidies (Section 222(e)(2)). (The bill also includes the Capps provision that purports to segregate the “federal dollars” from “private dollars” that are used to pay for abortions (Sections 303(e)(2); 341(c)(3)) – but nothing alters the fact that this provision allows government dollars to go to private plans that cover abortion)….

    Harry Reid, healthcare, abortion.jpg

  • An AP article on Monday stated that Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, “opposes abortion rights.” Suzy B proves this couldn’t be further from the truth, reporting Reid’s record of anti-life votes. (If Randall Terry read this article, it sure didn’t convince him that Reid is a conservative pro-lifer.)
  • Right to Life New Zealand reports the Family Planning Association is acting true to its allegiance to International Planned Parenthood Federation. The FPA is seeking to replicate the US’s Planned Parenthood model by applying to the government for a license to commit abortions against unborn children up to 9 weeks with the RU-486 drug.
  • John Jacubczyk picks up on a Daily Mail article reporting on disturbing cutting-edge research being done in the fields of genetics and stem cells:
  • Human eggs and sperm have been grown in the laboratory in research which could change the face of parenthood. …This includes the possibility of children being born through entirely artificial means, and men and women being sidelined from the process of making babies.
…Scientists at Stanford University in CA found the right cocktail of chemicals and vitamins to coax the cells into becoming eggs and sperm.
