Celine Dion on foster children awareness, adoption, and motherhood
As a mom, it wasn’t hard to say yes. I couldn’t refuse. If we can help to try to make people more aware, try to help. Can’t believe that some children are asking for parents for the holidays. This is like, not normal. And there’s so many foster care children.
~ Singer Celine Dion, explaining her reasons for hosting the CBS special, “A Home for the Holidays,” in which she raises awareness for foster children, as quoted by Extra TV, December 18
I like this and I like her. What more can I say?? I find it sad that children are without permanent placement in this world especially with the wonderful parents I had. I also find it sad that we even say a child is unwanted.

Wish more celebs with $$ and fame would promote adoption instead of abortion. Actually it would be nice to see more famous people adopt. Went to Walmart the other day and studied the tabloids. Doesnt look like Jennifer Aniston is going to marry this Justin guy yet again. But it says she would like to be a mom. Okay heres the deal….$ doesnt buy happiness. It can provide comfort. Adopting a child IMO if youre Jennifer A. with her $ sounds like a great idea to me. Many famous people do it and you get unconditional love back. Its not as if any adopted child of a celeb. would go without. Isnt that one of the main reasons people abort? $$$ problems. You cant take it with you so why not share your $ and love with a child?

Don’t forget, Heather, that there are many wonderful foster parents. But I agree, children deserve permanent homes.

It is a really wonderful thing to see celebrities promoting adoption. Is she the only host of the program or are other celebrities supporting it along with her? I’d like to know who else is using their fame and influence for something positive.

It’s a wonderful project, of course there are so many children who need a permanent home. However, from a pro-life perspective it feels a little bit inconsistent. First, she had trouble conceiving, but didn’t foster/adopt, she went through 6 IVF treatments, so there’s no telling how many of her children were destroyed in the process, and now she’s promoting fostering or adoption… Is that in the liberal world should mean “let’s take care of the ones we didn’t get a chance to get rid of before birth?” I wonder if she will also adopt after the project, now that would be great!

Awesome. :) I just love it when we see a celebrity supporting something that isn’t awful.

But why are there so many children without permanent homes?? Because people like you on this website restrict abortion. Kudos to Celine for trying to help those who need homes. Her next cause should be access for women to easily obtain abortions when they can’t raise children to prevent this situation in the first place.

Jake..ever hear of such a thing as personal responsility? Its easy. Dont want kids? Use a condom. Theyve worked for me over the years. Abortion is not your answer. And seriously Jake Im 99% sure youre a post abortive woman. You can also earn some self respect and say no to sex.

Nia Vardalos (writer and star of My Big Fat Greek Wedding) promotes adoption. She and her husband also adopted a daughter from foster care.

Jake,
It doesn’t necessarily have to do with abortion restrictions. Many older children are in the foster care system because they were removed from situations of abuse & neglect (whether the child was a planned or unplanned pregnancy, it is the fault of the parents/guardian/abuser not the child) and some are not immediately available for adoption until the parental rights are terminated. Beyond rhetoric, how do you propose addressing the issue of abused & neglected children & the number of children in foster care?

Sorry JDC, I know you’ve said not to feed the trolls, but I like to challenge these individuals critical thinking skills and beliefs and to see where they’re coming from.

Vita,
A person may make one choice when they’re at one point–like IVF, but later make better choices, like adoption and/or foster care.
Look at the people on here who have regretted their abortions and are now pro-life. If we can’t forgive past mistakes, what’s the point in working for a better tomorrow?
Maybe it feels inconsistent, but how do we know for sure that Celine’s intentions aren’t pure? Only God can judge a heart/soul. We can only go by actions. Maybe past actions say one thing, but what if a person turns over a new leaf, like people who leave the abortion industry to help the pro-life movement–that’s inconsistent with their past (promoting abortion and working in the abortion industry), but maybe their present and future is different (being pro-life, and NOT working in the abortion industry).
There’s a priest my family has known for a number of years and he says “Presume good will.” Given we don’t know anything else, let’s just presume that Celine Dion has good will in her heart, mind, and soul with this and be glad she is encouraging adoption and foster care.
Sometimes it’s the small victories that lead to bigger ones–and let’s keep hoping and praying for small victories to lead to big victories for life and love.

In the three years or so I have commented here, Jake’s been the worst among the trolls. But maybe he can do better. Merry Christmas Jake, have a nice time with your family.
And I like Jolie too, Thomas.

Lol, well I’m single, so I can say without worrying about making a wife angry that Jolie and Aniston are some of the most beautiful women on the planet.

True beauty lies within. Did I just write this? Scratch that - I see the no make-up look and Angelina wins hands down. :D
About my wife – she is not insecure at all and she reads what I post anyway..

All I can say is that Brad Pitt is a lucky guy and seems to have a wonderful loving family. Quite jealous of him, lol. ;)
