Pro-life blog buzz 10-31-14

  • Down on the Pharm nominates NARAL Pro-Choice Colorado for the most ridiculous campaign ad this year (although it’s one of the dumbest I’ve ever heard). In their ad, they claim that if Republican Cory Gardner is elected, there will be a condom shortage. You have to hear it to believe it.
  • At Priests for Life, Fr. Frank Pavone reflects on voting as a moral obligation, stating that “the obligation to advance the culture of life by one’s vote springs from one’s obligation to the good of the nation, and to the well-being of all the other citizens who live in it.”

  • Minnesota Citizens Concerned for Life points out how pro-abortion the Dayton-Smith gubernatorial ticket really is (graphic shown left; click to enlarge). One is completely against pregnancy resource centers and the other was the VP of the state’s largest abortion center. Elections matter.
  • Big Blue Wave notes that a bill attempting to ban sex-selective abortion will be introduced in the UK Parliament on November 4. This comes on the heels of a study which shows that the law against sex-selective abortion in India has indeed improved female-to-male sex ratios.
  • Bound4Life shares an interview with Dr. Brent Boles, an OB-GYN and spokesman for Yes on 1 in Tennessee. Some comments from Dr. Boles:

Even nail salons have to be inspected to meet health standards. A woman who goes and gets a manicure in Tennessee is going to a facility that does more to answer to the state Department of Health than abortion clinics do….

The science on this issue is crystal clear. From the moment of conception, that pre-born person is a unique individual with unique DNA, that never existed before and will never exist again. Barring accidents of nature or illness or the intervention of man, a baby will be born.

Humanity is there from the beginning. A person’s size, level of development or abilities are not what gives them worth. It’s not like you’re another species until the moment you’re born, take your first breath and cry for the first time. You are human from the moment of conception.

  • Abstinence Clearinghouse praises Duck Dynasty’s Sadie Robertson for her consistent decision to remain modest while performing on ABC’s Dancing With the Stars.
  • Expose Abortion gives insight into the mentality of those who work in the abortion industry. Quotes former abortion provider Kathy Sparks:

There are two sets of people in these abortion clinics, the ones who have been there for a long time — they’ve just become hardened — and the other set who… stay for three or four months, and they can’t take it anymore and they have to get away.

  • The interns at the Canadian Centre for Bio-Ethical Reform (pictured right) share about some of the comments and insults they receive during their pro-life activism. One of the comments that concerned them the most was when even well-meaning people suggested they were too young to be speaking about abortion:

As the middle-aged people come up to me and inform me that I am far too young to be trying to influence society, I can’t help but think of them as young people. Young people who rose up and said that they wanted sex without consequence. They wanted drugs, they loved rock and roll. I can’t help but think of the young people who set out to change the world, and did just that. And now it’s our turn. As the lot often falls on future generations, our generation has been called upon to rise up, to fight, and to correct the mistakes of the last one.

After all, what is more natural than young people talking to other young people about the killing of the youngest people?

I find it interesting how this age group is deemed to young to speak against abortion, but is apparently not too young to have abortions (and without parental consent, of course).

Pro-life vid of day: Viewers react to images of abortion victims

vidreactionby Kelli

Saynsumthn’s Blog recently featured a post showing the varied reactions to one of Created Equal’s JumboTron campaigns, noting that while the pro-life movement continues to debate whether or not to show images of abortion victims in public venues, the pro-choice movement admits the images are succeeding in changing minds about abortion:

A group put together by Chasing New Jersey, a news broadcast which airs on Fox29 Philly, reveals the impact that showing graphic abortion images has on those never exposed to the truth of what killing babies in the womb looks like.

In the film, young people watch a video of an abortion shown publicly on a jumbotron by the pro-life group, Created Equal, recently in Philadelphia at the Liberty Bell Mall….

The over-all effect of what Created Equal did by showing these abortion images can be summarized by this viewer who said, “Regardless of how you feel on the issue, if their goal was to get you to invoke these emotions, then these visual images for the word abortion – then they did a great job. I’m never going to forget that for the rest of my life.”

Actress Countess Vaughn opens up about her abortion

by Carder

Premiere Party For TV One's "Hollywood Divas" - ArrivalsI had an unwanted pregnancy. I had just started my TV show, I knew that in black Hollywood a girl having a baby, they’d get rid of you. I had to do something about it. I had to make a decision to get rid of a child for my career…

I knew from the jump if I let any of them know what was going on, they would have cancelled my show.

Pro-life video of the day: Online abortion class

by Hans Johnson

The overwhelmingly pro-choice media has been trumpeting what has been called “the first internet abortion class” now being offered by the University of California, San Francisco.  While health professionals can earn credits for their continuing education, Professor Jody Steinauer (seen here introducing the course)  says:

I think that if we can inspire even a small portion of the people who take the course to take steps in their communities to increase access to safe abortion and decrease stigma about abortion, then we have been totally successful.

Fox News Channel correspondent Adam Housely is several weeks into the course, as he told Bill O’Reilly, who said because the university is taxpayer-funded, this is “in your face to all Californians who believe that abortion may be morally wrong.”

