Stigma against abortion industry on rise
Yesterday I told a friend I view one of my online roles as that of a pro-life Tokyo Rose.
For those who don’t know, “Tokyo Rose” was the name given to a small group of female Japanese radio personalities who attempted to demoralize American GIs during World War II by broadcasting Japanese propaganda.
Lowering the other side’s morale is an important component of winning any war, and so it is in our war against abortion.
Online pro-life activists play an important part. Just as we read pro-aborts’ posts, tweets, and comments, they read ours. Pro-life activists in other areas, such as those who protest abortion clinics and abortionists’ homes, also help demoralize them.
I read three encouraging pieces yesterday that reminded me this strategy is important and is working. As much as abortion proponents like to bully and portray bravado, don’t be fooled.
Abortion staffer ashamed of job
Example one comes from The Abortioneers blog, written by about a girl, an abortion worker, on January 5:
Sometimes it’s easier to discuss abortion and other times, it just isn’t easy at all. Probably some of it depends on how much is going on at work (if it’s stressful or we’re having a lot of protesters, I tend not to want to discuss work outside work as much. Especially with people who just won’t get it anyway).
It can feel isolating to have the people who are closest to you not understand your work, your commitment to it, and your passion for it. Only recently have I been able to have conversations with my dad about abortion after years of bitter silence. Sometimes, it’s still frustrating to even talk to my husband; for example, if I have a sh** day, he is quick to tell me I should just leave the clinic. He reminds me that I already have to put up with protesters and the stigma that comes along with being an abortioneer. He asks why I should stick around if my boss is being… err… unappreciative….
It’s stigma that really makes it so difficult to talk about our work. I haven’t even discussed it with my son’s best friend’s mom…. We do mommy things together all the time; we take our sons to soccer practice, to basketball practice. Over the summer, our kids did gymnastics and baseball. We see each other almost every day. Still, I am vague about my work and have never used the word “abortion.” She probably knows. I’ve mentioned a**hole protesters before so hopefully she’s put it all together, but we’ve never talked about it: abortion. Not once. I have no idea how she feels about it, but obviously, I’m worried or else I’d speak more freely.
(As an aside, there’s also a role for “best friend’s mom” to play, if she is pro-life… of making herself available to talk, being nonjudgmental, carefully helping her friend eventually see the wrong of her line of work, helping her get out of the industry.)
Donations way down
Example two comes from Planned Parenthood’s newly released 2009-2010 annual report, which indicates private donations are significantly down – by 28% from its 2008-2009 annual report. This means societal stigma against Planned Parenthood is growing.
During the same time period, government funding to Planned Parenthood rose by over $100 million, to $487.4 million from $363.2 million.
This only means Planned Parenthood is becoming more reliant on taxpayer subsidies, so when it eventually loses the benefit of its political friends, it will be in big trouble.
Planned Parenthood kicked out of school
Example three comes from a January 5 Saratogian.com story, indicating a New York school system has severed a 20-year relationship with the local Planned Parenthood to teach sex ed to middle and high school students.
Shenendehowa School District spokesperson Kelly DeFeciani said Planned Parenthood’s presence had become a “distraction,” that although “a few parents” perennially complained about Planned Parenthood, this year “a larger than usual group objected.”
This means awareness about Planned Parenthood is spreading.
So be encouraged, my fellow Tokyo Roses. We are winning the war to stigmatize and demoralize the other side. Keep it up.

yes, lets hope that more schools wake up and kick Banned Parenthood out of schools!
You want to teach sex ed to students? Start with BIOLOGY and the changes their bodies will go through during puberty. Teach fetal development! Concerned about STDs? Teach the truth…condoms won’t protect you 100%! And neithern will the pill! birth control won’t heal a broken heart when a guy dumps you. Self Esteem is important as is battling peer pressure. ‘
Take away PP’s money and eventually they will fade away as more wake up and discover their REAL agenda.
Jill, I really believe we are winning. Thanks for all you do.
I think it’s interesting that the woman who works in the clinic expresses such passion and commitment for what she does, but yet the people around her don’t know the first thing about her job. All my friends know what I believe and do–it’s who I am! How awful it must be to have to live in such shame and hiddenness.
Perhaps her shame is telling her something.
Wishful thinking, Stanek. If anything, your bizarre fixation with dis-empowering women only strengthens us. Three articles don’t make a trend. I could quote you three articles that show that we’re determined to not let you zealots take away our rights. (My link to Sunsara Taylor’s RH Reality article was censored, recently) We’re here, some of us are “queer,” and we’re not going away.
