Stanek wkend Q: Agree with bishop that pro-lifers must support illegal immigration?

illegal-immigrantsFrom Patheos, November 14:

Archbishop Jose Gomez of Los Angeles… made it clear that any pro-life platform must include respect for the dignity of the immigrant.

Asked whether immigration is connected to the pro-life position, he explained, “Obviously the Church is very concerned about the culture of life. But life from conception until natural death. So all those issues are part of the dignity of the human person. So I think that’s obviously a connection, in the sense that we care about every single person.”…

“I think the basic principles we would like to see are a path to citizenship, unity of families, and also ending deportation,” stated Archbishop Gomez. He also noted the need to better understand “the movements of people in a global world.”

“Families are torn apart by enforcement actions,” Bishop Elizondo said. He stressed the goals of working to “promote family unity” and “provide immigrants and their families legal protection.”

Pretty simple question: Do you agree with Archbishop Gomez that pro-lifers must support illegal immigration?

Also be sure to take the poll…

House Democrats refuse to let pregnant double-amputee congresswoman vote from home

XXX DNC-HDB1504.JPG A USA NCHT to The Daily Caller for my title. From that piece:

House Democrats are refusing to allow Rep. Tammy Duckworth, a double-amputee veteran, to cast her vote for party leadership from her home in Illinois where she is pregnant and unable to travel.

Duckworth, who lost both legs when her helicopter was shot down in the Iraq War in 2004, sent a letter to Democratic House leadership requesting to cast her vote by proxy, National Journal reports.

“As you are aware, I am in the final weeks of my pregnancy, and have been instructed by my physician not to travel,” Duckworth wrote. “As a result, I will not be attending the upcoming Caucus meetings in person.”

“I would like to require a proxy vote on the upcoming leadership and ranking member elections that will come before the Caucus in the coming weeks.”

House Democrats’ policy requires members to vote for party leadership in person.

The letter was read during a closed-door meeting on Thursday, but senior party leaders, including House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi and Democratic Steering Committee co-chair Rosa DeLauro, from Connecticut, moved to block the request.Rosa_DeLauro_109th_pictorial_photo

DeLauro is a member of the Congressional Pro-Choice Caucus. Not very pro-choice of her.

And speaking of DeLauro (pictured right), as @KateNocera noted on Twitter in light of the above, “well this is super awkward”…

  • Down on the Pharm reminds us that the old “hCG in the tetanus vaccine” scandal happening in Kenya right now is nothing new:

It has all the markers of previous suspected lacings of tetanus vaccines, given to pregnant women in Mexico in 1993, and the Philippines in 1994. In the latter case, HCG was actually found in vaccine samples, and antibodies to HCG were demonstrated in women who had received the vaccine. The antibodies to HCG bind to the natural hormone found in a woman’s body when she gets pregnant, and inhibit further support of the pregnancy. A miscarriage (spontaneous abortion) ensues.

The Catholic Bishops of Kenya, getting no cooperation from the government, obtained six samples of tetanus vaccine and had them tested at labs in Kenya and in South Africa. All six of them showed the presence of HCG. The Kenyan government persisted in denying that there could be any HCG in tetanus vaccines provided under the auspices of the World Health Organization and UNICEF.

  • Live Action News shares the story of a father who not only said goodbye to his wife Ashley, who died after an emergency c-section, but to their premature son, Lennon, four days later. Chris Picco exemplifies the belief that his son was precious before his birth, and that this is only “goodbye for now.” May God comfort Chris as he honors the memory of his beautiful family.
  • Abstinence Clearinghouse links to Janice Shaw Crouse’s article in American Thinker which points out “that through their votes, unmarried women voters made a statement that they are more concerned about creating and keeping jobs, rather than free birth control, food stamps, etc. These results came as a surprise to many who stated that these free items are what women truly want and need.”
  • Fletcher Armstrong shares four lessons learned from the voters’ response to various pro-life laws, including Tennessee’s Amendment 1.
  • Clinic Quotes has a statement from ultrasound technician Shari Richard who claims simply showing a sonogram picture has pro-aborts terrified:

For 10 years I have been an ultrasonographer and have witnessed the development of pre-born children. I am convinced that if every mother could see her baby on ultrasound, the abortion argument would be over. A look through the window reveals the true victim of abortion. This is why our presentations are often censored….

In 1990, I testified on fetal development before the House and Senate subcommittee considering the “Freedom of Choice Act.” I brought an ultrasound videotape of fully formed fetuses as young as eight weeks after conception. Representative Don Edwards (D – CA) tried to prevent me from showing the videotape.

  • In the same vein, Maaike Rosendal at the Canadian Centre for Bio-Ethical Reform writes about a fantastic backfire that occurred when pro-choice protestors tried to silence a public, on-campus pro-life speaking event at McMaster University. It ended with several pro-choicers questioning why their own side refused to even listen to pro-life arguments:

As soon as the club president welcomed everyone, she was interrupted by excessive applause and yelling. When she asked the audience to be courteous, protesters began delivering speeches on the reproduction of various animals while cheered on by others. For the next hour, they made it impossible for the presentation to take place with the aid of an air horn, bull horn, and silly string while singing, whistling, throwing paper balls, and mockingly reading from the Bible.

