Don’t water down the March for Life

I spotted the above graphic on the Holy Angels Youth Group website (out of Chagrin Falls, Ohio).

Although the graphic was certainly well-intended, it bothered me.

The annual March for Life is scheduled on or near January 22, the anniversary of the infamous U.S. Supreme Court’s Roe v. Wade decision that legalized abortion throughout all of America in 1973.

Although the M4L website states it is “the collective effort of grassroots prolife Americans to assure that our state and federal laws shall protect the right to life of each human in existence at fertilization,” I think clearly the March is by-and-large a huge demonstration taking a stand against abortion.

Particularly for the above graphic to state the March is to make a statement “against the death penalty,” and to even list it first – before abortion – offends me.

Pro-life summit: Where are we?

As I indicated yesterday, I attended a summit meeting of pro-life activists and apologists in Columbus, Ohio, on Monday and Tuesday, spearheaded by Mark Harrington of Created Equal.

The summit was to assess where the movement is at in light of the reelection of Barack Obama, also bearing in mind the fact we’re nearing the 40 year mark of legalized abortion in the U.S.

Heads of various groups from around the country and Canada gave their analyses, many via Skype, and also provided a snapshot of their plans for 2013.

I was looking forward to this summit, because in my opinion the paradigm shifted with the reelection of Barack Obama, and I was fumbling with how as a pro-lifer to respond.

Church ignores little girl hit by truck

I’m attending a two-day summit in Columbus, Ohio, involving leaders of pro-life activist groups, spearheaded by Mark Harrington of Created Equal, an organization of which I’m a board member. I’ll discuss more on that in another post.

But Don Cooper of World Life Organization (another group I’m on the board of), made a stirring point I’d like to pass along to you to get the conversation started as to the state of the pro-life movement as we approach the 40 year mark of legalized abortion in the U.S.

Don showed a video you may have seen, of several passersby ignoring for several minutes a toddler who was struck by not one but two trucks on a street in China last October. A total of 18 people ignored the crushed child until a street scavenger finally pulled her off the street. She went on to die….

Ohio Heartbeat Bill gets CPR

Huffington Post is reporting today that two Ohio pro-life groups that have been bitterly divided about a pro-life bill may be working together on a compromise.

This is fabulous news, if true, and it appears it is.

I called Janet Porter, who leads Faith2Action, the group behind what is known as the “Heartbeat Bill,” legislation that would protect Ohio babies from abortion after a heartbeat can be detected – as early as six weeks of pregnancy.

I asked Janet whether it was true she is now working with Ohio Right to Life on a compromise bill.

“We’re talking to everybody who will protect babies with beating hearts,” she responded. “There is talk of a compromise bill, but nothing is final yet.”

To me, that was a yes. A blurb on the F2A’s website, right, also indicates something is in the air.

Expect more news next week. Here’s the germane excerpt from HuffPo:

Pro-life activists keep abortion front and center to the end

Created Equal’s pro-life activists showed the reality of abortion outside President Obama’s campaign rally in Columbus, Ohio, yesterday. “All the security lines converged on our position in front of the arena,” wrote Executive Director Mark Harrington in an email. A captive audience. I love this photo (click all photos to enlarge). …

Today, Created Equal showcased pro-life signs on an overpass over the busiest freeway in Central Ohio during morning rush hour….

Election Eve: Obama stadium half-empty; deputy manager, “Don’t panic”

Via Breitbart.com, November 5:

Pro-life activist occupies Ohio early voting center

Pro-life activist Richard Justman became more and more disturbed to see only Democrats show up in force after a Columbus, Ohio, Early Voting Center opened for business near his home on October 2.

Finally, at 1 a.m. on Monday, October 22, Justman, unable to sleep, decided to do something about it, he says prompted by the Holy Spirit.

Justman awakened his son and the two drove Justman’s box truck and van and parked them right on the 100-ft yellow line marking the legal distance partisans could appeal to incoming voters, directly in front of the building.