And BTW, contributions to non-profits are going down across the board. It’s the economy.
And while legislative actions have been taken to curtail abortion and defund Planned Parenthood, many of them are currently under injunction. Planned Parenthood was not defunded by Congress. There are certain areas of the country where the pro-choice lobby is strong. So don’t count your fetuses before they’re born.
But I love the use of “stigma” because that’s your mission. To guilt trip and stigmatize those women are dare to assert their right to reproductive freedom. Misogyny never prevails.
“Take away PP’s money and eventually they will fade away as more wake up and discover their REAL agenda.”
And where will low income women go for their routine gynecological care? Can community health centers absorb, physically and financially, an influx of former Planned Parenthood clients?
But 200 strong, including a local rabbi, at the Stand for Planned Parenthood rally in Providence. As I said, we’re not going away. (The anti-rally got about 50 folks). In the enlightened states, we care about women. You don’t.
Oh, wow. I’ve known for a long time that the Abortioneers were disgusting people, but check out this post (NWS, and bring your Brain Bleach™).
Honestly, if this is the kind of nonsense these people find funny, no wonder they’re being stigmatized. (And I have screenshots in case it goes down.)
CC, if the government would give that money they give to PP to those “low income clinics”, then they’d have NO problem in absorbing the cost of an increased patient load. PP has admitted that abortion is their number one business revenue, so if they truly ARE all about women’s real health (you know, the real medical stuff that real gyn docs do for women), then they’d not have a problem. But they do have a problem because they themselves know that abortion is their number one business and that’s primarily what they push if a woman walks in for a pregnancy test and it is positive.
I laugh at the term “enlightened states”. The city I live in is bigger than your entire state and I can assure you that us pro-lifers are having more children than the pro-aborts,and teaching them the truth about abortion, so remind me again which side will win this ugly war?
Oh, the elightened state approach! The flinging around of the proaborts’ favorite word, misogyny!
Again, CC and all you deathmongers: under a pro-life directive, more women live. Under a pro-death agenda, at least 1500 girls will die today in America.
Use your language correctly. You say “reproductive freedom.” That’s your secret handshake for the truth you can’t ever admit: bloody baby parts in buckets.
CC, why are you so pro-abortion??? Seriously, what is the difference between giving birth and having an abortion, except that in giving birth the child lives. Why don’t we just tell the Mom’s who “wanted” the abortion that her child died during birth and then put the child in an adoption agency!! What difference would it make to these women who wanted tan abortion? Why do they care if the baby lives? What is the baby’s life to them? Why do they and you feel the need to kill?
CC, Uh what rights are we trying to take away? This post has nothing to do with your “rights.”
Also, no, donations are not going down across the board. For one thing, the CPC where I work, our donations have risen since the economy went down.
Tyler, someone (like the devil) whisphered into CC’s ear: If you have the legal right to kill your baby before it’s born, you will be liberated and you can finally use sex as a weapon against men. It’s gonna be great!
What she missed, and what we will never stop proclaiming, is that all abortion procurers become is a mom with a dead baby and a broken heart and a mutilated body.
Hmmm. I get what Jill is saying, but the goal of my pro-life work is not to demoralize and stigmatize those in the abortion industry. My goal is to convert hearts and minds and save lives. We have Truth on our side and each year more and more people are enlightened by the Truth. If abortioneers find that fact demoralizing, I hope it’s the first step in their conversion.
Praise God for the changes that have happened over the last few years – looking forward to 2012 – an election year – when all the skeletons are coming out of the closet. Support for abortion is one of the dirtiest secrets politicians can hold on to. Of course those who do it for a living would be ashamed of it!
I am so proud to be pro-life and I know that God is happy with me. I do not have to feel shame or fear or disgust for myself. I do not have to hide or watch if I am going to step on anyone’s toes.
The truth shall set you free – and there is nothing but truth, scientific and statistical facts, history, and the Almighty God behind the pro-life movement!
I find it interesting that we can talk about “demoralizing” abortionists when the act of abortion shows a lack of morality in the first place.
Lrning,
Your mere presence as a sidewalk counselor, at 40 Days for Life, a prayer vigil outside an abortion mill or a March for Life demoralizes them. You making a stand pricks their conscience.
They usually respond with their middle fingers. To me anyway.
