Pro-life vid of day: Teacher sentenced for student “sex talks”

by Hans Johnson

Charles Reilly, a former art teacher, sports coach, and borough councilman, was sentenced to a total of 15 years in prison for inappropriate talks with 17 male Pine Hill Middle School students – even asking them to bring in semen-stained tissues for an “art project.”  He had pleaded guilty to charges including official misconduct and child endangerment.

Parents in the suburb of Camden, New Jersey, reacted at the time of the indictments here on Fox29 in Philadelphia:

Pro-choice porn prof pleads “no contest” to charges of grand theft, battery, vandalism

Mireille Miller-Young abortion proponent stole pro-life signsAm following up on the March 4 incident when abortion zealot Mireille Miller-Young, a professor of porn studies at University of California, Santa Barbara, went berserk when coming upon a pro-life display of abortion victims.

Miller-Young and a couple of her students stole a sign belonging to 16-year-old Thrin Short. Short’s sister Joan videotaped the incident as well as Miller-Young assaulting Thrin when she tried to retrieve her sign.

As God would have it, Thrin and Joan’s mother is Katie Short, legal director for the Life Legal Defense Foundation, which I’m sure made Miller-Young say, “Oh, shoot,” or something thereabouts, when she learned of the connection.

Miller-Young was charged with battery, grand theft, and vandalism, which she at first denied. But when her day in court came last week, she thought better of leaving her fate to a jury and pleaded no contest, which translates, according to Fox News:

The charges reportedly carry the possibility of jail time, but sources close to the matter say Miller-Young is likely to be ordered to pay a fine, perform community and undergo counseling when she’s sentenced on Aug. 14.

More on the incident from Fox:

“Before she grabbed the sign, she was mocking me and talking over me in front of the students, saying that she was twice as old as me and had three degrees, so they should listen to her and not me,” Thrin Short told FoxNews.com in March. “Then she started the chant with the students about ‘tear down the sign.’ When that died out, she grabbed the sign.”

With a graphic anti-abortion sign in hand, Miller-Young — whose faculty web page says she specializes in black cultural studies and pornography — then allegedly walked through two campus buildings as Short, her sister and two UCSB students followed….

Miller-Young then allegedly pushed Short at least three times as she tried to stop an elevator door from closing as the educator stood inside with her sign, Short said.

Miller-Young later claimed she had a “moral right” to act in the manner she did, according to a report filed by campus police.

At least for the purposes of attempting to kill the controversy, Miller-Young has apparently decided her claim of a “moral right” to censor signs showing the slaughter of little children, which she supports, may be weak.

PhD explains why she doesn’t use contraception

birth-control-pills-3by Carder

Imagine how pious I felt when the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services demanded that employers pay for employees’ contraception, and the media clued me in to the fact that I was part of an elite squad. The 2 percent. The Catholic Mom Marine Corps. The Barefoot and Pregnant Dream Team.

Now that everyone is talking about contraceptives, I get lots of chances to out myself as a Catholic freak. Many people are quite amazed to meet a pants-wearing, educated woman who actually favors the contraceptive-free life. I get lots of amusing questions.

And it’s National NFP Awareness Week, so an opportune time to talk about chemical-free contraception.

Stanek Sunday Word: “Desire God’s pure word as newborn babies desire milk”

milkYou have been born again, not from a seed that can be destroyed, but through God’s everlasting word that can’t be destroyed. That’s why Scripture says, “All people are like grass, and all their beauty is like a flower of the field. The grass dries up and the flower drops off, but the word of the Lord lasts forever.” This word is the Good News that was told to you.

So get rid of every kind of evil, every kind of deception, hypocrisy, jealousy, and every kind of slander. Desire God’s pure word as newborn babies desire milk. Then you will grow in your salvation. Certainly you have tasted that the Lord is good!

Pro-life photo of the week: Abortion clinic bricks

Today’s photo of the week is by… me!

I snapped the shot on a whim as I was reading one night last week and was a bit surprised at the interest it garnered on Twitter and Facebook after I posted it on Instagram.

The photo is a side shot my nightstand, on which I have three bricks from three different closed abortion clinics that I use as a pen holder.

The bricks serve as an encouragement as to what we have accomplished, but they also hurt my soul to its core when I meditate on what went on inside the walls they held together.

Help JillStanek.com reach fundraising goal!

2014-07-20_0905This week, due in part to connections I’ve been able to establish across the pro-life spectrum, I was able to:

Each of these stories took several hours to several days to investigate and pull together. I was only enabled to do this thanks to the generosity of pro-lifers who freed my time to focus on pro-life journalism.

10527780_820645397945539_7212393107575863438_nDue to amazing supporters we have reached 40% of our $10,000 goal, which would carry our budget through the first two months of 2015.

Please consider donating this weekend and help maintain JLS.com’s online presence. There is one pencil drawing by the talented Bethany Kerr still available to the next $150+ giver!

There are two giving options – one time donations and/or monthly giving. Donating even $5 a month would be helpful. Thank you in advance, and thanks to all who have contributed!

Stanek weekend question: Is the abortion battle becoming increasingly “corrosive”?

Pro-choice professor Mireille Miller-Young steals pro-life signs showing victims of abortionI have sensed for some time that abortion proponents are becoming increasingly and overtly hostile to pro-life activism.

An immediate example is UCSB Professor Mireille Miller-Young, photo right, who this week pleaded “no contest” to charges that she assaulted a pro-life teenager and stole her sign.

Within the span of days, pro-life activists at Created Equal recently had to endure one abortion proponent’s vulgarity and vandalism and another’s theft (the latter right under the noses of complicit police).

Any pro-life college activist knows that a lack of hostile response to campus displays would be outside the norm these days.

At the same time, particularly following the Supreme Court’s buffer zone decision, pro-life activists seem energized, as evidenced, I think, by events the past few days in New Orleans.

A Canadian journalist this week noted, “In the U.S., the corrosive warfare is increasing.”

Do you agree? If so, why do you think this is? Also, be sure to take the poll…
