UPDATE, 11/1, 4:55p: Fallen GOP NY-23 candidate Dede Scozzafava endorsed Democrat Bill Owens today. According to The Hill…
… Scozzafava, who’d been chosen by local Republican leaders to try to hold the seat for the GOP, instead threw her support behind Democrat Bill Owens – only a day after she unexpectedly backed out of the tough, 3-way special election.
Ultimately, her decision not to back Conservative Party candidate Doug Hoffman… is likely to enrage party leaders, who rallied around Hoffman almost immediately after Scozzafava announced her campaign suspension….
Scozzafava’s late nod to Owens could spell trouble for Hoffman, who is statistically deadlocked with his Democratic opponent in recent polls. The NY assemblywoman is considerably more moderate than Hoffman – and presumably, some of her supporters are too – so the possibility that many of her prospective voters could gravitate toward Owens on Tuesday is not totally unfathomable….
Noted the IL Review, “RNC donors are furious that their contributions were wasted and now will only go to ultimately benefit a Democrat.”

UPDATE, 11/1, 7a: In NY-23 , Dede Scozzafava dropped from the race yesterday. According to Politico (where you can also read her statement):
Republican Dede Scozzafava has suspended her bid in next Tuesday’s NY 23 special election, a huge development that dramatically shakes up the race. She did not endorse either of her 2 opponents – Conservative party candidate Doug Hoffman or Democrat Bill Owens….
The decision to suspend her campaign is a boost for Hoffman, who already had the support of 50% of GOP voters, according to a newly-released Siena poll, and is now well-positioned to win over the 25% of Republicans who had been sticking with Scozzafava.

Scozzafava is running 3rd… with the race between her opponents “too close to call,” according to a Siena College poll published yesterday. The poll of 704 likely voters, taken Oct. 27-29, shows… Owens with 36% of the vote… Hoffman with 35%….
Conservatives including Palin… have rallied around Hoffman… instead of Scozzafava, who supports abortion rights and was endorsed by the state teachers union.
Palin portrayed Hoffman as the contest’s true conservative, along with former House Majority Leader Dick Armey of TX, MN Governor Tim Pawlenty, former Senator Rick Santorum of PA and former Senator Fred Thompson of TN.
Although MSM isn’t the only one projecting Owens as the possible benefactor of Scozzafava’s drop. Allahpundit on Hot Air wrote of a “nightmare scenario of her voters breaking for the Democrat or staying home.”

Allah also wrote of Newt Gingrich’s endorsement of Hoffman following his previous misguided support of Scozzafava.
According to the Washington Post, the National Republican Congressional Committee and Republican National Committee chair Michael Steele are now backing Hoffman.

Republican Robert McDonnell has now opened a 13-point lead over Democrat R. Creigh Deeds with less than a week to go in the race for governor of VA…. 54% to 41%.
The latest round of polling gave evidence that Hoffman is on the rise and has pulled even with, or ahead of, Owens as Scozzafava has fallen into 3rd place….
In a newly-released poll commissioned by the liberal blog Daily Kos, Hoffman is within 1 point of Owens, 33% to 32%, with Scozzafava lagging well behind in 3rd place with 21%.

Although Obama has campaigned heavily in NJ and VA, yesterday White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs downplayed Tuesday’s election results, saying, “I don’t think they portend a lot.”

Obama and the WH are ready to toss Deeds under the bus. They even talk about what a mess the guys looks like! That’s a new low.
Corzine has to insinuate about Christie’s weight. How shocking being that liberals present themselves as such bastions of tolerance. I would think snideness about someone’s weight is just as insensitive as snideness about someone’s race, religion or ethnicity.
Hopefully the Republican Party will get the message if Hoffmann wins. I don’t know what more it will take to make Republicans understand they have a golden opportunity that they are squandering.

