The one Super Bowl ad NARAL didn’t have an opinion on

54cec682e7bcf2ae15394ce6_super-bowl-nationwide-ad-dead-kidBeing from Chicago, I had no vested interest in last night’s Super Bowl, other than to care about the score at the end of each quarter in hopes my husband might win a chunk of his office pool (which he did!).

So I amused myself by watching the ads and reading Twitter critiques about them by the feminist pro-abortion crowd.

I thought the Nationwide ad was serious but worthwhile, although it was quickly and summarily excoriated by the rest of the world as possibly “the worst Super Bowl ad ever,” which ”sucked the mood out of the game and was generally crappy.”

I didn’t see the ad that way. I saw it as as an important reminder to parents, although I do see how families who have lost children in home accidents could have been traumatized.

Here’s the ad, in case you don’t know what I’m talking about….

Perhaps I wasn’t shocked because a dominant pro-life theme in our videos and films is children who never had a future because they were aborted.

In fact, abortion is the first thing I thought of when I saw the Nationwide ad. The word “abortion” could have easily been substituted in the ad’s climax line, “I couldn’t grow up, because I died from an accident,” without the rest of the ad needing any changes whatsoever.

And I’m pretty sure the pro-abortion crowd had the same thought. At least circumstantial evidence would indicate that. Because of all the ads NARAL and other abortion advocates I follow on Twitter had an opinion on, they didn’t have an opinion on that ad. My guess is they knew the ad hit too close to home, and they knew daring to comment on it would draw pro-life blowback.

NARAL’s plan for the big game night was indeed to critique ads…

So here a small sampling of ads NARAL didn’t like:

In all, NARAL tweeted on about 25 ads, some observations positive, to be fair, all centered on liberal feminist ideology.

NARAL may have had nothing to say about Nationwide’s accident ad. But we know it was paying attention, because it loved Nationwide’s other ad, tweeting twice about it…

Here was that ad, in case you’re interested…

http://youtu.be/Yrq8ruhmCX0

I have a sixth sense about these things. I see dead aborted people in a lot of life’s scenarios, such as the Nationwide accident ad.

I think NARAL and the abortion lobby do, too.

But in their case, the death of children is no accident.

Pro-life vid: Teen pumps breast milk for baby she placed for adoption

by Kelli

From the Alaska Dispatch News comes a story of selfless love. When 19-year-old Kaleena Pysher became pregnant her senior year of high school, she felt she could not parent her daughter and instead chose a family friend to adopt the baby. But her act of love went far beyond choosing the life she felt best for her daughter – Kaleena chose to continue pumping breast milk for her daughter every two hours.

All social issues are not equal

Catholic Social Teachingby Carder

The political left tried in vain to convince faithful Catholics that other issues rose to the level of abortion, same-sex “marriage” and the rest of the non-negotiables. We were told economic issues rose that high; the minimum wage, the social safety net, universal government health care and all the rest. They argued that the death penalty rose that high. They argued the GOP was not really concerned with abortion after all because decades had passed and the GOP had not overturned Roe v. Wade.

So, we were told to leave the GOP and join the Democrats even though they fight to the death any restrictions on abortion, never saw a gay “marriage” they didn’t love, fought tooth and nail for embryo-destructive research, are enthusiastic about euthanasia, but still want to raise the minimum wage….

Then came the Obama campaign and along with it huge money from George Soros and gay billionaires to create lefty Catholic groups that mirrored those on the right. Catholics in Alliance for the Common Good and Catholics United were two of them. Their purposes were to convince Catholics that doctrinal issues were really prudential and that prudential issues were really doctrinal. They strove to convince faithful Catholics that the GOP really didn’t care about the non-negotiables and that we were suckers for ever thinking they did….

Has the GOP overturned Roe v. Wade just yet? No. Does the GOP desert this issue on a fairly regular basis? Sure. Are there anti-lifers all over the GOP elite? You bet. Even so, the GOP remains the only viable political vessel for stopping what Pope St. John Paul the Great called the most important human rights issue of our time. He did not say that about torture, or the minimum wage, or universal government-run health care.

Sunday Word: “His faithfulness lasts throughout every generation”

psalms-100-5

Good indeed is the Lord,
His mercy endures forever,
His faithfulness lasts through every generation.

~ Psalm 100:5, New American Bible translation

Raoul Wallenberg and AHA

Wallenberg AHA beenieAHA opposes the Pain-Capable Unborn Child Protection Act (HR36).

And during this time, we’ve passed over 200 so-called “pro-life” laws, but they all discriminate in one way or the other, against our neighbors who are still in the womb. As Christians, we have absolutely no business abandoning any of our neighbors….

Take a comparison: During WWII, Raoul Wallenberg made heroic efforts to save as many Hungarian Jews as he could. And he succeeded in saving upwards of 100,000 Jews from the gas chambers.

But by AHA logic, Wallenberg had blood on his hands. His efforts were “discriminatory.” He only tried to save Hungarian Jews. And even then, he was only able to save a fraction of the Hungarian Jewish population.

By AHA logic, he “abandoned” other European Jews. By AHA logic, unless he had a strategy to save every European Jews, he ought to refrain from saving any European Jews. Let the Nazis kill them all.

By AHA logic, Wallenberg should have made hoodies, beenies, lapel pins, and T-shirts with inspirational slogans instead of issuing protective passes to Jews and creating safe houses for Jews.