So while you are changing hearts and minds and helping others choose life they are watching and hating what you do.
The act of abortion demoralizes women.
Radical feminism: telling girls they can do/be anything while also claiming perpetual victimhood! How empowering. How were we ever women without our right to kill? Wholesale slaughter of the very young should never be stigmatized! They’re stripping away our rights to objectify ourselves and let irresponsible men off the hook! But we’re really just victims of da man! Is it any wonder girls are starting to reject this mentality? Totalitarian groupthink-crush all detractors-no empowerment there, just a hive mind that demands you read from the script. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve been put down by prolifers for exactly the approach outlined in this post. Ya know what? We’ve had 40 years of meeting them halfway and gotten nowhere. It’s time to marginalize the morons and call them out on their stupidity. Political correctness is killing this country-literally. A real friend will tell you when your face is dirty. A false one will look the other way and say nothing. A few feminist zealots getting ther widdle feewings hurt is a SMALL price to pay to recriminalize what never should have been legal in the first place. Rant over.
“pro-lifers are having more children than the pro-aborts,and teaching them the truth about abortion, so remind me again which side will win this ugly war.”
Ah, the demographics anti-choice meme rears its head. We’re gonna outbreed ya. Thing is, many of us who are pro-choice came from large Catholic, ethnic families so thinking that your breeding stock will be pro-life is a specious argument.
“Why don’t we just tell the Mom’s who “wanted” the abortion that her child died during birth and then put the child in an adoption agency.”
Serious violation of medical ethics. And really nice for the “baby” who will, at some point in life, find out about their forced “birth.” Besides, most abortions take place during the non-viable first trimester.
“For one thing, the CPC where I work, our donations have risen since the economy went down.”
And “Crosroads,” an organization that helps the homeless, is way down, as is Big Brothers and Big Sisters.
“is that all abortion procurers become is a mom with a dead baby and a broken heart and a mutilated body.”
What part of not all women regret their abortions don’t you comprehend?
“and there is nothing but truth, scientific and statistical facts, history, and the Almighty God behind the pro-life movement!”
So why is the scientific and medical community not clamoring for the banning of abortion. But your reference to “Almighty God” shows, once again, that with few exceptions your movement is a quasi-religious cult.
. It’s time to marginalize the morons and call them out on their stupidity
Ok so rant not quite over. One more thing. Christ died to give us His Name and His authority to stomp demons and trample scorpions, the Name at which demons tremble-if we are not getting up every day and walking in that authority the fault is ours when evil flourishes, not His. We have it in our power to end abortion. Put your armor on, take up the sword that He shed His blood to give you and use it-if ever there was a time in history not to be silent, THIS IS IT. If we could see into the spiritual realm, we would see that we are quite literally encamped before the gates of hell as the soldiers we are-no army is sent into battle with instructions to make nicey with the enemy. Game on. Ok, really done now, LOL.
Jill Stanek, self-admitted propagandist.
At least you’re honest.
You’re so right CC, we should be following the pecaeful example of athiests like Stalin, Lenin, Pol Pot, Ceaucescu, Milosevic…and the list goes on. Everyone knows how life affirming athiesm is, huh? Nothing crashed into nothing and created everything! Athiests more than any ought to be protecting life, seeing as this is our one and only shot at it. Intelligent? Not hardly. But please keep up the bigoted attacks on Christianity as you preach out the other side of your mouths about tolerance. Moron marginalized. Off to work at the CPO where I will tell women monstrous lies like where to get lowcost prenatal care and free food. I’m so evil, huh…
A pro-life agenda is one where no one dies. All are shown mercy and justice.
Letting a baby live is the right thing, CC. Why is it so hard for you to do the right thing?
MPQ, I love you. You remind me of a religious me. *hearts*
X, I agree! MPQ’s blog is AWESOME. The font is sometimes hard to read, but the quotes are roll-on-the-floor hilarious in some cases.
CC, it’s never too late to cross over. We has cookies!
Question: Do you think it’s possible for women who DON’T actually regret their own abortions to become pro-life?
Is it possible to say, “Well, I don’t experience any ill effects but I’m going to help end the practice anyway”??
PS: our local fundraiser for Birthright made more than 3 TIMES the money we made last year! Oo-ra!!!
“no army is sent into battle with instructions to make nicey with the enemy.”