I think “we the people” are fed up. “Obamanomics” has energized the electorate and even made converts to the conservative side (notice I said Conservative, not Republican or Democrat). Politicans better wake up to that fact, especially if Hoffman does win without GOP backing. “We’re mad as hell and not going to take it anymore”. (Peter Sellers, movie “Network”) There are too many grassroots groups activated and fighting for the cause of “freedom and liberty” for the elections not to be affected. God bless America!
I just checked Real Clear Politics. Scozzafava has cancelled her campaign and Hoffman and Owens are in a dead heat.
Christie and Corzine are also in a dead heat.
McDonnell looks like he’s got the election but not to fret, the WH is already prepared to blame Deeds and not Obama’s policies for McDonnell’s victory. Who says there’s no honor among thieves?
Can anyone cite any other instance where a major party candidate in a Congressional election bowed out 3 days before the polls opened? Wow.
The clear implication is that no one outside of the far right need apply to be a GOP candidate, and the GOP, if it continues to exist as a party, will be strictly a regional southern party.
Hoffman has shown no knowledge or concern about any NY 23 issues- this is strictly about the far right conquering the GOP.
Bet the Dems wish they would have run a stronger candidate than their designated fall guy in a formerly safe GOP district. :)

Mary, I am not sure how you think the Dems losing (if they lose) an election in NY 23 that they had absolutely no chance of winning, for the last 140 years, sends any kind of “message to Obama”.(NY23 has not been won by a Dem since the Civil War- the one circa 1861-1865, not the recent one between Sarah and Newt :) FDR never won in NY23.
The fact that Owens, a very weak candidate, who was an Independent until last year, might possibly win is remarkable in and of itself.

She wants us to give a loud message that we are not going to take government takeover of healthcare with abortion on demand, $500 million in Medicare cuts, rationing, death panels and higher taxes. Mods do you know anything about this? She announced it on Hannity last night. I really wish I could go but I can’t. Please pass the word to everyone so throngs of people will make it. The victory of a conservative Republican candidate and the failure of the RINO liberal Republican candidate sends a message. Why isn’t it Hoffman who is forced to cancel his campaign?
Maybe because he gives the voters a real choice? At least I hope it sends a message to the Republicans, who seem a little slow about exploiting a golden opportunity.
So what if Democrats have lost for years? Certainly if the people support Obama and his policies the Democrat will win hands down, or at very least the liberal Republican would have. Instead she has been forced to drop out.

Just found the website, it is michelebachmann.com which gives info about the DC protest against Obamacare on Thursday November 5th at 12noon. Michele gave a press release about the RINO candidate dropping out of the race today, she was very gracious to her for stepping aside. She has a link to Doug Hoffmann’s campaign website he needs to raise funds for ads and hopefully the RNC will help him now. I just want to get the word out about the protest on Nov. 5th because Michele Bauchmann, Dick Morris and others say we could stop this bill if the American public comes out in force against it especially our seniors.
Mary, Owens is weak, because good politicians don’t enter hopeless races. It will be news if Owens should win, but not if Hoffman wins, as a Repub winning a safe GOP district is not news.
I don’t know much about Deeds, but he must be extremely weak as well. Isn’t McDonnell the guy who wrote in his thesis that women should be barefoot, pregnant, chained to the stove and silent? I realize VA is the deep South, but holy cow.

This lady is one smart/tough cookie! Personally, I think she has much more of a chance running for a higher political office than Sarah Palin. Although I do like Sarah Palin, Michele Bachmann is so much more of a rising star, in my opinion. I hope we see much more of her in the future.

I would like to read from an official source exactly what McDonnell said in his thesis, not someone’e interpretation of it. I seriously doubt any laws will be radically changed in Virginia because of it. The governor is not a dictator.

I think Bachmann’s comments are the LEAST of their worries. Seems like Americans are anti-Congress!

Hi Mary. Best report I’ve seen yet calls out the AMA for endorsing Obamacare in order to protect their cushy revenue stream licensing CPT codes. I’m glad it’s finally getting some attention.
I love how you call out a guy on being sexist for something he said back in college (which, by the way, has obviously changed in his life since then if you look at the status of his wife and daughters), and then proceed to call 2 prominent female politicians idiots. I said a HIGHER political office. Not the highest. I know I’ll catch a lot of flack for this one, but I don’t believe a woman should ever hold the office of Presidency.
Well, Minnow, I’m inclined to agree with her, seeing as how I refuse to believe anyone could govern so ineptly as our current congress without ulterior motives of destruction of our country as we know it, which would be the definition of anti-American.
Just because someone doesn’t think a certain woman is a good candidate, does not make them a sexist. Just as it’s wrong to say anyone against Obama must be a racist.

