Three abortion groups admit sex-selective abortion a problem in U.S.

Until now pro-abortion groups have opposed state and federal bans against sex selective abortions by simply denying they exist, for instance Jezebel only six days ago:

[I]n the U.S., there’s no evidence or noteworthy numbers to indicate that women are having abortions based on the sex of the infant….

Apparently, abortion industry leaders have decided they can no longer carry on the ruse. Public opinion is so persuaded against sex-selective abortion, the other side must have decided they have to enter the conversation in order to remain players and try to influence the outcome.

The first to fall was Guttmacher Institute in its Spring 2012 Policy Review, published sometime after May 1:

  • Planned Parenthood is opposed to forced abortion so much that they issued a press release regarding Chen Guangcheng after he had already made it safely to the United States. Gee, thanks.
  • Robin Marty attempts to prove that if abortion is difficult to get, women will go to desperate lengths to end their pregnancy. She highlights a British woman who died after drinking concentrated vinegar in a home abortion attempt. One large problem with this argument is abortion is readily available in Great Britain and paid for by tax dollars. So the example undercuts Marty’s argument because it shows that some women, regardless of how much access there is to abortion, will do stupid, dangerous things.

Planned Parenthood fears it has been stung again – this time on sex selective abortions

Planned Parenthood thinks it has been the target of another pro-life undercover sting, this one on sex selective abortions.

On April 23 Planned Parenthood’s Vice President of Education Leslie Kantor and Senior Medical Advisor Carolyn Westhoff coauthored an attempt to preempt an exposé they think may be coming in an RH Reality Check op ed:

  • University of Michigan Students for Life share their experiences with the setting up of a Cemetery of Innocents display. In their interactions with people, some hearts were changed, but others were just plain confusing:

Pro-choice prayer campaign “not a mockery of 40 Days for Life”

They claim they think it’s a mockery of the 40 days for Life campaign, but I don’t think there is any mockery in it. The prayers are quite sincere. Apparently the religious right does not believe that anyone is allowed to pray except those who believe as they do. This is not a biblical idea; […]

  • In Pennsylvania, a 14-year-old boy has been found guilty for killing his father’s fiancee and her unborn child when he was 11:

Lawrence County Judge John Hodge found the now-14-year-old Jordan Brown delinquent, the juvenile court equivalent of a guilty verdict, in the deaths of 26-year-old Kenzie Houk and her unborn child.

  • Here’s a quote you wouldn’t normally see at RH Reality Check:

Yet both sides agree there is a moral urgency to ending the contamination of human beings from toxic chemicals, beginning in the womb. Government interest in fetal life shouldn’t be limited to blocking women’s right to choose. Instead, governments should choose to protect the interest in a healthy fetus by protecting women’s health, specifically women’s right to bear children and their right to a healthy pregnancy.

Interestingly, Margie Kelly thinks that “by separating fetuses from the fetal environment [by displaying prenatal photos and ultrasounds], [pro-lifers] make women into enemies of the fetus.”

  • Bookmark this from RH Reality Check to respond to claims that “no one likes abortion”:

I love abortion. I don’t accept it. I don’t view it as a necessary evil. I embrace it.

I donate to abortion funds. I write about how important it is to make sure that every woman has access to safe, legal abortion services. I have bumper stickers and buttons and t-shirts proclaiming my support for reproductive freedom. I love abortion.