Nice war analogy. Firebomb any clinics lately? I suppose you’d agree, then with Brazil’s new mandate that women register their pregnancies with the government? What’s a little more gov’t intrusion when fetuses lives are at stake?!
“Off to work at the CPO where I will tell women monstrous lies like where to get lowcost prenatal care and free food. I’m so evil, huh…”
Yep, and all that can be done without the goal of treating women like children who can’t make decisions for themselves. I know; I work at a community health center. CPCs in this town are a joke.
Bombing clinics, or anything else, is criminal and I don’t condone that at all. Most of the pro-life people I know also abhor any kind of violence.
But you know that already. No problem, I don’t mind repeating myself.
Megan, don’t be such a dunce. You know full well he was talking about spiritual war. It was clearly said in the post. If you read the BIBLE you would see St. Paul talks about how we are involved in a spiritual war. “For we wrestle not against flesh and blood but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.” Ephesians 6:12
But keep trying to play the victim against us violent pro-lifers. Pffft. Pick up God’s Word and learn about your enemy Megan.
You advovate the slaughter of inn0cent human beings, Megan, but the use of a war ANALOGY rubs you the wrong way?
Nothing treats a woman more like a child than selling them the lie that the death of their own child will set them free.
Durn, editing feature doesn’t work for me.
Further: Some criminals are pro-life. Some criminals are pro-choice. The fight against abortion is not invalidated because of this. To infer that it is, is faulty logic. I have never heard anyone personally tell me they supported violence to further the pro-life cause. However, its possible that someone I’ve met over the years harbors a secret criminal intent. Some of the people any of us have met may do the same.
Abortion is wrong, it is murder. That doesn’t change because some kook bombs a building. Any kooks who do that should be prosecuted according to the law.
And Megan, St. Paul talks about putting on our armor. Our helmet of salvation, shield of faith, the sword is God’s Word… so on and so forth. Are you seriously that uneducated? I have taken classes and read writings of other faiths but you seriously don’t know squat about the Bible?
I THOUGHT Joan’s spouting off about PP donations going up was wrong. She lied! I am SHOCKED! Shocked I say…
CC: If the government gives 487 million to non-aborting health care centers, they will certainly be able absorb the influx of poor women. Umm, duh.
Such a straw man.
breeding stock
Ha, I love it when you show that you, CC, are not simply “pro-choice,” you’re “anti-child.”
Thanks. :)
Hmm, so some women don’t regret their abortions? That’s a new one, eh CC? Some murderers don’t regret their actions either (google Ted Bundy) however a life was lost nonetheless.
Also didn’t know that “out-breeding” was a meme of pro-lifers. To anyone with the capability to use logic, it’s common sense that those that support and respect life will promote life, to include having more children and raising them with the truth; those that support death will see a child as a burden and not think twice to squelch it out. How that escapes a self professed “enlightened” individual such as yourself is humorous. Sure, some will be enticed over to the dark side (as you’ve proven with your own life history), but death can’t perpetuate death, no matter how hard it tries.
“Off to work at the CPO where I will tell women monstrous lies like where to get lowcost prenatal care and free food. I’m so evil, huh.”
And a little lesson about “god?”
Megan,
Way to take an analogy about a war of ideas and infer that we are advocating actual, criminal violence. Because people aren’t responsible enough to differentiate between an analogy and an actual reason to act… (sarcasm)
And CC,
Thanks for totally ignoring my whole post and honing in on the one thing that wasn’t totally an argument against you. I’m just pointing out that not *all* nonprofits are down on donations. Some are, some aren’t.
“to include having more children and raising them with the truth.”
As seen by the statistic that one out of every 10 Americans is an ex Catholic, some of these children reject “the truth.”
Ohhh noez! Not a lesson about how God LOVES the women who come into CPCs! Or about how He loves their children, too! Or maybe even a hug and a word of encouragement.
Ugh, the horror!
LOL, you people crack me up.
CC, what a sad soul you are. Really. Do you ever smile?
Sydney, I bet she smiles aLOT. Like 3-4,000 times a day.
