Pro-life blog buzz 8-15-14

pro-lifeby Susie Allen, host of the blog, Pro-Life in TN, and Kelli

  • At Coming Home, Dr. Gerard Nadal details the perfect storm swirling in Australia (as well as the United States) where empirical evidence on the abortion-breast cancer (ABC) link is confronted with an ideology which seeks to suppress the data:
Melbye, Brinton, and the rest of the NCI coterie deny the validity of their own data (as well as data from all over the globe), data that time and time again substantiate the ABC link. Their sole reason for denying the data in case-control studies (which are retrospective analyses) is the assertion that women who have had induced abortions are more likely to recall them, or report them if they have breast cancer. Dr. Janet Daling who included in one of her studies a test of this putative bias, studied women with cervical cancer and found absolutely no recall bias in her cases or controls. That makes sense because nearly all cervical cancers are caused by human papilloma virus. Janet Daling also publishes with the deniers….

The issue is the legality of induced abortion and what the frightening specter of breast cancer fifteen or twenty years later might mean. In other words, it’s scientists denying scientific data because of a political agenda.

  • At National Review, Andrew Walker discusses data (left; click to enlarge) emerging from a recent survey which shows that churchgoing Christians who believe same-sex marriage is acceptable also tend to reject other Christian teachings about sex:

According to [sociologist Mark] Regnerus, churchgoing Christians (who were comparably much fewer in number as a pool of respondents), register much higher support for pornography, cohabitation, casual sex, and higher support than the general population for abortion rights….

… Regnerus’ study reaffirms that “sexuality isn’t ancillary to Christianity, in the way some other cultural or political issues are. Marriage and sex point, the Bible says, to a picture of the gospel itself, the union of Christ and his church. This is why the Bible spends so much time, as some critics would put it, ‘obsessed’ with sex. That’s why, historically, churches that liberalize on sex tend to liberalize themselves right out of Christianity itself.”…

It may seem too simple to infer, but the conclusion begs to be written: Liberal sexual beliefs work, in the long run, to make fewer Christians.

  • Big Blue Wave links to the story of a former pro-choicer who took the time to question her position by examining the hard evidence, which led her to a pro-life conversion. One thing she notes is the lack of information on the pro-choice side:
The biggest thing I noticed, however, was that… [t]he pro-lifers encouraged women to educate themselves….

On the pro-choice side, it was a totally different story.

… To my concern and surprise, I could not find one shred of information about fetal development on any websites associated with the pro-choice movement. When I read their literature about the details of abortion procedures, they were full of insulting euphemisms…. I felt like I had been transported back to Victorian England, where women weren’t supposed to be told hard facts, even about their own bodies, because they might get all flustered.

  • Another conversion story comes from an interview posted at the Canadian Centre for Bio Ethical Reform, in which Jonathon Van Maren talks with Donny Pauling (pictured right), “a former pornographic film producer who is currently an anti-porn activist, Christian speaker, and Internet advertiser. His views were shaped by his time in the porn industry, in which he worked for nine years, and led him to view its effect as detrimental to persons involved.”

With Planned Parenthood in the news for encouraging minors to access pornography, this is timely.

  • Abstinence Clearinghouse links to an article which states that pre-marital sex is not the glue that keeps a relationship stable:

Pre-marital sex or otherwise does not provide the glue to committed life relationships. It complicates break ups and may trigger many false starts in subsequent relationships.

Nowadays, the thing that God designed to bring fulfillment and oneness in the confines of marriage has become the source of many relationship wounds, tears and misconceptions.

  • A Culture of Life says a new service, Time Lapse Morphometry Imaging, is allowing scientists to closely examine developing embryos created through IVF in order to determine which ones will have the “best prognosis” for successful implantation in women age 37 and younger. The cost would be an additional $1000 – but what is the real cost of IVF? The loss of dignity of human life:

While the birth of a baby is always worth rejoicing over, we do have concerns over how these babies have been conceived…. Their siblings, deemed “not good enough” were discarded as nothing more than medical waste. The remaining ‘lucky’ embryos had their lives suspended through cryopreservation for possible use later on.

  • Live Action News says the new movie The Giver is receiving good reviews from pro-lifers:

In the Washington Post, nationally-syndicated columnist, Michael Gerson notes: “No movie, in my memory, involves a more explicit depiction of infanticide, conducted at the Nurturing Center by Jonas’s father with a horrifying cheerfulness. ‘They hadn’t eliminated murder,’ Jonas realizes, ‘they had brought it home. They had just called it by a different name.’”

Pro-life vid of the day: Cheerios shows “How to Dad”

by Hans Johnson

Many a television sitcom has portrayed fathers as bumbling and even clueless. Yes, this has been a gentle push-back to patriarchal authority. But in recent years we have been reminded of the indispensable role that fathers play in the family unit. This full-length version of a Cheerios tv commercial is a salute to dads everywhere.

Rand Paul: Civilization cannot endure abortion

rand-paulby Kelli

The interesting thing is when you’re in the neonatal nursery and you’ve got a one-pound baby, everybody acknowledges that that baby has rights, the Bill of Rights applies to that baby and nobody can hurt that baby… It’s a one-pound baby.

But a week before, even a full-term seven-pound baby has no rights, according to the way people are looking at it, and I think that is a big mistake…

I think, and I often say in my speeches, that I don’t think a civilization can long endure that doesn’t respect the rights of the unborn.

Pro-life vid of day: Comedian jokes about ultrasound laws

klineby Kelli

Comedian Andy Kline (pictured right) gained some attention from NARAL this week on Twitter for his 2012 joke about transvaginal ultrasound laws.