Plus, I beg to differ as far as Sarah Pailin being an idiot goes. She’s managed quite a few large-scale operations both privately and publicly and met with a high degree of success in both. Idiocy? I think the proof is in the pudding, and her pudding is idiot-free. As Gov. her projects were an unsuccessful attempt to get her brother in law fired as a state trooper, giving away $500 million to Canada for a pipeline that will never be built, and a $26 million “Road to Nowhere” intended to serve the “Bridge to Nowhere”, that was never built.
As Mayor of Wasilla, she spent $50,000 decorating her office, and saddled the town with a $20 million debt for the Sports Complex, which looks so much like her house, since they were built at the same time, with the same materials and labor.
(the sports complex was built on land the town didn’t own)
I readily admit that since she quit as Gov she has made out like a bandit- you betcha’ also, too.

Just because I hate misinformation, here’s a summation I found of her many accomplishments. Can she get a nobel prize now?
“Firstly, there is no government closer to the people than at the municipal level. Palin spent eight years in city government, winning a seat on the Wasilla City Council in 1992 mostly thanks to her opposition to tax increases. She went on to serve two council terms from 1992 to 1996. She was elected mayor of the fast-growing Anchorage suburb in 1996 and again in 1999. Mayor Palin had a record of reducing property tax levels, increasing municipal services and attracting new industry to her town. During her tenure in Wasilla, she was elected chair of Alaska’s conference of mayors.
Next for Sarah Palin was service as chair of the Alaska Conservation Committee, a board which regulates the state’s oil and gas industry. In this appointive position she began to gain what would become extensive and valuable knowledge and experience in the area of one of America’s most pressing issues – energy. It was in this job where Palin first really demonstrated the toughness, political courage and maverick spirit that would years later so impress presidential candidate John McCain.
She resigned in January 2004 as head of the Alaska Oil and Gas Conservation Commission after complaining to the office of Governor Frank Murkowski and to state Attorney General Gregg Renkes about ethical violations by another commissioner, Randy Ruedrich, who was also Republican state chairman.
State law barred Palin from speaking out publicly about ethical violations and corruption. However, she was vindicated later in 2004 when Ruedrich, who’d been reconfirmed as state chairman, agreed to pay a $12,000 fine for breaking state ethics laws. She became a hero in the eyes of the public and the press, and the bane of Republican leaders.
In 2005, she continued to take on the Republican establishment by joining Eric Croft, a Democrat, in lodging an ethics complaint against Renkes, who was not only attorney general but also a long-time adviser and campaign manager for Murkowski. The governor reprimanded Renkes and said the case was closed. It wasn’t. Renkes resigned a few weeks later, and Palin was again hailed as a hero.
In 2006, Palin ran for governor and was elected in a landslide. According to Fred Barnes: With her emphasis on ethics and openness in government, “it turned out Palin caught the temper of the times perfectly,” wrote Tom Kizzia of the Anchorage Daily News. She was also lucky. News broke of an FBI investigation of corruption by legislators between the primary and general elections. So far, three legislators have been indicted.
In the roughly three years since she quit as the state’s chief regulator of the oil industry, Palin has crushed the Republican hierarchy (virtually all male) and nearly every other foe or critic. Political analysts in Alaska refer to the “body count” of Palin’s rivals.
“The landscape is littered with the bodies of those who crossed Sarah,” says pollster Dave Dittman, who worked for her gubernatorial campaign. It includes Ruedrich, Renkes, Murkowski, gubernatorial contenders John Binkley and Andrew Halcro, the three big oil companies in Alaska, and a section of the Daily News called “Voice of the Times,” which was highly critical of Palin and is now defunct.