So what is pro-life Tokyo Rose’s take on the new Rasmussen poll showing that 49% of voters identify as pro-choice to only 43% who identify as pro-life? Pretty remarkable numbers when you consider that Rasmussen has a reputation for skewing its results in favor of conservative causes/candidates. I’m thinking maybe your propaganda (and I appreciate you admitting that it is, in fact, propaganda) isn’t quite as effective as you think it is.
http://www.rasmussenreports.com/public_content/politics/general_politics/january_2012/49_of_voters_are_pro_choice_43_pro_life
Gallup had nearly the same results back in May. What I find most interesting is that although more identify as “pro-choice” than “pro-life”, the majority (51%) believe abortion is morally wrong. Those that are “pro-choice” but believe abortion is morally wrong…those are the ones we need to work on converting.
http://www.gallup.com/poll/147734/americans-split-along-pro-choice-pro-life-lines.aspx
“As seen by the statistic that one out of every 10 Americans is an ex Catholic, some of these children reject “the truth.”
Yes, many Americans do reject truth – for whatever their reasons. It doesn’t change Truth. I recommend interested persons read Rodney Stark’s book, “The Rise of Christianity”. The parallels between the truly misogynistic and brutal Greco-Roman culture and 21st century America are strong – and then, as now, the Church is the greatest upholder of the dignity and worth of women and children. If Christians follow the path shown us by the early Christians, abortion and abuse of women will soon end. It requires us to follow the Teachings of Jesus Christ as faithfully as we can.
cc, early in the Church women were not ordained but they served as deaconesses for this purpose: to be able to assist in the baptisms of women, to preserve their MODESTY, so that baptisms didn’t become wet-t-shirt contests.
Watch the film “Blood Money” to see how separating young teens and women from their MODESTY is instrumental in encouraging the kind of impulse-driven behavior that makes abortion facilities so profitable.
Aside to pro-lifers: watch how any mention of modesty and behavior riles up the ‘act out all you want and ask the tax-payers to pay for your abortions’ crowd. They call it ‘slut-shaming’ a phrase INVENTED by abortion advocates, a phrase NOT invented by pro-lifers.
“But not all Christians agree with you as well as those who are non-Christians. But once again, you show how the anti-choice movement is a quasi-Christian religious cult and that’s why those who consider themselves moderate and secular do not identify themselves as pro-life.”
Well, there are certainly those of us who consider us moderate/liberal/libertarian and secular, and still identify as pro-life. I do, I have several friends who do as well. You can try to pigeonhole it all you want, but if pro-life was a purely religious movement you certainly wouldn’t find people like me involved in it. You will probable ignore this and just argue with ninek about Catholicism, since that seems to be your issue.
“Yesterday I told a friend I view one of my online roles as that of a pro-life Tokyo Rose.” – what, peddling lies and misinformation as propaganda for a lost cause? It didn’t work against the freedom cherishing allies and it won’t work against freedom cherishing pro-choicers.
But it did work for the freedom-loving abolitionists.
“Why don’t we just tell the Mom’s who “wanted” the abortion that her child died during birth and then put the child in an adoption agency.”
Serious violation of medical ethics. And really nice for the “baby” who will, at some point in life, find out about their forced “birth.”
__________________________________________________
Serious violation of medical ethics? Forced “birth”? So all of us born before legalized abortion have now been educated that we are products of our mothers being forced to not kill us. Hilarious.
Another one for MPQ.
agree with mpq we really have to stop being so tolerant with pro aborts. 40 years of this hasnt gotten us anywhere.. not all of them are going to make it. i will help them when i can but God also says that some will be turned over to a reprobate mind. i give up. besides there has always been a stigma with abortion. it must be because a dead baby is the end product of a choice. i cant give you shame. thats already going on with many pro aborts. shame goes with abortion.
Thanks X and everyone for all the supportive comments. Megan, I gotta admit as a busy mom I’ve gotten really behind in my clinic firebombings/abortionist shootings-generally I like to have all acts of mayhem over with before noon cause I hate getting behind in my housework. LOL.
Anyway, the fact that abortion carries such stigma after 40 years is a great illustration of how it will never become socially or morally acceptable. Murder should always be stigmatized, and we shouldn’t be worrying about the murderer’s feelings when it is. Nuff said.
Extra LOL for the ‘govt intrusion into the uterus’ schtick-proaborts certainly don’t seem to mind govt/taxpayer intrusion when they’re screeching for taxpayer funded abortions, do they…
What ‘lies’ are we peddling, Reality? Proaborts can’t even give women medically accurate information. The ‘it’s not a babu it’s a parasitic lump of cells’ rhetoric isn’t working anymore, esp in the google era when fetal devlopment and 4D ultrasound are readily available. Your undoing is already underway. Pack up the suction machine and go home.
‘baby’, that was. Doh.
