UPDATE: All decisions for today have been released, and this one wasn’t included. We await Thursday.

10:04a: An important Supreme Court decision is anticipated, either in a few minutes or Thursday morning, on a case of significance to pro-life activists. Abortion proponents are also watching for this decision closely. So I’m giving you a heads-up and backdrop.

Let’s start this conversation by taking violence off the table. Both pro-lifers and abortion supporters agree that violence emanating from either side is wrong and committed by outliers.

Beyond that, where, if ever, can pro-lifers cross the line? The U.S. Supreme Court is currently considering the constitutionality of a Massachusetts buffer zone law, the decision of which will have implications across the country. Can a state or municipality erect an unseen red line of whatever distance it decides to keep pro-lifers from reaching out to mothers going into abortion clinics to kill their babies? The other side, of course, calls this harassment.

• Pro-lifers are suing over the abortion clinic buffer zone law in Madison, Wisconsin:
  The City Council approved the ordinance Tuesday. It creates a protective zone within 160 feet of health care facilities to allow patients and others to enter and exit without obstruction.Under the ordinance, people on public way or sidewalks within that 160-foot radius may not approach, without consent, another person within 8 feet for the purpose of oral protest, education, counseling, passing leaflets or handbills, or displaying signs. Violations of the ordinance are punishable by fines ranging from $300 to $750.
