Lunch Break: Oh No-ah!
To give us a break from the daily grind…
Two perspectives on an upcoming job-“creation” project to boost Kentucky’s economy – The Noah’s Ark project. Complete with ark, animals, Tower of Babel – all near the Creation Museum already in place. The project, based on Genesis 6 and already approved by the Kentucky Governor, is slated for completion in 2014 and will provide about 900 jobs.
Meanwhile, Rachel Maddow hammers the project altogether…
Email LauraLoo with your Lunch Break suggestions.

Oooooh!! Vacation Destination!
Are you sure it was a good idea for Noah to take two termites onto the ark ?
Rachel, here’s an idea — if you don’t like it, don’t go!
” Are you sure it was a good idea for Noah to take two termites onto the ark ?”
LOL!
Alright, sense of humor from Robert… like it…
Re: the first video, I have a lot of atheist friends at SecularProLife.org, and I can assure you that they do not lie awake at night wondering how all the animals fit on the ark.
Doesn’t Rachel have anything better to do than rant about a theme park?? Oh, no. Wait. She doesn’t. FYI, I heard recently that there’s a new theme park in Orlando called “The Holy Land Experience”. I’m not sure if it is open yet; it sounds pretty interesting.
~~~
Robert Berger,
Good one, Robert!
It’s a Theme park, Rachel. It’s not supposed to “convince” people of anything.
At the very least, it’s a tourist destination to help the economy of Kentucky.
If you don’t like it…don’t go. It’s a personal “choice”
Sheesh!
Robert – LOL – very funny!
Janet – a friend just returned from Florida and sure enough she went to the Holy Land Experience. She was rather astonished because it’s like an immersive play where Christ comes right by you on the road to Calvary. They attempt to make it very realistic, so she said it was profound and very moving. From what I gather from the website it might be interesting, but it has sort of a Vegas-like feel that I’m not too crazy about. Rather go on a missions trip and work with the Lord directly.
Chris,
That’s good to know. I haven’t been back to Orlando since Disney World opened in the 1970’s, (haven’t even seen Epcot which seems like it would be “Las Vegas-ish) and I assume it’s probably similar to that. Maybe I’ll go someday if I can’t get to the real Holy Land. I like the idea of going to KY to The Noah’s Ark project as a short summer driving trip!
Would Maddow be less upset if any of the animal couples on the ark were same-sex?
Cranky –
LOL! Then you’re talking instant-extinction. Depends on how much of an animal-lover she is. :)
Cranky, Zing! haha!
If anyone watched goofy Bill Maher make a dolt of himself in Religulous, you got to see a bit of The Holy Land Experience. The actor playing Jesus really gave a good response to Maher, and he was polite and nice the whole time.
But if I may say, the real Holy Land is worth a visit! I went and it was not as dangerous as people think. Oh, there’s crazy drivers and some pickpockets, but I felt safe being there.
If creationists want to construct a theme park based on a myth (Even the Vatican discredits a literal interpretation of Genesis) that’s fine. The only problem is when taxpayer dollars are involved. You don’t want taxpayer dollars paying for abortion. I don’t want taxpayer dollars paying for something that, scientifically speaking, is totally bogus. LOL, there should be no question as to why the USA ranks lower than the Chinese (and a bunch of other countries) in science. But cave men and dinosaurs – yabbadabbado!!!!
“Even the Vatican discredits a literal interpretation of Genesis”
As far as I know, the Catholic Church does not take a position one way or another on any scientific claims (or lack thereof) made in the Bible. Certainly many theologians and even the Pope when speaking in public audiences has made statements which support one view or another, but as a teaching institution teh Catholic Church has never taught that one must hold (or not hold) a certain position regarding scientific biblical interpretations. It is true that the Church has said that holding to certain aspects teh BIOLOGICAL theory of evolution do not go against truths that the Church proposes (I think I can find where she teaches this if requested… I think Humanae Generis, Pius XII… 19…50?… I suppose I could quickly google it rather than typing how I’m talking to myslef… but there it is (or isn’t)) but certainly no Catholic is required to hold to it or any theory of human origins under pain of sin.
DD,
I don’t agree with your assessment that there is no truth to the Creation story. That said, it’s funny you should mention dinosaurs. What about Barney the purple guy on PBS, the Public Broadcasting Service, and other characters like Arthur the talking aardvark? Are they responsible for the dumbing down of America? Shouldn’t the liberals be a bit more careful in picking their battles?
Rachel Madcow, please dispense with your smarminess. Would you be this sarcastic about an entertainment area catering to Muslims? Fat chance.
Good grief we have theme parks based on all kinds of, well, themes. This isn’t a museum, it a place of entertainment. It does not have to be word for word from the Bible. One does not anymore have to believe in the Bible to enjoy this park than one must believe in talking animals and fairies to enjoy Disneyland.
DD- I understand this park is getting a tax credit and not being subsidized by tax payers, much like any business does. Please correct me if I’m wrong. Obviously this park will have employees and they will have to pay state and federal taxes, will they not? How about people visiting the park, will they pay a state tax? Sounds like this may greatly benefit the state treasury.
DD,
Sure there’s a reason American children rank lower, its called liberalism. Also, if you have such concerns about the education of American children you may question why Obama was determined to shut down a school charter program in Washington DC that had an excellent track record, over the strenuous objections of parents and students.
I’ll give you a hint. Teacher’s Unions
Oh and Ms. Madcow,
I thought you liberals were such bastions of tolerance. There is something in this country called religious tolerance and respect. While we may not share the religious beliefs of others we can nonetheless dispense with sarcasm and ridicule.
I doubt Ms. Maddow would have objected if not for the state supporting this religious park.
It is kinda funny, don’t you think? Dinosaurs on the ark? That’s a good one.
Hal,
The park is getting a tax break, the state is not supplying funds. Big difference. Also, a tourist attraction like this provides employment, not only at the park but for other businesses such as hotels and restaurants. Guess what tourist do? Bingo! They spend money and must also pay a state and federal tax. Guess what employed people do? Bingo! They pay state and federal tax as well as pay rent, mortgages, buy clothing and food, etc. Can we say employment opportunity, economic expansion and opportunity and increased revenue to the state treasury?
Unlike you Hal, I do not see fit to ridicule the religious convictions of others.
Another thing Hal, Ms.Madcow can make her point minus the smarminess, condescension, and ridicule, not to mention the intolerance which I thought was a totally foreign concept to you liberals.
Unlike you Hal, I do not see fit to ridicule the religious convictions of others.
Christianity is fair game.
Try it with Islam.
Oh, wait, that’s right… most people don’t find death threats too terribly humorous.
“Ms.Madcow can make her point minus the smarminess, condescension, and ridicule, not to mention the intolerance ”
The irony of this is hilarious.
I think it was just as bad that Noah had to take the male and female mosquitoes on board……He could have left those darn insects back on land!
He forgot the unicorns, though, as the Shel Silverstein poem goes, they just refused to get on board and that’s why today we don’t see the unicorn, but we see
Green alligators and long-necked geese
Some humpty-backed camels and some chimpanzees
Some cats and rats and elephants, but sure as you’re born, you won’t see any unicorns!
Oh, forgot to add…..
Epcot is a very neat park, Janet, and is NOT like Vegas. It means Experimental Prototype Community of Tomorrow. My favorite part is the World Showcase where you can visit several countries in just a few hours (offhand I can recall England, Norway, Mexico, France, Japan and China and Morrocco)
Hi Liz,
Well I’ll just have to go to Epcot sometime! I remember the song about the animals from my childhood! Very cute!