The female author of this Upworthy article, which includes Kline’s comedy routine transcript, says Kline “makes an excellent point,” but I can’t seem to find it:

Look, I don’t know what kind of used car salesmen are working at the abortion clinics. How does it even go? You show up and go, “Yeah, I’m here for an abortion.”

“Can I interest you in a baby?”

No, literally, the opposite of that situation?

“Look, here’s a picture of a fetus with a party hat on!”

“What’s that behind your ear? Someone who will take care of you when you’re old?”

If they’re gonna do that, shouldn’t they also be required to show you pictures how your life will be affected if you choose to have the child?

Like, “Look, here’s all your friends having fun without you!”

“Look at this one,”

“That one’s blank.”

“That’s how much money you’ll have!”

Hilarious, right? But maybe Andy isn’t aware that many women who have had abortions have stated that abortion clinics already do a bang-up job of preying on women’s vulnerability and fears about finances and the future they think they will lose if they give birth to their children.

Woman at abortion display: “No one told me it looked like that”

by Kelli

gapvanmaren

I started to feel uncomfortable about the signs I was standing in front of. So I asked her what she thought.

She started crying. She was angry. “No one told me. No one told me it looked like that,” she said in a broken voice.

She continued, talking faster now: “All the reasons I had to abort—financial, educational, my difficulties with my boyfriend, seemed so logical at the time. No one ever showed me these pictures, or told me what abortion actually did. And now I have to live the rest of my life with the realization that I denied my baby Raven a chance at life. And there is no reason good enough for that.”

And that’s when I came to a realization: Her sin of commission was our sin of omission. In a country filled with Christians, filled with pro-lifers, the only person who had talked to this girl about abortion was an abortionist who took her money and killed her baby.

I realized then what I’ve realized a hundred times since: It doesn’t hurt a post-abortive woman to see a photo of an aborted baby. It only hurts her if she doesn’t see it in time. Like the middle-aged Asian woman who told me she had two abortions, but wouldn’t have had either of them if she’d seen our signs while making the decision. Like the girl in front of a high school who wondered why no one had ever told her what abortion actually did before….

She told me she’d named her aborted child “Raven,” and she had tattooed that name across her stomach just above the place that Raven lived out her short life.

And as I listened, I made up my mind that no girl or woman should ever be denied the truth about abortion. For the child’s sake, and for her sake.

Because we’ve lost too many little Ravens already.

Pro-life vid of day: Family reunion story subject of new book

reunion2-620x479by Hans Johnson

In May 2014, we brought you the incredible story of a mother-daughter reunion that took a lifetime to accomplish. In 1928, 16-year-old Minka Disbrow (pictured on the left) had been raped, and only when she began to show did her mother explain to her how babies came about.

Minka gave the baby she named Betty Jane up for adoption, and after marrying and raising a family, did not reveal this to them until she was 94. By this time, her first daughter, renamed Ruth Lee, had raised six children of her own – one an astronaut who had been on four space missions.

Because of medical issues, Ruth was spurred on to seek her biological family history. With the help of her son Brian, she obtained her adoption records, which had a treasure trove of letters that her mother, Minka, had sent over the years inquiring about her. “I was just overwhelmed with looking at all the letters asking about her little girl. And so I tell you, the love that flowed from those letters was like a waterfall of love,” Ruth said.

Cathy LaGrow (pictured above with her mother and grandmother), author of The Waiting says of her grandmother Minka: “It was her faith that allowed her to have that hope through all those years – that Betty Jane was having a good life and had a strong family.”

Here is the video of their first meeting uploaded by Billy Hallowell of TheBlaze:

She said in that meeting “What a glorious day!” And so it was.

Minka passed away June 18 at the age of 102.

BREAKING: In new undercover video Planned Parenthood tells minor “harm” ok if consensual

Planned Parenthood gives dangerous sex BDSM advice to minorsToday Live Action released its fifth undercover video exposing Planned Parenthoods across the country as promoters and educators to minors of dangerous, violent sexual activity known as BDSM*.

In this video, shot at the Planned Parenthood in Eden Prairie, Minnesota, the “counselor” goes so far as to tell Live Action’s investigator, posing as a 15-year-old, that causing “harm” to her is “ok” if consensual. That is not only sick advice, it is dangerous. Consensual harm to what extent? Quoting Live Action’s press release:

“Anything within the sexual world is normal as long as it’s consensual.”  This includes “rope burns” and “markings” from “clamps.”  It includes going to sex shops, two of which the counselor recommends specifically.  It includes the sort of activity promoted in the explicitly pornographic and abuse-glorifying Fifty Shades of Grey.

Here’s the video:

As a reminder, Planned Parenthood gets over $500 million in tax dollars every year, in part to give sex advice to kids. This must stop!

How to exorcise a former abortion facility

Holy-Waterby Carder

Go into every nook and cranny of the place, omitting not a single one. Sprinkle every corner and crack abundantly with Holy Water, also blessed with the older Rituale. If I were doing this, I would even use blessed salt around the perimeter of the whole place, the corners of the rooms, and over the floors before laying new carpet, perhaps also with medals.

In such a place, where so much evil has taken place, the clutch of the Enemy will be strong indeed.

Do not use half measures. Nuke the place.

~ Fr. John Zuhlsdorf, recommending that Bishop Earl Boyea of Lansing, Michigan, exorcise a former abortion facility that will be used as parish offices, What Does the Prayer Really Say?, August 10
