Sunday Word: “The rider’s name was Death. Hell followed him.”

blake_death_largeI looked, and there was a pale horse, and its rider’s name was Death. Hell followed him.

~ Revelation 6:8, God’s Word translation

There is no such thing as soul annihilation. We are going one place or the other, and we will be wide awake.

~ Beth Moore, speaking about this passage in  “Here and Now… There and then: A Lecture Series on Revelation”

Stanek weekend question: When does “anti-choice bullying” cross the line, if ever?

UGAabortion030714

Let’s start this conversation by taking violence off the table. Both pro-lifers and abortion supporters agree that violence emanating from either side is wrong and committed by outliers.

Beyond that, where, if ever, can pro-lifers cross the line? The U.S. Supreme Court is currently considering the constitutionality of a Massachusetts buffer zone law, the decision of which will have implications across the country. Can a state or municipality erect an unseen red line of whatever distance it decides to keep pro-lifers from reaching out to mothers going into abortion clinics to kill their babies? The other side, of course, calls this harassment.

A couple days ago pro-choicer Robin Marty (by now a friend, in actuality) took me on for outing Minnesota businesses that are supporting an abortion fundraiser:

https://twitter.com/robinmarty/status/444227612659838976

Was I really “bullying”?

On March 10 the Manassas, Virginia, City Council defeated a measure that would have enhanced abortion clinic regulations in that city. One abortion proponent wrote an astute tweet:

https://twitter.com/ClinicEscort/status/443189999417450497

ClinicEscort was right. Pro-lifers become a self-fulfilling prophecy by protesting at abortion clinics, often distressing the community around it.

And what of it? Abortion is legalized murder. Abortion clinics are the equivalent of modern-day gas chambers.

A Christian, no less, recently called pro-life protests using photos of abortion victims at a high school “bullying.” Likewise, an abortion advocate called a similar pro-life display at a university “hate speech.”

But my friend Leslie often says, “No child killing with tranquility.” And I agree. I’m all for whatever peaceful means are necessary to stop abortion.

To reiterate that last point, I think we must create our social justice disturbances peacefully, as Martin Luther King, Jr., advocated, and void of personal animosity or physical/verbal retaliation.

But we must indeed create disturbances against abortion, the greatest evil of our time, perhaps of all of human history.

But perhaps I’m an extremist. What are your thoughts?

Pro-life blog buzz 3-14-14

  • Right to Life of Michigan is proud to bring transparency and peace of mind  despite the histrionics from Rachel Maddow  who claimed that beginning today the women of Michigan will have to purchase rape insurance (abortion insurance) to provide for their abortions:

So what will happen when the Abortion Insurance Opt-Out law takes effect on March 14? The sun will rise and Michigan will join 23 other states that have opted out of abortion being a standard part in health care policies offered through the national health care exchanges. Michigan will also join nine other states that have opted out of abortion as a standard part of private health care plans.

  • Stand for Life does not intend to give up after the defeat of a 20-week abortion ban in Albuquerque, New Mexico, last November:

What is the answer to light a fire under the citizens of Albuquerque?  Protest ABQ is one. This new movement spearheaded by Father Stephen Imbarrato is to protest not only at abortion facilities but at businesses and residences that have close ties to them.  Abortion victim photography, or graphic images as some may call them, are a huge part of the protest, along with other pro-life text signs. Names of businesses affiliated with the abortion industry in Albuquerque are also highlighted in signs and literature.

  • Pro-Life Action League reminds us that Good Friday is the day for the Way of the Cross. PLAL has all the tools you need to bring this event to your city.
  • We hear  people say it was a “therapeutic” abortion, as if  that word makes it okay. Now Wesley J. Smith opines on the issue of “rational” suicide.  So if the psychiatrist has determined you are not mentally ill and can make rational decisions, go for it:

Psychiatrists are sometimes the last bastion of protection for despairing self-destructive people. To succeed, the life-saving mission must be unequivocal. But rational suicide proponents believe that when the doctor agrees that the desire to die is “rational,” it should be “permitted.” Imagine being told by your doctor that self-killing makes sense.

  • Pro Life in TN is proud that Tennessee Congresswomen Diane Black (right, top) and Marsha Blackburn (right, bottom) received special recognition from Susan B. Anthony List for their pro life legislation.
  • Pro Woman Pro Life lists a link to songs about abortion, some of which carry a subtle theme that need an explanation.
  • Amanda Marcotte may have gushed over the opening in Buffalo of a birth/abortion combo. calling it the “nation’s first.” But  Real Choice takes exception, reminding us of previous combos and their not so stellar track record:

But the abortion/birthing combo in Buffalo is not breaking new ground. Others have dug that grave before, and buried many a child along with some mothers.

  • Secular Pro Life points to a recent poll indicating that only 36% of Millennials would describe themselves as religious as the reason why SPL is well situated to appeal to the this  generation:

Because if you aren’t a “religious person,” prayer vigils, sermons, and sayings like, “Let God Plan Parenthood” are not going to get you involved in the pro-life movement. And heaven forbid (ha!) that you take such an approach with an average young Christian woman who is pregnant, terrified, and considering what looks like an “easy way out.” About 65% of abortions in the U.S. are performed on Christian mothers, according to the pro-abortion Guttmacher Institute.