As governor, Sarah Palin’s list of accomplishments lengthened rapidly. She used her line-item veto to cut $268 million from Alaska’s state budget.
She stood up to some of Alaska’s most entrenched interests, including three big oil companies (BP, ConocoPhilips, and ExxonMobil) who hold the lease rights to much of Alaska’s oil and gas wealth:
Once in office, Palin took an aggressive stance toward the oil companies. Her nickname from high-school basketball, “Sarah Barracuda,” was resurrected in the press. Early in her term, she shocked oil lobbyists when she was so bold as to not show up when Exxon CEO Rex Tillerson came to Juneau to meet with her. Palin, after scrapping Murkowski’s deal, would not give Big Oil the terms they wanted, yet insisted that the companies still had an obligation under their lease to deliver gas to whatever pipeline Alaska built. She invited the oil companies to place open bids to build a pipeline, but they refused. A bid by TransCanada, North America’s largest pipeline builder, was approved by the legislature in August.
Palin also raised taxes on oil companies after Murkowski’s previous tax regime produced falling revenues in 2007, despite skyrocketing oil prices. Alaska now has some of the highest resource taxes in the world. Alaska’s oil tax revenues are expected to be about $10 billion in 2008, twice those of previous year. BP says about half its oil revenues now go to taxes, when royalty payments to the state are included. Recently, Palin approved gas tax relief for Alaskans, and paid every resident $1,200 to help ease their fuel-price burden.
Some other Palin accomplishments include supporting and signing an ethics bill passed by the Alaska legislature and creating the Alaska Health Strategies Planning Council to find innovative solutions to effectively provide access to, and help reduce the costs of, healthcare.
As governor, Palin is commander of her state’s National Guard. Not content to merely sit on the title, she traveled to Kuwait to learn about her troops’ mission there. On the return trip to Alaska, she stopped in Germany to visit wounded soldiers in the hospital, an activity that Barack Obama did not see fit to engage in during his own overseas venture, blaming the Pentagon for his snubbing of the wounded.
More accomplishments: Gov. Palin signed a resolution in opposition to the FAA’s plan to increase taxes on aviation fuel, impose user fees and slash airport funding. Also, before Palin became governor, her predecessor Frank Murkowski had purchased a Westwind Two business jet for the governor’s use at a $2.5 million price tag, despite the objections from the state legislature and the public. Her first order of business after taking office was to put the jet up for sale.
Palin did keep the governor’s state-owned Chevy Suburban, but she got rid of the driver, saying it was wasteful for the state to pay someone to drive her around, since she was perfectly capable of driving herself. The governor’s gourmet chef also got changed from a full-time to a seasonal-only basis because Palin considered it a luxury she didn’t think Alaskans should be paying for. Her political enemies called all this “superficial pandering.”
Alaska is the only one of America’s states which borders on two foreign countries. Sarah Palin is chief executive of our most important energy state, one which lies only a few miles from Russian territory. She has negotiated sensitive agreements on fishing rights and other matters to keep the peace up there. She’s also worked on important trade deals with other countries. She has received foreign heads of state and had discussions with them.”
And you’re right, I don’t agree with Marie. I think Sarah would make a great president. If those we are at war with hate women, let us be women. If they kill in the name of god, let us represent secular reason. If they hate freedom, let us be free.

And don’t forget Thursday the 5th–Congressional House Call day. Does anyone know if Chris Christie is pro life? I know McDonnel and Hoffman are, did not think Christie was but could be wrong.
I think Virginia and NY are going to be won by conservatives, hard to say about NJ from what I have heard. Corzine has spent something like 25 million of his own personal fortune. The NJ economy is a disaster and they have one of the highest unemployment rates in the country. This race shouldnt even be close really.