Stanek weekend Q: Have aborted fetal cells in vaccines stopped you from immunizing your children?

child_vaccination

You may have heard of the measles outbreak. Reported the Associated Press on January 30:

More measles cases have been found in California, health officials said Friday.

Figures released by the California Department of Public Health showed there are now 91 confirmed cases in the state, up from 79 on Wednesday.

Of those, 58 infections have been linked to visits to Disneyland or contact with a sick person who went there.

Mexico and at least six other U.S. states - Utah, Washington, Colorado, Oregon, Nebraska and Arizona - also have recorded measles cases connected to Disneyland.

The outbreak, which originated at Disney theme parks last month, is spreading to the broader community.

ujiXcyyolQwMxLb-580x326-noPadBut does the blame for the measles outbreak actually rest with abortion?

Reported OC Weekly on January 30:

Forget illegals, anti-vaxxers or Jenny McCarthy: A Washington, D.C.-based right-to-life group is blaming abortion for the spread of measles across the country by people who were at the Disney Resort in Anaheim in mid-December.

Specifically, it’s the decision by pharmaceutical company Merck to make available an “ethical” vaccine for the measles, mumps and rubella (MMR) virus. Since 2008, Merck’s MMR II live virus vaccine has been in use - and since that time families opposed to abortion have declined MMR II vaccinations because it was “created from aborted fetal cell lines,” explains the American Life League.

ALL, which bills itself as the “oldest national Catholic pro-life education and advocacy organization in the United States,” has been calling on Merck to bring back the “ethical single-dose vaccine” for families who eschew MMR II on moral grounds.

“Merck is denying parents the choice of obtaining an ethical measles vaccine,” stated Judie Brown, the president and co-founder of ALL. “According to Children of God for Life, outbreaks of measles, such as at the California Disney parks, have been on the increase ever since Merck discontinued the ethical single-dose vaccine in 2008.”

Children of God for Life is a Largo, Florida-based campaign to outlaw the use of aborted fetuses in creating vaccinations. It has joined with American Life League to sponsor a change.org petition aimed at getting Merck to revive the single-dose versions of its vaccines.

“Ninety-nine percent of the parents I encounter just want the moral versions of measles and mumps vaccines,” claims Debi Vinnedge, president of Children of God for Life. “If Merck were to make the ethical single-dose vaccines available again, vaccine coverage would increase significantly.”

I confess I’m kind of glad I vaccinated my kids when I was naive. I now have two problems with vaccines, the aborted fetal cell component, and the chance that fetal cells in vaccines may cause autism. I’m relieved I don’t have to make the decision about this.

What about you? What are your thoughts?

What does China’s impending weapons dominance have to do with abortion?

File photo of soldiers from Chinese PLA Special Operations Forces marching in formation during training session on the outskirts of Beijing

From Investors Business Daily, January 29:

Arms Buildup: A senior weapons developer tells Congress that Beijing’s massive defense buildup, emphasizing precision-guided and other advanced weapons, has placed the U.S. and its shrinking military at serious risk.

‘I am very concerned about the increasing risk of loss of U.S. military technological superiority,” Frank Kendall, deputy undersecretary for acquisition, said Wednesday. “We’re at risk, and the situation is getting worse.” He was testifying before the House Armed Services Committee at a hearing on the subject of defense and technological change.

The Chinese were paying attention to U.S. military dominance in the early 1990s after we won the arms race and the Cold War, he said. And they watched and analyzed our ability to project overwhelming power in Desert Storm after Iraq invaded Kuwait. “No one observed more carefully the dominance we demonstrated in 1991 than the Chinese,” Kendall observed.

China quickly went to work on its own power projection capabilities and what is called asymmetrical warfare…. Kendall says he became “alarmed as soon as I started seeing technical intelligence reports on China’s modernization programs.

What does this have to do with abortion?

The launch of China’s infamous one-child policy in 1979 also launched a gender imbalance, with a preference for boys achieved mostly through abortion.

This has resulted in 34 million more males than females in China by 2011. Two charts from The Mirror, November 11, 2014, explain it all:

Gender-imbalance-at-birth-china

china's-gender-imbalance-problem

I’m certainly not the first to envision a doomsday scenario where a Chinese army of “choice” takes us over. From the Washington Post, 2006:

Foreign Policy magazine has come up with a new worry to chew your nails over – hordes of hormone-addled, sexually frustrated Asian men.

This nightmare scenario appears in an article with a wonderful title – “The Geopolitics of Sexual Frustration.” But the scary part starts in the subtitle: “Asia has too many boys. They can’t find wives, but they just might find extreme nationalism instead.”

The problem began 20 years ago, when ultrasound technology gave Asian women a cheap way to determine the sex of their unborn babies, writes Martin Walker, editor of United Press International. In China and other Asian nations, millions of women chose to abort female fetuses so they could instead give birth to boys. Consequently, those countries will soon have millions more men than women.

The result, says Walker, will be “mass sexual frustration.” By 2020, he writes, China alone could have “40 million frustrated bachelors.”…

Valerie Hudson, a Brigham Young University scholar… agrees: “In 2020, it may seem to China that it would be worth it to have a very bloody battle in which a lot of their young men could die in some glorious cause.”

2020 – that’s now five years away. The timing of China’s impending weapons dominance would appear… odd.

I have thought for some time abortion will play into the end times.

Happy Friday afternoon.
