Pro-life video of the day: Justice for the preborn

MLKmural640by Hans Johnson

On this Martin Luther King Day it would seem appropriate to note that a Phase Two of the Civil Rights Movement is underway. While many are chanting that Black Lives Matter regarding police relations with minorities, they completely overlook many hundreds of thousands of young lives lost each year through abortion.

Dr. King’s niece, Dr. Alveda King of Priests For Life, says these protesters are being cynically promoted: “The media has another agenda; if they really thought that black lives matter they would be protesting abortion on demand.”
At the press conference announcing the new campaign Healing the Shockwaves of Abortion, Dr. King said:

#BlackLivesMatter if you stop aborting black babies. If you’re gonna target one group of human beings because of skin color, and do genocide and eugenics, it’s going to be very apparent that human life is devalued.

Abby Johnson’s healing process

abby_johnson_sidewalk_road-copyby Carder

Healing in public has not been easy. It has not been ideal. But, in the end, it has been worth it. Thank you for being on this journey with me, even when it wasn’t pretty. Thank you for loving me in spite of my past sins. Thank you for embracing my ministry that reaches out to others who need healing. Thank you for looking past the victory of an abortion clinic worker who switched sides and just seeing ME… a broken sinner in need of grace, mercy and compassion.

You will never know how much your prayers, your kind words and your hugs have healed my heart.

Sunday Word: “My CHOICE is you, God, first and only.”

My choice is you, God, first and only. And now I find I’m your choice!

~ Psalm 16:5, Message translation, the most fitting use of one’s “choice,” a word that has been selfishly twisted by abortion proponents, such as…

Stanek weekend Q: How will you mark the 42nd anniversary of Roe?

26march-superJumbo

I have many plans for “Roe week,” beginning today when I pick my son-in-law Andy Moore up from the airport.

Andy will be speaking at Springfield Right to Life’s Recommitment to Life Rally in the Illinois State Capitol Rotunda tomorrow.

Then he and I will fly to D.C. tomorrow night, and I’ll be attending pro-life events January 21-23 nonstop, including the March for Life on the 22nd. (See StanekReport.com for a list of events nationwide.)

Next Saturday I’ll fly to Texas, where I’ll attend the Austin Rally for Life, and on Sunday I’ll speak to pro-life college students for Texas Right to Life.

It will be a week of mixed emotions. The horror of the Roe v. Wade decision on January 22, 1973, only becomes less comprehensible as the years go by and the death toll mounts, now at 57 million babies. But getting the once-annually opportunity to see many friends and colleagues is always encouraging and inspiring.

What about you? How will you be marking the terrible 42nd anniversary of Roe v. Wade?

LA Health Dept. blocks abortions at new $4 mil NOLA Planned Parenthood, and Cecile Richards is really mad about it

download (3)I’ve written several times about Planned Parenthood’s attempt to build an abortion clinic in New Orleans.

Pro-lifers, including Archbishop Gregory Aymond,  have been valiantly trying to block the completion of this $4 million baby butcher shop.

Well, word came yesterday that the Louisiana Health Department is doing the blocking for us. From chron.com:

Louisiana’s health department is refusing to let Planned Parenthood perform abortion services at its new clinic under construction in New Orleans, the latest flashpoint in a long-running dispute over abortion access in the state.

The organization received a rejection letter last week from the Department of  Health and Hospitals, which said Planned Parenthood didn’t demonstrate the need for another abortion facility in Louisiana.

“Your application failed to establish the probability of serious, adverse consequences to recipients’ ability to access outpatient abortion services if you are not allowed to apply for licensure,” Health and Hospitals Secretary Kathy Kliebert wrote in the rejection letter….

Under a set of 2012 regulations, the Jindal administration required abortion clinics to undergo the same “facility need review” required of residential care facilities, like nursing homes and hospice facilities.

The regulations require any outpatient abortion facility to demonstrate its services are needed to preserve access before it can apply for a license to perform abortions in the state. The state health department used those regulations to refuse Planned Parenthood’s application.

Planned Parenthood has 30 days from the application rejection to decide whether to appeal the health department’s decision to an administrative law judge, or it can skip that review and file a lawsuit challenging the rejection.

Louisiana has five abortion clinics around the state.