College students begin to embrace idea of killing born children

what-makes-us-humanby Kelli

Kristina Garza, spokeswoman for Survivors of the Abortion Holocaust, a pro-life organization that often sets up anti-abortion displays on campuses along the West Coast, said her group also frequently encounters college students who accept infanticide.

“For those who are firmly for abortion, because they understand it kills a human being, it’s very easy for them to accept killing a human being after birth,” Garza said. “There is this notion that is common on campus, that it’s OK to kill babies because somehow we don’t become human until we are self aware.”

“A common number that is going around is 4 years old,” she adds.

As for the trend, Garza said there’s an explanation for it. For one, the arguments put forth by Peter Singer and other philosophers who support infanticide are given as reading assignments to college students.

Singer wrote in 1979 that “human babies are not born self-aware, or capable of grasping that they exist over time. They are not persons … [therefore] the life of a newborn is of less value than the life of a pig, a dog, or a chimpanzee.”

Pro-life vid of day: Stand for religious freedom

istandsunday

by Hans Johnson

The Houston Equal Rights Ordinance (HERO) was passed by the city council in June, which would allow men and women to use any gender of public restroom with which they most identify. (Men could use women’s restrooms and vice versa.) It sparked a petition by opponents, who gathered over 50,000 signatures to force a referendum  – three times what was required.  But the petition was rejected, citing “irregularities”.

After a lawsuit was filed in August, the city targeted five area pastors (who were NOT involved in the suit) and demanded “all speeches, presentations, or sermons related to HERO, the Petition, Mayor Annise Parker, homosexuality, or gender identity prepared by, delivered by, revised by, or approved by you or in your possession.”

Said Christiana Holcomb, an attorney with the Alliance Defending Freedom, which is representing the pastors:

The city’s subpoena of sermons and other pastoral communications is both needless and unprecedented. The city council and its attorneys are engaging in an inquisition designed to stifle any critique of its actions. Political and social commentary is not a crime; it is protected by the First Amendment.

This Sunday, November 2, Family Research Council is hosting I Stand Sunday at Grace Community Church in Houston, to be broadcast over the internet.  Among the speakers will be the five pastors, former Governor Mike Huckabee, and Fox News’ Todd Starnes, whose reporting brought much attention to the case.

Jon Stewart: Planned Parenthood could do “a food truck thing”

Stewart and Davisby Carder

Can Austin do sort of a Planned Parenthood food truck thing, where everybody… get a taco and a Pap smear? I don’t know how they can do it, but they can do something!

Pro-life blog buzz 10-28-14

pro-lifeby Susie Allen, host of the blog, Pro-Life in TN, and Kelli

  • At ProLife365, Kevin Kukla responds to those who complain pro-lifers are “single issue voters,” as if that’s somehow a bad thing when it comes to the most basic human right. He points to an illustration from Fr. Frank Pavone of Priests for Life:

If a candidate running for office claimed he was pro-terrorism, could he still gain your vote? No, you say?

Would you bother to ask him his stance on gun control or on immigration? Still no, you say? Is it because his support of terrorism eliminates him from your consideration? Great, it should….

But why is it so few faithful Catholics and Christians draw such a hard line on so-called “pro-choice” candidates? After all, they support terrorism of the womb: the slaughter of innocent babies.

Over 3,500 babies die a day in the USA to abortion. How could anyone who supports this crime against humanity be fit to serve public office?

KansasGovernorRace

  • Kansans for Life wonders why the debate between pro-life incumbent Governor Sam Brownback (R) and his challenger Rep. Paul Davis (D) omitted the issue of abortion. The contrast between the two couldn’t be more stark. Davis was tutored under Kathleen Sebelius (a supporter of the late, late-term abortionist George Tiller) and has a stridently pro abortion record, voting “80 times against pro life bills.” Kansas voters have a right to know.
  • At Live Action, Sarah Terzo uses information from a pamphlet, which includes testimonials from former abortion clinic workers, to point out how the abortion industry’s main thrust is to make sure women follow through on their abortions once the process has begun. One worker’s comment:

When a girl called to make her appointment, we’d work her in as soon as possible. If she called on Tuesday, we’d have her in no later than Friday. We wanted to avoid a long waiting period where she’d have time to think about it.

  • Real Choice says it’s foolish to trust that abortion clinics violating basic health standards will self-correct their subpar practices. Dayton Women’s Health Services is one such clinic – also caught operating without a license – where a patient died after an abortion. The facility was cited for several health violations just a year prior to the patient’s death.
  • Pro-Life in TN updates on the efforts to pass Tennessee’s Amendment 1, which would again make the state constitution neutral on the issue of abortion. This would allow elected legislators the right to regulate legal abortion. Currently, state lawmakers have no ability to require abortion facilities meet the standards of other same-day surgery centers. With no way to require that facilities meet certain standards, and no informed consent or waiting periods, a dangerous “let the buyer beware” situation exists.