About the Nobel Prize. As we have seen with Obama, it is now awarded only for “good intentions” and “vision”,(according to an Obama lapdog “reporter”) and not for true accomplishments.
And the lack of respect for small towns and the people within them is going to be the downfall of the Democrat party. Thanks for illustrating the disrespect so inherent in the party of the over-educated intellectual elite. Too bad the world is based on common sense rather than idealistic intellectualism. That’s what Mrs. Palin deals in, and why she is so successful. Until Chris Christie ran for Governor in the NJ Primary, he was either MIA in the support of life, ambiguous about his position, or campaigned in prior elections as “pro-choice.” He stated he became pro-life when he saw one of his children’s ultrasound images 14-15 years ago, but a year later it was reported in a Bergen Record article that he called himself pro-choice again. He supported Roe v. Wade as the law of the land and claimed he would enforce it as governor. Here’s another incident:

Despite Chris Christie’s successful wooing of some key members of the NJ pro-life community, and his effective advertising that stated without explanation, “I am pro-life,” when in effect he certainly has exclusions for rape, incest, and life of mother, Christie chose a “PRO-ABORTION” Lt. Governor, Kim Guadagno, to run with him. Christie didn’t have to do that. There were other viable choices including an attractive, likable female who is 100% pro-life, a fiscal conservative, and an elected official. Further, he exhibited tremendous disrespect for Sarah Palin when Michael Steele suggested her coming to NJ and Christie retorted with thanks but no thanks type of reply to that offer instead choosing to campaign with Rudy Giuliani.
Like Christine Todd Whitman, who won by only 26,000 votes with the active support of several pro-life state legislators and one pro-life group, Chris Christie’s campaign is right out of the Whitman playbook.
The questions are: Will Chris Christie, like former NJ Governor Christine Todd Whitman, also bite the hand that feeds his victory? Will he appoint or give tenure to any left wing activist State Supreme Court as did Whitman with her buddy, Supreme Court Chief Justice Deborah Poritz? When Chris Christie voluntarily and unnecessarily chose his Pro-Death Lt. Governor, who could then run for Governor herself in the future, Christie’s action did not evidence a responsible pro-life position no matter his words.
Nevertheless, I believe Christie will win. Getting rid of Jon Corzine (like Florio Free in ’93) is imperative to the taxpayers of New Jersey and Christie’s words have promised “change.”
No matter our earthly kings, we must pray for them all. God’s plans are impeccable.

Thanks Mary and Carolee, I suspected Christie wasn’t strongly pro life and guess I was right. It may be part of the reason why he isn’t leading Corzine by a huge margin.
As has been seen before, when the GOP has candidates that aren’t strongly conservatives they have trouble getting their base, however, if I lived in NJ I would vote for Christie but have to hold my nose to do it.
With the economy of NJ being in shambles this should be a landslide for Christie, however NJ is one of the most democratic states.
Also regarding Sarah Palin….. I heard that the McDonnell campaign didn’t want her either.
After she endorsed Doug Hoffman he raised over $100,000 online within 24 hours. I think it was about $124K. And if he wins, she deserve quite a bit of the credit. After she endorsed many other Republicans did the same, such as Pawlenty, Santorum, etc.
Hopefully she will endorse Marco Rubio and Chuck Devore soon, as well as other great conservatives who are running in 2010.
So why is anyone shocked that Scozzafava, a Republican in name only, would support Owens?
Electing Scozzafava would have only put a Democrat with and “R” after her name in office.
If Scozzafava’s stand on the issues was so popular why was she and not Hoffman forced to drop out??
Look at it this way. If Scozzafava or Owens had won, it was a no win either way for our side.
With Hoffman we at least have a fighting chance.
Good riddance, Scozzafava. If/when you leave, don’t forget to take Olympia Snowe with you. The entirety of the Republican party needs a good house cleaning, and I think this is a wonderful start.

For those Christian prolifers like myself we should bind together our prayers concerning these elections that those who are for saving the lives of innocent, unborn babies will be elected into office because we can see the results of what having a pro-death president has done in the 10 months Obama has been in office. He has worked to dismantle every law protecting innocent life, morality and liberty (he has even come after those who disagree with him with vengence). I believe if we bind together in prayer and some of us even fast as we pray using spirtual warfare we can see God work to turn the tide of our nation.