Planned Parenthood’s $4 million health center, expected to open later this year, would be the third clinic offering abortions in the New Orleans area.

That is just wonderful news! But Planned Parenthood president Cecile Richards promptly blasted a pile of fuming tweets. (She may have blocked me from Twitter, but I have my ways.) A sampling…

Looks like Planned Parenthood was looking forward to doubling its business by offering abortions, particularly since it is conveniently located between Mississippi, which only has one abortion clinic, and southeast Texas, which has none.

Can’t see how NOLA PP can survive without killing – oh, the irony.

The duplicity of the pro-abortion movement regarding brain-dead pregnant mothers

stock-footage-hospital-medical-equipment-to-monitor-heart-beat-of-mother-and-baby-in-a-maternity-hospitalWhen abortion is the topic, their rhetoric is all about the woman’s right to choose—forget the family. They assume women will want abortion, so they trim their rhetorical sails to that wind.

But when the woman isn’t able to do any choosing, and her family wants to pull the plug—well, then the rhetoric is all about the family’s wishes….

You’ll listen a long time before you hear a word about the mother’s presumed desire for her baby to live.

Nary a breath of advocacy for the baby from these self-styled women’s advocates—even if it is logical to presume that the baby was wanted.

Is Rep. Renee Ellmers a pro-choice mole?

150116_renee_ellmers_gty_629_956x519-604x270

It’s never easy for pro-lifers, but it’s particularly frustrating when one of our own plays into the enemy’s hands.

Or maybe supposedly pro-life Republican Congresswoman Renee Ellmers has become a pro-choice mole.

Whatever, from Politico this afternoon comes this disheartening news:

A group of female GOP lawmakers is trying to pressure the Republican leadership team to make changes to a 20-week abortion ban the House is set to vote on next week.

Led by Rep. Renee Ellmers of North Carolina, the lawmakers are protesting language that requires a rape victim to formally report her assault to police to qualify for an exemption from the legislation’s abortion restrictions….

The Justice Department estimates that only 32% of rape victims report their rapes to authorities.

A Republican staffer involved in the discussion said at least six lawmakers had raised the issue with Majority Whip Steve Scalise (R-LA) during a closed-door meeting Tuesday. The senior-level aide said the Republican lawmakers argue that enacting a ban with only a formal exemption could further dissuade rape victims from coming forward.

The lawmakers, the staffer said, are aggressively pressing Scalise to rewrite the bill to include a broader exemption for victims of sexual assault before the bill comes to the floor next week.

Lovely of Rep. Ellmers to hand the other side talking points on a silver platter. Politico again, quoting two key members of the House Pro-Choice Caucus:

Democrats quickly criticized the proposed legislation.

Reps. Louise Slaughter (D-NY) and Diana DeGette (D-CO) said it was “unconscionable” to force rape victims to formally report the rape before seeking an abortion.

“Forcing women to go on-the-record about such a traumatic experience as a prerequisite to getting help is unconscionable, and adds to the pain of women who are survivors of rape or incest,” the two Democrats said in a statement.

Right, we certainly wouldn’t want to encourage victims to report their rapes, so their perpetrators might be stopped from terrorizing them again, or other girls and women.

And women would never lie about being raped. Ask Rolling Stone about that. Or Duke.

According to National Journal, Ellmers added a second beef:

In a closed-door open-mic session of House Republicans, Rep. Renee Ellmers… [said] she believes the bill will cost the party support among millennials, according to several sources in the room.

“I have urged leadership to reconsider bringing it up next week.… We got into trouble last year, and I think we need to be careful again; we need to be smart about how we’re moving forward,” Ellmers said in an interview. “The first vote we take, or the second vote, or the fifth vote, shouldn’t be on an issue where we know that millennials—social issues just aren’t as important [to them].”

Erick Erickson is calling Ellmers “a lying waste of oxygen” over this among many other flip flops:

Just as the GOP has decided to stand firm on a piece of legislation supported by +60% of the nation, she’s scared people won’t like her.

That’s right. The “pro-life” congresswoman now claims that putting pro-life legislation on the floor of the House of Representatives would be a terrible, awful thing to do.

She lied about her immigration position. Now she’s lying about her pro-life position.

The other side loves this chink in the heretofore united Republican front on the Pain Capable Unborn Child Protection Act….