A few open-minded students begged the protesters to stop. “I’m pro-choice too but I’m very disappointed in your behaviour,” a female student exclaimed. “I’m really interested in hearing their side,” another young woman said. The protesters clearly weren’t. “What are they afraid of?” someone asked aptly. “Why are they stopping us from seeing what abortion looks like?”…

When the solution to difficult life circumstances is not solving problems but killing pre-born people, forcibly silencing born people you find problematic isn’t that much different. Thursday night’s protesters illustrated their point powerfully: pro-choice for some means no choice for others.

I wasn’t the only one who noticed this, and the contrast between the two sides was crystal clear…. When the protesters verbally harassed pro-choice girls who asked them to be quiet, accusing them of being “rats” and “traitors” to the extent that one left in tears, campus pro-life students were compassionate, caring, and exchanged contact information to make sure she was okay….

Not only did pro-choicers thank the team for being “humble, loving, and professional,” one attendee wrote: “Your arguments were very scientifically accurate and irrefutable.” Someone else messaged later, “As someone who was on the fence… I am finding myself more and more fully against abortion in ANY case. Thank you for coming to our school and being so great!”

Judge deciding Planned Parenthood of Cincinnati’s lawsuit is former president of Planned Parenthood of Cincinnati

blacktimothyDayton Daily News reported yesterday:

The federal judge who could decide the fate of Cincinnati’s last remaining abortion clinic has ties to the Planned Parenthood facility.

Well, it’s a little more than that.

On November 10, Planned Parenthood of Southwest Ohio filed a lawsuit to block enforcement at its Cincinnati mill of Ohio’s law mandating that abortion clinics have transfer agreements with a nearby hospital.

The federal judge who has been assigned to the case is Timothy Black, who coincidentally served as Director of Planned Parenthood Association of Cincinnati from 1986-89 and President of the group in 1988.

No surprise, Black is an Obama appointee.

You may recall Black was also assigned to Susan B. Anthony v. Driehaus, wherein Democrat Steve Driehaus filed a federal complaint against the pro-life group, blaming it for his 2010 loss. Driehaus claimed SBA List lied by saying he voted for taxpayer funded abortion by supporting Obamacare.

Black sided with Driehaus but was eventually overruled – unanimously – by the U.S. Supreme Court.

Clearly, Black should recuse himself in the current case. Conflict of interest much?

No, El Salvador’s abortion ban is not the cause of teen suicides

El Salvador abortionby Kelli

In countries where abortion is currently illegal, abortion advocates tend to exploit the “hard cases” (rape, incest, life of the mother) to use as weapons in their battle to liberalize abortion law.

The “women’s health” movement’s end goal isn’t really the betterment of women in general – it’s the removal of all roadblocks to abortion. And countries who resist the worldwide death march are often under immense international pressure to change their stance on the sanctity of human life.

Case in point: El Salvador, where, as Fox News reports, “girls aged 10 to 19 account[ed] for nearly a third of all pregnancies in the country last year.”

Read that again. Ages 10 to 19.

More from Fox:

Under Salvadoran law, it is a crime to have sex with a child under the age of 15, but activists say the law is frequently flouted, citing official figures that show 1,540 girls under 15 became pregnant in El Salvador last year.

The offense carries a prison sentence of between 14 and 20 years, but few perpetrators are sent to jail.

[Mario] Soriano [of the country’s health ministry] said a 1998 total ban on abortion has led many pregnant girls to contemplate suicide or a backstreet termination rather than risk rejection from their families, friends and teachers.

“A pregnant girl is often discriminated against. She can find herself kicked out of the house and dumped by her boyfriend, so family is not seen as a source of help. She’s also expelled from school because she’s seen as setting a bad example to other pupils,” Soriano said.

Wow, sounds like the solution would be to actually enforce the laws and perhaps put forth some educational and outreach efforts to help these young women, who are obviously being victimized. But the “women’s health” movement has a different idea. Soriano continues:

El Salvador’s abortion law is one of the most restrictive in the world. At the health ministry, we’re aware of the need to modify the abortion law.

So let’s get this straight: the law is flouted, perpetrators are walking the streets freely, and pregnant girls – not their rapists – are the ones who are discriminated against and ostracized. And the solution is abortion?

How would killing innocent parties help these young women?

The article goes on to say – only as an afterthought to liberalizing abortion law – that perhaps the government should also try to address the rape issue with Salvadoran men. Well, there’s a thought.

So no, I would argue that after 16 years of an abortion ban, this is NOT what’s driving these pregnant teens to suicide.

elsalvadorWhat’s driving them to suicide is the culture that won’t allow them, as women, to stand against their rapists without fear of reprisal. It’s the culture that ostracizes pregnant teens instead of helping them. It’s the culture that treats rape victims as “bad examples” and second-class citizens. It’s the culture that calls a preborn child conceived in rape “the rapist’s baby” and “cursed” instead of viewing that baby as a person, wholly separate from his/her father and his crimes.

These are the factors that drive women to desperation.

Legalizing abortion would not save a single one of these young women from demoralizing abuse. In fact, it may subject them to it even further, as evidence of the crime can easily be “covered up,” as we’ve seen right here in America.

The liberal “wisdom” of the day insists that children are “sexual beings” (thanks, Alfred Kinsey) and that maybe pedophilia and incest aren’t as harmful as we once thought… and yet, these twisted “experts” have left and will continue to leave broken children in their wake – children whom they were supposed to protect and nurture, not treat as sexual objects.

Killing the children of these victimized children is not the solution. Death is not the solution to death.