Pro-life vid of day: MSNBC meets “rebels of anti-abortion movement”

2014-03-14_1229by Laura Loo

Last week MSNBC reporter Irin Carmon paid a visit on behalf of the Melissa Harris-Perry show to “the rebels of the anti-abortion movement,” Abolish Human Abortion, members of which were protesting outside a high school in Norman, Oklahoma.

Carmon reported in a written piece:

AHA activists disdain the phrase “pro-life” altogether. They prefer “abolitionists,” with all slavery comparisons explicitly intended, and they want to push the larger movement to abide by their uncompromising positions. That means moving away from the incremental strategy – 20 week bans, admitting privileges laws for clinics – and sticking to banning all abortion without exceptions, equating hormonal birth control (even the daily pill kind) with abortion, and advocating that women who have abortions be tried as murderers. That sort of unblinking absolutism in the face of the messiness of real life decision-making may be what has drawn nearly 34,000 people to like their Facebook page.

In February, Abolish Human Abortion decided it wasn’t enough to confront people outside abortion clinics. They have been taking their struggle to what they called “the front lines” – high schools, with arresting, graphic novel-style materials to go with them. Across the country, at dozens of high schools, self-styled abolitionists are stopping teenagers in front of their schools….

They don’t care who they offend. They aren’t interested in a political or legal strategy; they reserve their deepest scorn for the incrementalists who have crafted a step-by-step plan to overturn Roe v. Wade. As far as AHA is concerned, those guys are sellouts. But in the end, there isn’t so much that the mainstream movement and Abolish Human Abortion disagree on besides tactics.

Supermodel wants children whether or not she’s married

National TV Awards Press RoomI do want to have children, whether I have a man or not…. I will have it on my own.

~ Supermodel Naomi Campbell, insisting that fatherhood is optional for her future children, E! Online, March 12. More backstory from E!:

In September 2008, during a London Fashion Week fund-raiser for the White Ribbon Alliance, the 43-year-old revealed she was previously infertile.

“They thought it was a cyst,” Campbell said of undergoing surgery six months earlier in Brazil, per Britain’s Press Association. “When they opened it up they realized it was more.” The Face mentor said, “I was not able to have children up until March. Now it’s in God’s hands. I would love to have a family.”

Abortion fundraiser lists sponsors without their knowledge

UPDATE 3/21, 5p: Although Pro-Choice Resources claims it met its goal, doing so was done with eight fewer sponsors than it started with.
bowlathonheader

UPDATE 3/13, 6:20p: Awesome! Another supposed backer of this abortion bowl-a-thon has responded that he had no knowledge and wants out. I wonder how many ever really knew?

2014-03-13_1817

3/13, 5:16p: The 21 annual Pro-Choice Resources Bowl-A-Thon is undergoing scrutiny as never before, and the findings are revealing – particularly to sponsors who never signed up to support this abortion group’s fundraiser.

Brian Gibson, Executive Director of Pro-Life Action Ministries in St. Paul, Minnesota, sent emails to all the businesses listed on the Bowl-A-Thon’s sponsors’ page that weren’t aligned with abortion (like NARAL Pro-Choice Minnesota and Medical Students for Choice) and heard back from five six (one more removed this afternoon) that they never gave Pro-Choice Resources permission to list them as sponsors.

“One went so far as to tell me the application filled out by PCR did not even include the name of the organization,” reported Gibson in an email alert. Shadiness, what a surprise.

Gibson reported to me that the names of all five have since been removed from PCR’s sponsors’ list. Here was one sample response:

2014-03-13_1503

Gibson told the businesses he would not publicize their names if they backed away from supporting PCR.

Phil Weber, owner of Park Tavern Bowling & Entertainment Center in St. Louis Park, Minnesota – a first time host of the bowl-a-thon – took the nefarious “It’s only business; wink, wink, I’m really with you” approach. Read his email and Gibson’s excellent response here.

Neverthless, at least Park Tavern’s name has been removed from PCR’s list of sponsors…

2014-03-13_1519

These six five (one removed after story posted) businesses refused Brian’s request to rescind sponsorship of PCR’s bowl-a-thon:

  • Brave New Workshop Comedy Theatre (2 show tickets)
  • Izzy’s Ice Cream (four ice cream cones)
  • Peace Coffee (coffee beans, brewed cups)
  • PedalPub (half-off tour)
  • Time Out Fitness, whose owner, Jeanne Marie Schmit, got a bit snarky in her correspondences with Gibson

666One of Pro-Choice Resources’ activities is to “provide[] no-interest loans, grants, and resources to teens and women who choose abortion but are unable to afford one.”

So sponsors and the bowling alley enabler are helping pay for abortions, some of them minors.

Gibson also notified Pabst Brewing Company that PCR is associating the Pabst brand with itself, and the company has responded that it is having its legal department investigate.

Pro-life vid of the day: Jill Stanek endorses Brady for IL governor

by Hans Johnson

Breaking with others in pro-life leadership, our own Jill Stanek has endorsed State Senator Bill Brady of Bloomington for governor of Illinois in the March 18th primary. She considers him the strongest pro-life candidate.

In 2010, he lost the general election by less than 1%.
