Stanek weekend question: Would you take Tucker Max’s $500,000?

I reported earlier this week that Planned Parenthood had rejected a $500,000 donation from bestselling author Tucker Max because his writings are misogynistic toward women.

The plan was for Planned Parenthood to name one of its clinics after Max. But according to his publicist in a Forbes piece, Planned Parenthood became concerned about the “perception” of Max’s writing, which could be “perceived in a certain negative manner,” rendering his donation inappropriate, “given Planned Parenthood’s mission.”

Stanek late weekend question 4-1-12: Is turnabout fair play?

Unfortunately, my traditional Saturday morning posting of the weekend question got derailed by hackers, so here is my late weekend entry.

I wrote March 30 about a flier being distributed in the neighborhood of Germantown, Maryland, late-term abortion clinic owner Todd Stave, pictured right, which depicts him as equivalent to a Nazi. The fliers included Stave’s home phone number.

Now Stave is “turning the tables,” according to a supportive Washington Post columnist:

Stanek weekend question: Do you think Obamacare will survive?

On Monday the U.S. Supreme Court will begin hearing an unprecedented three days of oral arguments in a lawsuit brought forth by 26 states, the National Federation of Independent Businesses, and four small businesses challenging the constitutionality of the two-yr-old Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act.

The lawsuit alleges that forcing individuals to buy health insurance and forcing states to expand Medicaid benefits are both unconstitutional.

Meanwhile, Obamacare isn’t faring well politically. Politico posted a must read article yesterday, “5 things Dems got wrong on health care,” vindicating conservative opposition to Obamacare:

Stanek weekend question: What do you think of the Doonesbury “ultrasound is rape” series?

This was the week that wasn’t for the Doonesbury “ultrasound = rape” cartoon series in about 70 newspapers across the country. Several other newspapers only ran portions of the series, appearing to have to the most trouble with Thursday’s strip. Now that the dust has settled, what do you think about Gary Trudeau’s political commentary […]

Stanek weekend question: How do we persuade pro-choicers?

It’s a decades-old question. How do we persuade abortion proponents?

Pro-choicer Julie was converted by the aborted babies themselves. I was just forwarded a video of Julie’s touching testimony, posted on YouTube March 1 by the Genocide Awareness Project. GAP came to the University of North Florida in 2009 and just made a return appearance, which was when Julie approached the team…

Stanek weekend question: How often do you think about abortion?

I’m in Florida on vacation this week, but even while getting a little R&R there seems to always be something that triggers thoughts of abortion. For instance, we were visiting the Flagler Museum in Key West a couple days ago, and when I read that the first passenger train arrived there on January 22, 1912, […]

Stanek weekend question II: Do you know if your ob/gyn is pro-life?

Do you know if your ob/gyn is pro-life? Does it matter? Reader Dawn suggested this weekend question, writing: Why would a woman take her prenatal care needs to an abortionist? We need to identify every single OB/GYN who either performs abortions or refers for abortions, to warn happily pregnant women about them.  Would a doctor […]

Stanek weekend question I: What would you tell your 15-year-old self today?

Planned Parenthood FAQ asked an interesting question on Twitter this week: What would you go back and tell your 15- year-old self today? Some of the responses were:   Make mistakes to know who you are. Also, self, seriously, learn the term ‘heteronormative’ now, so you can argue it later! Boys are wrong. You’re not […]
