Lady Gaga on Larry King: “Warm womb” dwellers siphon maternal creativity?
Larry King interviewed pop singing sensation Lady Gaga on June 1, and she appeared conflicted over the presence of children in wombs. Near the beginning of the interview came this exchange…
King: At what age growing up, Gaga, did you know that you wanted to be a performer?
Gaga: In the womb, Larry, in my mother’s warm womb.
King: [Laughing] At your birth.
Gaga: Yes, at my birth. I guess that you could say it’s been my destiny to be a performer….
Getting technical, because that’s what we pro-lifers do, Gaga did not originally say her personality, talents, and drive magically appeared “at birth,” as King translated. She said they were present prenatally.

Later, after discussing Gaga’s bisexuality, came this:
King: You wanna have children?
Gaga: Yes, someday. Oh [indecipherable] my womb is not yet beckoning for a child, but I’m very far away from that day. I’m also terrified it will ruin my creativity.
King: Forget it, it won’t, it will not….

Put Gaga’s 2 thoughts together, and one can only surmise she thinks preborn children siphon their mothers’ creative energy.
I applaud Gaga for acknowledging the humanity of preborn life. However, it is an insult to motherhood to indicate pregnancy suctions brain cells. Ironically, it is abortionists, actually, who are known for suctioning brain cells. Truth be told, Gaga is more likely afraid pregnancy would divert her attention from herself to her baby.
On the other hand, I don’t know if Gaga is pro-abortion, but earlier this year she announced she was collaborating on a line of condoms, with proceeds going to the United States’ largest abortion provider, Planned Parenthood.

I wonder how all of this fits with her comments on the value of abstinence earlier in the year?
She’s a true performer; and I wonder where the costume ends and the truth begins.
She reminds me of Madonna …. confused, rebellious, and ever-morphing. (Forgive me if they made the comparison in the videos which I couldn’t bear to watch.) ICK.
Yeah, I can officially say that Gaga neither endorses abstinence with her music (“Let’s have some fun, this beat is sick./ I wanna take a ride on your disco stick!” – Lady Gaga, “Love Games“), nor life affirming with her videos (for example, “Paparazzi“). She does try to be body-positive and non-judgemental about people who might not fit into the societal norms (which I like), but she’s not exactly what I would call “a great role model.” And that’s before we get to the part where she’s a walking fashion disaster zone.
Bobby, that was exactly my thought.
Lady Gaga seems to me like an incredibly talented and creative woman with a very confused and lost heart. I hope that she finds peace. She’s so interesting that I really wish she would.
Kind of funny that Planned Parenthood is using the fig-leaf as part of their packaging – once more indicating that the truth is rather obvious.
Somehow I don’t think the designers of the condom packages knew the biblical meaning of the fig-leaf covering.
Lady Gaga is a creation. Her name is Stephanie. She was a young Italian American girl before she offered herself up as a blank canvas to the record industry. Since my husband worked in that industry he offers a lot of insight on it to me. She is whatever gives her fame and money. If pro-life is the in thing, she’ll be that. If pro-abortion is where its at, she’ll be that. I don’t know that she has one viewpoint for herself. She can’t. She has to be play-doh in the paws of her handlers.
Sydney, that’s really interesting. She’s a really fascinating collaboration, then, but still a floundering young woman.
It seems to me that you’re just throwing things out of proportion here. From her quotes, it simply sounds like Lady Gaga believes that caring for a child would limit her ability to focus on her career. Which makes perfect sense because then there would be two important things in her life instead of one.
I have no idea where this ‘fetus sucking brain cells and creativity’ thought came from.

My kids are studying marketing on their own (how their particular generation is hooked into certain sales.) There’s something like 7 unique indicators of how well a product will do, and it’s easy to see how some brands play upon a few of these indicators. Among themselves (teens and a young adult) they determined Lady Gaga was a “product” and further, was a deliberate attempt to max out 5 of the 7 characteristics. They just mentioned this the other night – so it’s funny seeing the same discussion show up here on Jill’s.
As a product, she’s probably heading down the road to insanity. Her handlers will walk away counting cash, while she’s destroyed. The sad part is – the public is none the wiser.
Kushie, nice spin, but again, here’s what Gaga said: “I’m also terrified it will ruin my creativity.”
With how odd Lady Gaga gets, it’s nice to hear her support life in the womb. I would like to say that her collaboration on the Planned Parenthood condoms is really just a promotion/support of her long-time clothing designer, Jeremy Scott. Proper Attire is putting them out with Scott designs.

Does he have any actual connection to her? I’m not big on dismissing people as industry puppets unless there’s solid evidence in that direction.
The whole “I’m afraid getting pregnant will ruin my creativity” thing sounds sort of spaced-out and New Age-y. Hopefully she’ll get over it.
When my mom was pregnant with me, she and my dad would go to orchestra concerts and I’d kick around. Can’t sing, though.

It’s not a big secret. Gaga tried to make a career for herself as a singer before she got her big break by being absolutely as weird as possible. All the crazy outfits, the oddball dance moves, and the whacked-out music videos are produced entirely to feed an image created with the exclusive goal of getting her to the top of the heap in the music world.
And it’s worked perfectly. If she starts getting comfortable with her dance routines (instead of looking just a hair awkward the way she does now), she has the potential to be the next “King of Pop.” So, yeah. She’ll do whatever it is that she has to do to stay on top. She’s gone out in public looking like this, this, and this–on purpose. Saying she’s pro-life/choice/aliens/anchovies/whatever is not going to phase her much at this point, I think.
Marauder, no he has never met her personally but if you were in the music industry at all you would realize that 99% of artists are fabricated. My husband was in a band that was being scouted by labels including the very president of Columbia (records). Although we never struck it rich my husband is still involved with many aspects of the music industry. Trust me, Lady Gaga is contrived.
You know who Lady Gaga reminds me of? Marilyn Manson.
Wierd comparison? Perhaps. However, I’ll tell you why she reminds me of Manson. Because Marilyn Manson was willing to act, look, sing, and talk like a walking disaster area/freak in order to obtain money and notoriety/fame. I used to be a big fan of his when I was a teenager, but as an adult I look at him a bit differently. I think underneath it all he is a smart guy (he has a degree in Journalism) and has a lot of valid insight but he covers it up so well with the freakishness (with a Gothic twist in his case)that most people really wouldn’t realize it. Most regular folks would see him (and Lady Gaga) as “just another Hollywood flake”.
Sometimes I wonder who these people really are inside.

I think it’s absolutely ridiculous some of the comments above. It is not a simple marketing tactic, and if you do think that way, then you’d automatically think anybody famous is lying to you all the time. The president, our senators, everyone. There are people like politicians who use whats popular and run with it to market their campaign, and then there are people like Lady Gaga, who actually stand up for who they are and defend themselves and their people. She is bisexual, and if you don’t realize that, you’re not stupid you’re just plain ignorant. She is defending who she is, not just what is popular. And if you haven’t noticed, being gay in this society isn’t popular. It isn’t. And luckily, we have remarkable people like herself trying to change our country’s hazed mentality of homosexual love and relationships. And if you haven’t noticed, gay people can not reproduce. It’s impossible. So I find it ironic that the pro life website is against such an influential and iconic gay rights activist, who has nothing to do with what this little site is about. Also, it’s pathetic to relate the Lady to any other famous person in history, because unlike the majority of them, she is humble. She never admits to wanting fame, just love for her fans. All this woman has is love, and all she defends is love. Love. Society has for too long limited love to only a man and a woman, but times are changing. Get over the fact you can’t change what she has already started, and what she will go to hell and back to finish.
